In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by podcaster, writer, and speaker John Edwards to share what I think is the most incredible conversion story ever.
John breaks the record previously held by the wonderful Tsh Oxenreider as he speaks for a full hour unpacking his whirlwind conversion story: through a crippling drug addiction, successes and failures, ups and downs, and an incredible return to the Catholic Church through the grace of vulnerability and the sacraments John's story is absolutely breath-taking. I can promise you'll be on the edge of your seat throughout; and once you start, you won't be able to hit pause!
For more from John check out ‪@justaguyinthepew‬ and his website for links to book him to speak and for more information about the resources he's creating through his ministry: www.justaguyint...

Funny I listened to this conversation about a year ago and I wasn’t considering Catholicism at that time. God is now leading me to the Catholic Church after 10 years in the evangelical Protestant church. Amazing testimony God bless you 🙏🙏🙏

@carakerr4081, how are you? I hope you finally decided to “Come Home.” If not, COME ON OVER, FRIEND! What do you have to lose? Just come right in and when you’re in and you decide it was not what you expected, hey, you’re free to return to your old church. One thing to FOCUS on while you’re thinking about it some more. How do you reconcile with our Lord’s message in John 6? Remember, all His disciples left Him after that exhortation. And, they could not “bear” and “accept” it because they all knew Jesus meant what He said to EAT His Body and DRINK His Blood. And, when they all left He did NOT call them back and appease them by saying, “Come back. I meant it to be just a SYMBOL.” No He did not! Because God will NEVER force Himself on us! God bless you. friend❤️🙏❤️‍🔥🙏

I love this. I'm a 26yo but somehow I relate so much to his story on how the more you lie the further you are from God and it's always not wanting to be vulnerable that stops you from turning to our father. I went yesterday to confession for the first time in years only because I was tired of going around looking for happiness elsewhere other than him. Glad to have find this talk at the right time at this point in my life.

You had me on the edge of my seat, crying, sobbing. What an amazing testimony of God's love and mercy. My story is similar to yours in terms of the lying to keep up with a facade. Sometimes I still feel like I am a sum of all my horrible sins, I know it's the devil putting that in my mind. But God's mercy is way bigger than any sin. Thank you ❤️

It’s a truly vital point that is made - about men needing a space in which to be vulnerable. I work with men who have been pornography addicts and online sex offenders. A theme that comes up all the time is their keeping everything to themselves and never talking about woundedness. May God always bless your work.

John is creating a new dynamic for male only ministry. It is a great need of the times when men are losing their masculinity and with it the gift of being good if not great fathers and husbands to their families, the smallest unit of society. Bless also John’s beautiful faithful patient w❤fe who brought him to the Catholic faith and also became his rock at the lowest point of his double life she did not know about. The concept of Alcohol Anonymous has been proven through the ages because while we sin alone we can only have healing with people helping us get over it by just listening and not judging us. Then, the Holy Spirit can take over in bringing us back to the Loving Always Waiting Father through Jesus. Mother Mary will also intercede for us as well asSt. Joseph if we ask them to.

IF only these miracles would save ALL addicts, and in a perfect world there would be NO divorce nor broken families. Some people live a very long time living on their addictions and vices, a very long time they live doing this bad lifestyle. Unfortunately, there are too many of us who suffer from their hardened hearts and selfish choices. God bless you, your wife, and your sweet children. I have so much more to write, but I'm certain you get the point. Praise be Jesus Christ that your life was turned around.

“We’re not the sum of our sins, we are the sum of His love” ❤love that!! I think every human is the same in that we crave those things that become addictions. What we really crave is God. We just don’t know it. It’s such a difficult transition to wean off earthy addictions to trust 100% in God. When it happens it’s such a victory. Because we will never go back to the fake “high” So never be ashamed of your past, any one of you out there Because sometimes that’s what it takes before you finally find your true love in God. God uses everything in our lives as stepping stones that lead to the doorstep of His mercy

1:03:03 "God, the Father of mercies, through the death and the resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to Himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." So it's not just saying, "you are forgiven." In fact, it could possibly render it an invalid Sacrament of Reconciliation.

John, you are a source of help to all of humanity which daily fails in so many ways, ending up believing they are worth nothing. Yet God loves intensely every single person who has lived or will live. Your experience shows how truly wonderful is the mercy of God who forever calls each individual. What an amazing and inspiring story! You're blessed to have such loving parents, and a wonderful wife. This story proves again the story of God's love and mercy. I learned some years ago (after reading Imitation of Christ) never to judge a person for a misfortune or to give up on someone because of his sinful ways. To do these would be to question God's plan for the person. Instead, we should hope and pray for the person to receive God's love and mercy. And, of course, we should do the same for ourselves. Thank you, John, for your testimony, and now this 75-year-old from the Philippines has become one of your supporters in your mission (and this channel's, too) through prayer.

It's embarrassing.* *Church of Rome in history (current Roman religion) was just one of many local churches in history. Since which year this Church of Rome (or Latin Church or Western Church) became the Universal Church or Church Christ founded? WHich year was that? Please answer.* 1 2 3 *Why are you so illiterate about real Church history?8 you said Tsk Tsk lying again?Who said the Catholic Church in the period 0-1054AD is Roman? @alisterrebelo9013 *You are wrong once again. *Bible does not accept all traditions. Especially Roman pagan traditions where 95% of Roman pagan doctrines came from.* *1. Yes Roman Catholics love misquoting 2 Thes **2:15**. But 2 Thes **2:15** does not disprove Sola Scriptura. Sola Scriptura ACCEPTS all traditions of Jesus and Apostles, 2 Thes **2:15**; but REJECTS all traditions of men, Mat 15, Mat 23, Mark 7. 95% of Roman Catholic doctrines were from traditions of men. Not from traditions of Jesus or Apostles.* *- Acceptable Traditions (those of Jesus and Apostles, 2 Thes **2:15**)* and *- Unacceptable Traditions (traditions of men, Mat 15, Mat 23, Mark 7).* *2. It is interesting to note: that even authorities like Jesus, APostles and NT CHurch also appealed to Scriptures only for doctrines. We often see them citing from Scriptures/Written Word only for doctrines (180 plus times they did that just in NT alone). Not once did we see them citing traditions as support for any doctrines. NOT ONCE.* *3. Do you know 95% of Roman religion doctrines were from "traditions of men"? God/Jesus did not command Roman Catholics to practise all these. Mar 7:8, Col 2:8* *Bible describes "traditions of men" this way: Mar 7:8, Col 2:8* 1. Anything not from the commandment of God or Mosaic Law were called tradition of men. 2. Philosophies based on principles of the world and not according to Christ/God were called traditions of men. Mar 7:8 *For laying aside the commandment of God* , you hold the *tradition of men* -the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do." Col 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the *tradition of men* , according to the basic principles of the world, and *not according to Christ* *Many Roman Catholic traditions (doctrines) were not based on commandments of God/Jesus or Mosaic Law. And they were not according to God/Jesus. A lot were based on philosophies of the world too. So they should be discarded.* *Examples of that: Jesus did not command making of statues and bowing to them in a Church. These kind of traditions should be discarded. And many more.* you said Wrong. 2 Thessalonians says the word of God are traditions that are both written AND SPOKEN. 😂 That's why you never quote passages in the hopes that people won't check. 2 Thessalonians 2:15 KJV - 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

Why is that so? THey all took from Written Word. Not from any other source. @alisterrebelo9013 *Hilarious claims RC. Which part of what I said made your case stronger? 😆 Which part of what I said says anything about Apo 7 books being biblical?* *Of course NT was Scriptures. Bible says Apostles called one another letters “Scriptures”. You really lack knowledge. 😂 😂 😂 😂* you said as a tradition of men? 😂 The Bible comes as a tradition LONG after other doctrines such as Eucharist, water baptism, confession etc. You really need to study historical facts.

@alisterrebelo9013 *Laying of hands not wrong. But nowhere says Roman religion inherited the authority of Peter and Apostles through laying of hands. Where is your proof that it was so? Only self claims?* you said If you want you can be Orthodox and following their canon. But you won't because you reject the Authority that Jesus passed onto the Apostles which they passed onto others, who were instructed to pass it on further yet. Only a person with WEAK FAITH like you think the Holy Spirit failed to guide the Church. Paul gives Timothy the gift of God through laying of hands. Neither Paul nor Timothy ever saw Jesus bodily. So Timothy can pass this on as he is instructed to do, as well as the the SPOKEN traditions of Paul. 2 Timothy 1:6 KJV 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 2 Timothy 2:2 KJV And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

@alisterrebelo9013 *Too bad you are wrong once again. Apostle Paul was linking Old Testament to NT communion. Vs 16-17. He said "eat the same spiritual meat".* 1Co 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 1Co 10:17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. *You're not as good at exegesis as you think.* you said The context of 1 Corinthians 10-1-5 is Paul is talking about those under the law of Moses, not to the Christians who ate of the body and blood of the new covenant. You're not as good at exegesis as you think. 1 Corinthians 10:1-5 KJV - 1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

@alisterrebelo9013 *You are demonstrating lack of knowledge again. THose 3 were all local councils with its local canons. Not one was an Ecumenical Council with bishops of all churches and none of the 3 fixed a Universal Canon. It's embarrassing you know nothing ... 😂 😂 😂 😂* you said There are 3 Apostolic Canons - Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox established by Churches with direct connection to the Apostles. Where is your direct connection to the Apostles?

@alisterrebelo9013 *Hilarious claims. Roman canon was merely a local canon via a local council. Not a Universal Canon fixed by bishops of all churches in an Ecumenical Council. Roman pagan council had zero authority pretending to have fixed a Universal Canon for all churches.* you said of course you accept the councils. Otherwise show me how you arrived to the Canon, its a really simple question, for an extraordinary well studied person like yourself.

@janesawyer3495 *You are concocting tales out of your own man made narratives. Bible does not say all your mentioned ns. Doctrines come from what Scriptures DOES SAY. Not from your own man made narratives.* *Bible says Jesus was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. BUT ... Bible does not say that for Mary. So its not a doctrine at all. Stop adding Scriptures to concoct your own man made doctrines you Roman ct low wit.* you said She offered the sin offering out of humility and to avoid scandal and to fulfill all righteousness, (Mt. 3) just as her Divine Son was baptized in the Jordan by John. John’s baptism was for repentance and yet we both agree Jesus did not need to be baptized b/c He did not need to repent of any sin. And yet He submitted to baptism. And Mary offered the sin offering according to the Law. Both fulfilled all righteousness in humility.

Excellent video on John Edward’s testimony,I’ve seen it on Keith Nester’s video also. And there’s one thing I have to mention about we Catholic’s and that is do not underestimate the powers of evils because of our fallen human nature and our free will .For we Catholic’s have to realize that evils are not limited to our fallen human nature and our free will John’s testimony and countless other Catholics attest to what I’m saying,if any catholic is offended please do understand that it’s not my intention AT ALL.

@Kerry Topel *As usual R ctists love to take verses out of context. Jesus was so clear what He really meant. It is "he who believes in Jesus who has eternal life".* *"eat of Jesus = believe in Jesus"* Joh 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day." Joh 6:47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. you said What is wrong with you Protestants? You’ve thrown out so much of what the Scriptures say: “Unless you eat of my flesh and drink of my blood you do not have life in you…” “this IS my body… this IS my blood-the blood of the new and everlasting covenant which will be poured out for you

message to my protestant brothers (please read and reread John Chapter 6)--> at JOHN 6:53 (i.e. communion) is either a symbol or it is literally Jesus Flesh and Blood...at John 6:30 his disciples requested a sign --> (be attentive to how Jesus responded) 6:30They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 6:31Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 6:32Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 6:33For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 6:34Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 6:35And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 6:36But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. now... when his disciples requested a sign at John6:30 they were asking for a miracle (what doust thou work?) they were asking him to work a miracle a symbol is not a miracle please research what the early church believed about the Lord's Supper....this belief is the essence of Catholic faith I left protestantism because I couldn't find a protestant church that did it literally...I didn't want to go back to the Catholic church....scripture forced me to (KJV scripture)

The evil wants us to be stuck in our sins. He doesn’t want us to go to confession. We need to let go of our pride. Confession teaches us to humble ourselves unto God. 🙏🏼❤️ The evil one is really attacking the sanctity of family. Prayers for the patriarch of the family. Strengthen their faith so they can protect their families. 🙏🏼❤️
