That Olds is gorgeous, make a great companion to the Caddy

My uncle was a Corvette technician in Pittsburgh. One of my earliest childhood memories was him pulling up in the driveway in a ‘77 Vette (black and silver) while on a test drive. The year was 1981 and I just got home from preschool. He asked if I wanted to ride along and I eagerly hopped in, filled by a nice cruise around town.

I always had a soft spot for those old Oldsmobiles. The 1953 looks like a pretty solid car and would be a fun cruiser with Ike Turner's original Rocket 88 song blaring from the radio.

I like that white '73 C3. The red C4 is an iconic Vette from my childhood. Oddly enough, I'm a Ford/Mopar guy, but I've always loved the older Vettes especially the C2s and early C3s. Our uncle had a '67 C2 coupe with a 327. It was a a/c, 4 speed car that was Marlboro Maroon.

I'd love to see the Mercury running and driving first, then the Oldsmobile Rocket 88. We used to have an Oldsmobile Rocket 88 sitting at a local service station that had been sitting there since the 70's at least, but when they paved over the parking lot there, they moved it. I don't know where they put it, but the rollback they were using to move it still isn't back yet, so at least that's a good sign. Also, you have some gorgeous babies (chickens). :D Take good care of them, I always love to see them in your videos!

The '79 in the garage, and of course the white '73. Being a Corvette aficionado, really looking forward to your future video projects Ben. Still love the '56 Caddy, and the '59 Mercury isn't far behind. You should do a video of all the cars you have on the wall in your office, as the stories behind the cars would be really cool content for your channel.
@OldCarAlley6 жыл бұрын
Ben, Don't forget the Mercury needs control arm bushings... saw them in a past video. There is nothing left of them. There not that hard to replace. The car will be all over the road, if you try to drive it with the bad ones. I frame off restored a 69 Chevy Custom 10 pick up.... so I will enjoy seeing you work on the truck. I had "one" Oldsmobile. It was nothing but problems... major lemon, so I am not crazy about Oldsmobile's... but will still enjoy seeing you work on yours. Trees looked awesome all covered in ice. We got a snow storm this weekend, that put down a fresh foot of snow. I am one of those crazy people that enjoys the seasons, and a good snow storm. Howard

What year was your olds?
@OldCarAlley6 жыл бұрын
It was a newer car, 1989.... not a "cool old one" like yours. I bought it when it was a salesman's demo. The first week I owned it, it needed $500 worth or repairs... GM stated it was a "rubber non warrantied part" that caused the problem.... a seal. From that day on, all I had was trouble with the car, and GM did everything they could to get out of repairing it under warranty. Everything on the car was replaced at least once, sometimes twice. The AC compressor was replaced twice in one week! Steering rack replaced three times. Trans rebuilt twice. The usually good 3.1 V-6 kept developing oil leaks. Brakes twice a year... and on and on. I sued GM under the lemon law, what a pain that was... it took years and I had to store the car in a secure location that was not cheap. I made GM repay the storage cost too, because they dragged the case on for years. I have never bought a newer GM car since, seeing GM did everything they could to make sure they could get out of warranting stuff on it. GM left a foul taste in my mouth because of that car! Since I have bought several Ford's, having no trouble with them at all, running three of them well over 200,000 miles.... GM made me a Ford man! I am looking forward to you working on your classic Old's. I do like the older GM cars... pre 1980's.

What year is the Mercury Ben? Back in the late 80's and early 90's, my Papaw had a 62 two door Mercury with a 292 as a daily driver. I personally am a Chevrolet guy now, but my Papaw was one of those old school die hard Ford guys and wouldnt drive anything else. Lol. I have great childhood memories of riding in the back of it. The back seat was so huge that i could lay completely down without having to curl up, and take a nap on trips. I remember it had a sky blue interior and i still can remember the smell of it. It was a white 2 door, but that one you have reminded me of it. Its a very similar body style it. Ive heard 292's werent that great of an engine, but i still remember the exhaust rumble going down the road and how good it sounded.
