I've been busy making put holders, also, for Christmas gifts. While I was at JoAnn's, a few of the Employees that also sew, informed me that many other sewists also use a regular piece of cotton quilt batting on both sides of the heat reflective piece when making the pot holders. It makes them a little thicker, makes them more durable. So, I use a piece of the reflective potholder that already has batting somewhat attached to both sides of it. I then use a thin piece of batting on each side of that. Then finish with the 2 layers of fabric in the outside. This is how I make my Potholders!!!

Instead of the "X" to hold the layers together, this is when we get to "Play" by freely stitching a random design or follow the stripes or pattern on the fabric. This is especially fun for children. This allows creativity to blossom.

That's a good idea! I'm going to be making some matching potholders for family with a coffee cup-print fabric, and I have a darning foot that I've been wanting to use more often.

Just made a couple of these and wow! It doesn't get much simpler than this! The only thing I will do differently next time is to use more pins when sewing the backing onto my sandwich. It shifted a bit making it harder to fold the binding over evenly.Thanks for the great video! Your videos are the easiest for me to follow and I appreciate how you explain things in a way I understand!

Thank you! Just want I needed to complete my holiday gifts! I increased by backing to 12x12 to getting a larger border and mitered the corners then tacked the corners down with a few stitches. Also I only wanted one seam on the border so I crossed hatched, like you suggested. It looks so much cleaner! I really enjoy your fast and concise videos. Happy Holidays!

I just finished my trial run with walking foot. Not recommended. Going around the corners got hung up. Broke a needle and walking foot came apart. Got everything back together, no harm done. Next one I will attach each side to the insol material, then do the binding part. Also, turned the holder to up position and tacked that down. You are a whiz. I appreciate your quick delivery of instructions.

Thank you - looks easy enough - when working with so many layers did you switch to a denim needle or a different special size?
@TheCraftyGemini
@TheCraftyGemini Жыл бұрын
I used an 80/12 universal needle but it also depends on your sewing machine. If it struggles with bulk going up in needle size and to a denim or topstitch needle can help.

Hello Would you please do a video. I, get very confused which way to cut the fabric, is it the length when the girl cuts the fabric (roll of the fabric), some say the width. A Pillowcase may be a good example. Thank you

I don't put a binding on my potholders . I sew two squares together, right sides facing each other. I use Insulbright which is a heat resistant utility fabric I buy at JoAnn fabrics.. Also, two squares of low loft quilt binding, one on each side of the Insulbright (sp). To quilt it, I do a zigzag stitch from opposite corners .

how come JUKI did not give you a walking foot?

Because they don’t sponsor my videos. I bought this machine and it doesn’t come with a walking foot. I haven’t bought one for it because I have several other machines that do have a walking foot. I just happened to be using this little machine for the video. 🤷🏽‍♀️
