All my ENC coocons have hatched. I have various sizes. They like the carboard and giving small feedings. My grandson said they are his wormies. LOL. Thank you Emily you are my inspiration. 😃

Hey Emily. I had a major outbreak of fungus gnats/fruit flies and I bought beneficial nematodes and sticky fly strips to deal with them. I also used a small plastic butter tub with vinegar and a few drops of dish detergent on the newspaper cover of each bin. Presto! In a week or two there were very few of the flies left.

Funny story, I have an upstairs office at work so that is where I put a green bin. I have noticed downstairs office people carrying banana peels going upstairs to meetings to put them in the green bin.... lol pretty soon they will all be worm nerds.

I've been using about 4" of dry shredded paper on top of my top bin (worm factory) to help control fruit flies. It seems to be doing a great job.

Oh I completely agree. Bedding is 99% of my problem. I am lazy and don't shred enough and then regret not covering things up better. A glutton for punishment...

I have noticed in this and other videos of yours that some of the bedding is shredded cardboard; do you run that through your paper shredder or do you shred it another way? If that banana has started to ferment the worms should get a pretty good buzz. Great video.

Genic Decay I do run it through my shredder. I use the Amazon Basics (it’s listed in the description). I hope they like it. Hoping it will coax the last few cocoons to hatch and for these guys to get to work!

I have found that bread heats the bin up. I put 6 slices of bread in 2 of my bins after about 4 days I turn the castings and I could feel the heat through my gloves. I didn't think about it heating up that much. That's the only thing that I have found that heats up my worm bin.

Have you thought about Adding some Azomite rock dust to your mix really good for plants on the other end (castings)& for the worms too!
@TheCrazyWormLady5 жыл бұрын
Maybe one of these days. Using what I have in bulk already sitting around. I hear amazing things about azomite and dolomite.
