Your recipes throughout Veganuary have been inspiring! Sometimes reduced veg and herbs go black and mushy if we don't use them quickly so I have learned that taking them out of the packaging and putting them into brown paper bags in the fridge makes them last much longer and reduces food waste. Last year I bought 200 brown paper bags on amazon and paid less than £5.00 and still have loads left. Love your creativity with food, some of your recipes have been tried and tested and have gone down a treat here. 😋

Love your content Maddie. At Tesco the special offers used to be available to everyone. The price was automatically cheaper at the till. Now with clubcard prices the special offers are only available when you use your clubcard. Very jealous of how cheap food is in the UK! I live in New Zealand and I was curious how much this shop would cost me here so I put everything into the grocer app and at Paknsave (our most budget supermarket) this shop would cost $121 NZD which is equivalent to £63.50. So pretty much double what you paid here! And that is with substituting the fresh lemons for a bottle of juice, and not including the cress because you can't get that at the supermarket here.

Just put the white bulbous root ends in a bit of water in a glass or other container thay will hold them upright and put them in a window. Mine are on the windowsill in my kitchen. I change the water daily. The green parts will regrow within days.

Our groceries are cheap, but overall wages in uk aren't high compared to other developed countries.
@KiraHelenRose
@KiraHelenRose Жыл бұрын
The UK minimum wage is about $4 higher than the US federal minimum wage. So I’m not sure why so many seem to think wages in the US are higher than in the UK. They are much lower. At least for average blue collar worker. Maybe higher level careers like doctors and lawyers and IT are higher. But the average American is making probably the around the same or even less than workers in the UK. Some states do have their own minimum wage that is higher than federal. But a lot of states don’t have their own and pay federal minimum ($7.25/hr).

Hey! I just wanted to 1) thank you, for providing such wonderful content (I’ve only discovered your channel recently!) and 2) ask a quick question in relation to your stance on weight loss / food. For context, I’ve just started my recovery from 6 years of severe anorexia; I’ve got an awful lot of weight to gain to get me to what is considered a minimum for health. As you can imagine, I’m quite sensitive to all things diet / weight loss right now, and find it really hard seeing this kind of content normalised and promoted. I’ve been so soothed by your relationship with food - it’s everything I aspire to have myself. However, on going back a bit, I found your wedding content, where you discuss losing weight for your wedding (and the dress as a by-product). Can I ask, as a personal safeguard, whether you are still actively trying to lose weight, and whether this was a clear goal for your health journey / wedding prep? Are you planning to actively avoid processed foods going forwards…? Again, please don’t feel obliged to answer - I’m aware this is such a sensitive topic. I suppose I’m hoping you could clarify your current perspective on food and weight - no judgment either way; it’s just something I ask to try and help limit my personal exposure to triggers! Thank you so much 🧡

I don't want to speak for Maddie, of course, but from what I gathered in her videos over the past 3 or 4 years is that she had issues with food and wanted a healthier relationship without orthorexia, so she did intuitive eating to heal her mental relationship with food but realised she wasn't eating enough protein and so had gained more weight than she felt happy with, so leading up to her wedding she was looking to increase her protein to prevent her overeating and her goal for the wedding was to be healthy and feel good about herself, not lose weight for the sake of losing weight or fitting social 'expectations'. Again, from my impression of her videos she rejects diet culture, and promotes finding a healthy balance in life not fearing foods and not being extreme. Wishing you so much luck on your journey going forward and congratulations on being where you are today !

@MadeleineOlivia Жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing the above you have really covered it so well! I am so sorry that you are going through what you are. It really isn’t easy. And it is incredibly admirable that you are checking in on this and setting boundaries. I really try my hardest to reject diet culture and am as sensitive as I can be in my videos. During the pandemic and afterwards I suffered a period of extremely low mental health including severe anxiety. It tore my world up! And it also resulted in overeating and drinking a lot of alcohol as coping mechanisms which made me gain a lot of weight. So pre-wedding I just wanted to get back to myself, taking care of my body and well-being and yes that did result in weight loss. I viewed it as an all around balanced approach to my body and my overall wellness. I did want to lose weight but in a way that was just returning to my old happy self, not over drinking, healing my relationship with emotional eating, and eating higher protein meals to stay satisfied (as sometimes I was finding myself very hungry because I would forget to eat, which lead to emotional and overeating eating!) I never actively avoid processed foods (I am having vegan burgers for dinner!), but I always want to remind myself of what’s good for my body and mind which is lots of plants and whole foods too! I eat both in my diet to stay healthy for my body and mind. I am not a fan of any “clean eating” nonsense. It’s all about balance for me and I hope you can see that in my videos. I do have a history of eating disorders and disordered eating so I might reference it or trip up on my words sometimes so this may be a reason therefore that you need to avoid my videos. I wish you all the best in your recovery! You have got this!

I get the reason for this, and she's given brilliant tips. Brilliant effort too. Not many people would do this, but I disagree on this: 1. Don't buy white pasta. It's really bad for you. It's cheaper because its full of refined carbs. Far more nutrition in wholegrain. 2. The comment, "I dont need that much," can be a false economy. It can be way, way cheaper to buy in bulk and especially beans and lentils. Found that put the hard way. 3. Buying reduced items is definitely the way to go, no point buying most of the shop of perishable plants that need to be used within 2 days max Spinach is the worst. 4. I don't believe this is a true reflection. What about breakfast options, lunch options, and dinner. So I'd like to see x2 people with x3 meals a day for x7 days week with the exact items purchased and nothing else added, and I mean sauces, cereals, milks, herbs and spices because this wasn't potentially factored in.

89p as regular price for an avocado???? In Germany you pay at least 1,50€ (not in sale) and up to 3,00€? Crazy :D

Echt? Kann ich mir irgendwie nicht vorstellen... sogar in Österreich gibt es billigere Avocados (ab € 0,79) und bei uns sind die Lebensmittel generell viel teurer, als bei euch in DE.

Watching from the US 👀👀👀 Those prices were wild to me. I know it will be slightly different with conversion but those prices WERE SO LOW !! I work for Walmart and even taking price per pound items in mind, I would probably still pay three times that amount for the same items 😭😭😭

@Madeleine Olivia I also live when you do these vlogs. I have become almost vegetarian.. if I get invited to dinner I do eat meat there, doesn't happen a lot though. I really wish lidl did tofu and kimchi. I got some porridge oats this month and frozen cherries from farm foods so I'm going to follow your recipe. Ty xx

Another great video. I love just going along shopping with you both. Really great on a budget, but I like the idea of you getting stuff from the vegan section that might be a little more indulgent or convenient and then reviewing them! 😁

Loved this! I have a video idea- organic vegan food on a budget? I eat completely organic but am also have a strict budget, so this would be really helpful. It may also inspire different types of recipes as there is sometimes quite a limited selection of organic food, and many things are not in stock. Would be interesting to see what sort of meals you could create! 😀

Hi biggest tip ever. When you go into Tescos and your on a budget. Go to the scales they have there. I grabbed a bag of banana's and weigh them and have a look how much they actually are. I found there was a 17p difference.
