Ok, so here’s an improvement suggestion for Wynola. I have one of the 5- tier cages, and really love it, but there’s an issue with droppings falling out on the sides and back between the cage bottoms and poop trays where there isn’t any barrier. It would be great if you could have additional sheet metal to cover those gaps.

I purchased the 5 tier from Winola Ranch in July of 2020. I like the egg-roll out feature, I like the large feed troughs. I like that the quail can't escape (unless you forget to latch the door shut). Negatives: (1) My unit came with little water cups (they don't sell those big water troughs in the video on their website) - those water cups leaked from the beginning. They would overflow into the poop trays. Poop + water = giant, disgusting mess. I stopped using the water cups and now use glass containers in each pen and re-fill 1-2 times/day. (2) I'm also not a fan of the trays - they fill with poop quickly and are very heavy to move. This week, my son and I are disassembling the cages and moving them into a straight line - so basically no longer 'tiered', so that the poop will fall directly on the ground where it will be much easier to rake/shovel out once a week. (3) While I *do* like the large feed troughs, so do rats and mice. The unit I purchased did not come with the covers shown in the video, but after watching the video, I found them for $11 each on the site - not sold on them yet, I think the mice/rats will just go in through the open ends. Would I buy these again? Probably not - I and my sons are handy enough that if I continue to raise quail and want to expand, we will build our own units and make some improvements to this design. After raising quail for 9 months, including 6 incubator hatches, I find the live adults very disagreeable and ill-tempered. I don't enjoy them after the first week of fuzzy cuteness. The chicks constantly invent ways to kill themselves, and the adults peck you if you put a hand in the cage (which I do several times a day to replace their water). They are delicious though, and fairly easy to process. But then again, so are chickens, ducks and rabbits - all of which I have and which have much more personality. Then again, due to how much I dislike the quail, they are the only animal I can dispatch myself with absolutely no qualms at all. That is probably their biggest pro.

I can definitely see some of your points . My quail don’t peck at me ... they are pretty docile but every line has different temperaments .

Thanks Syd and Mike for the info and tips. We recently started a homestead and my wife, who is a Chinese American, loves quail eggs but can’t buy them locally. Your videos on how to start raising quail are great! I especially like your use and promotion of American made products.
