TinCup 10 with MGP is my favorite off the top of my head. Higher price point and not as easy to find, so doesn't perfectly compare to your list. Thanks for the notes.

My Dad drank Evan Williams Black Label day in and day out in his old fashions. If you buy it by the handle it's about the same price as water. I always pony up the couple of extra bucks for the bottled in bond white label.

Hah! In my area I've been getting the EW Black 1.75L since 2010 for $14-18. The BiB is always $10-12 more, but have started getting that instead.. Been getting the EW eggnog off season for $2.99 & $5.99 1.75L.

I know you had to draw the line somewhere, but the "world" opens up at 90 proof (as opposed to 89 pf limit). This is very common to other lists: 1. Tin Cup 10 yr 2. Wild Turkey 3. Very Old Barton 4. Evan Williams 5. Gentleman Jack

I see a few nods for Tin Cup 10yr or Michter's Sour (not technically a bourbon). I would agree. I also kind of like Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch. I know this was a bourbon list, but Michter's hits again with some other nice low proof options in both the Rye and American Whiskey. Funny thing is I prefer both the Sour Mash and American Whiskey over their Bourbon. One other bourbon I can think of is Evan William's Single Barrel. Sadly this is now a Kentucky only release so I can no longer get it. This used to be my go to low proofer.

Old Forester 86, Wild Turkey Longbranch, and Evan Williams Single Barrel are my top three low proof with any of the three taking the lead on a given day. Unfortunately EW SIB is only available in KY now. Gotta go back home to get a bottle.

Good stuff Fred. Your right about the 90 proof point. It really opens up the field. Just out of curiosity, would you go for the EW 1783 over any of these? I find it to be a great entry level, affordable bourbon and it's also found everywhere. ( I always got a few bottles in the closet).

Yes, I agree. Evan Williams Black label at 86 proof is one of the best if not the best value for low proof whiskey, especially if you can get it under 15 dollars. I've seen it under ten bucks on occasion, so, if you really don't or can't spend more than twenty bucks, Evan Williams is the way to go if you want lower proof. If you want more proof, the Evan Williams bottled in bond is usually in the 14 to 18 dollar range.

Totally agree on Evan Williams. Back before I could spend a lot or had the variety we do today, I used to call EW "the poor mans Makers". Have also loved Longbranch from day 1. Oddly, I figured the mesquite would give it a JD-type profile, but I was wrong....the mesquite just does something that I like....I love the smokiness of the vanilla and fruit.

Evan Williams black label is it. I can still enjoy it, a great guest sipper, it was my beloved beginner bourbon.. Have to have it on hand. And the BiB is such a logical next step for guests and beginners. There are many good low proof bourbon out there but Evan Williams OWNS it.

I have to add Wild Turkey 81 proof. Sure, I'd pick the 101 every time if I could, but I think their budget bottle can go toe-to-toe with Evan Williams black label. Also props to the folks mentioning Tincup 10 yr. I also like Michter's a lot, but technically speaking, they don't offer any bourbon under 90 proof.

Evan Williams Black Label is the bourbon that got me into bourbons. Haven't had it in awhile because I'll usually grab the white label before I'll grab the old 86... maybe I should dust off the bottle that's in my collection. Jim Beam Black and Jim Beam Double Oaked at 86 proof are Good. Old Forester 86 proof is definitely a great value. I definitely agree with the Four Roses 80 proof. It is one of my favorite mixers. I was surprised how few Bourbons I have that are under 90 proof. My personal favorite proof point is from 100 to 107.

I agree as much as I like OF86 I think Evan Williams Black is my favorite, even against stuff up to 100. The only addition I'd squeeze into the list is Very Old Barton 86. Love the channel!
