I’m so happy and excited for your family! When I was 12, I watched our house being built. Every Sunday after church, we would drive to our house site to see what had happened the past week. It was a magical experience that I will always remember. At 93, my father still lives in that house. 🥰

This sounds a lot like my childhood experience. My parents bought a lot and built a house (which my father did a lot of the work on) when I was in 4th grade. We would go out every week to see the progress. We moved in in 1968. My mother turned 90 this year and still lives in that house. My father, sadly passed away in 2020- he would have been 92 this year. Lots of love and laughter in those walls!

What a wonderful property. I love how Claire picks out your family’s Christmas tree, June is standing in the sink, mom narrating the house plan with her device and shrinking to go downstairs, and Claire’s smile and face when her dad says he is going to chase away her boyfriends after they’ve made all that effort finding stones to throw at her windows, funny. If you offset the house forward towards the road it would allow for more space in the back for further development, ie garden, fruit trees, soccer field😊 having a larger back yard has a ton of benefits in the future. Everything looks awesome though.

That was our big debate! There is a slight slope on the front of the property and we wanted our backyard to be flat, so that's why we decided to place it back further. It does limit the size of the backyard but it should still be great :)

My brother loved going to framed houses and looking around. He had lots of friends with nice, modern houses, so he was really good at figuring out the layout from the framing. He has a really nice house now!

Seeing the kids so so excited to be in what's going to be their house and all of them using their own imaginations on how it's going to look like it makes it so real! Being here since day 1, since Claire was on the Ellen show the first time and seeing their journey, it feels as though I'm growing up with them too and I get to experience this too, even if it's from far away. We built on 10 acres back in 1996. We were zoned 5 acres...put ours smack dab in the middle too. That way hubby couldn't divide the property, lol! Yes we still live in our dream home that we raised our 5 kids in! Have fun and remember what you obsess over right now you will not even notice when living your life inside. So happy for you! Hope the building process goes well. Just one thing, the horizontal railings on the stairs are notorious for children having accidents as they are irresistible to climb on. Love how excited you all are!

Some years back, horizontal railings were banned for that very reason. I don’t know when or why it changed, but I agree that they’re really hazardous for kids. I hope you guys will find a safer alternative!

Yes! Not a fan of horizontal railing. The interior is just a quick mockup, not any of our finishes we’ve chosen.

It's beautiful how excitingfor yoù both and the kids, I would consider picture windows instead of window panes. Beautiful views easy to clean. I can't wait to see your journey. We built our house and just finished, it's in Florida. ❤

It is gorgeous!! Our home, which is quite famous in its architecture, (Clif May was the architect, and our home in Columbus Ohio was the first Clif May home in the mid-west. My dad was the general contractor so he made sure our home was perfect!) Two of the bedrooms had built-in desks with drawers, and eye-level recessed lighting. The closets were very big with built in drawers, so no closets needed. Each bedroom had high window, and the 4th wall had floor to ceiling cabinets and bookshelves. I loved that house so much.

This is so reminiscent of when my family did the same thing (I was the youngest about Carson’s age). Down to the feeding neighbouring horses over the fence and the long untamed quack grass. Only difference is that we didn’t quite have the same kind of funds and so when our building process got behind schedule for three years, we were a family of six living in the massive, unfinished one room basement. Our dream felt very far away at that point but it was so wonderful to see our dream house rise up around us. It was an adventure our family will never forget, and I’m sure this house will be just as meaningful for your family.

I don’t know when I started watching you, but it’s been a couple years, I think. I don’t say much usually. I never would’ve thought about the size & flatness of the backyard. Good thing you guys did. For you guys, the house is perfect and that’s what’s important. I could never build such a symmetrical design with such a flat front. I loved what I thought I could see of Ashley’s drawn design. Multiple gables in a more random pattern. The back of the house? Now that is gorgeous! So, it sounds like you’ll have a full basement too? You can build an actual sound studio for recording. So, awesome! What was upstairs? You didn’t say. Will Carson & Claire finally have their own rooms? You’ll have one huge front lawn. Definitely a riding mower for Dave, or landscape company in your future. It’s so exciting! Thank you for bringing us on your journey!! I’m from a bit south & a little more west in Oregon! Towards the beach on the other side of Mt Hood on a big farm. Your property looks a lot like here. Just a little less densely forested. It’s wetter on this side of the Cascades. More trees. I love Spokane though. I also love how close you are to Cougar Gold Cheese!! Ah-maze-ing!!! What a wonderful place to raise a family!! All the extended family too! So awesome for you, Ashley!! I just love your family so much & hope you plan to add even more Crosby’s to the world!! Your children are so awesome. Such a reflection of their awesome parents!! Thank you!
