This movies is something truly special. It has a really specific vibe and I think a lot of people don't really get it. Either you feel the beauty of it in your bones, wrapping you in an indescribably comforting embrace, or you just don't. It's like being at beach party and for a while, you walk a bit farther from the merriment for a little bit of peace and you're looking out over the sea towards the horizon, sun sinking and you zone out, feeling inner peace and connection to the universe as it's meant to be percieved...

I’ve never understood why this film is critically considered his worst, I think it’s his best
@kevinlakeman5043 Жыл бұрын
Cuz it kinda blows? 'All the stylized performances in stylized sets work to kill the film's emotional content. It's not that we don't like the characters; it's that Anderson won't let us get involved with them, a fatal flaw in something this strenuously whimsical.' ' Anderson and Baumbach have crafted a world like no other, asking viewers to just sit back and accept all of the weird, deadpan whimsy and esoteric lyricism surrounding them.' And Wilson's accent is godawful. Was he trying to sound like some southern gothic character from some old Tennessee Williams piece?
@elimitchell9716 Жыл бұрын
@@kevinlakeman5043arguably this one is no where near as stylized as Moonrise or Grand Budapest. So I don’t really understand that criticism? And plenty of great performances have terrible accents. That’s such a boring criticism of performances.
@tapeworm3673 Жыл бұрын
@@elimitchell9716 It’s because it doesn’t follow Wes Anderson specialty… it lacks the artistic attention that his films are usually riddled with… the film is great regardless if you ask me largely due to bill Murray’s appearance… anyways the film doesn’t have Wes Anderson’s cozy home feel there are imperfections in the world around them not just the characters themselves and just like @kevinlakeman5043 said, this takes away from emotional connection with the characters.

This is in my top 5 films of all time. I know it got panned by critics at the box office when came out (they were expecting another “Royal Tananbaums”), but I think time has proven this movie is one of Wes Anderson’s best films, if not the best. Bill Murray gives his best performance in years; Willem DaFoe is absolutely amazing. The rest of the cast is more than solid. The thematic colors in the film are beautiful, and the movies soundtrack is fantastic.
