Love from Lewis County Kentucky! Derek's my favorite musician from his playing to his attitude. I cherish every nugget of his lessons I can find. Great interview, I enjoyed the podcast you did too!

Fred do you know where Michter's sourced this bourbon from?
@FredMinnick11 сағат бұрын
All them details have been in my book-Bourbon Curious-since 2015. They originally sourced from a few, but then contract distilled at Brown-Forman with their specs. They been distilling their own juice since 2013-14ish. Hope that helps! But be sure to get that book for more industry secrets hehe

Had some APW- I was so amazed and pleased that a musician I appreciate appreciated putting out such a great product.

So cool! Derek is so true. Had the opportunity to have some APW and it is fantastic. Such a relief to see a true enthusiast come out with a really good bourbon, one that you can look forward to, without compromise.

Every boom has its bust. It's inherent to it being a boom and how capitalism works. Low interest rates from 2008-2024 meant so much speculation both in companies and in the barrel market.

For high proof at a value price EW BiB invites comparison, but is lacking, even as a mixer. I get a certain sour note that often drives me to other offerings. My 2 cents.

Agreed 100%, hit the nail on the head with “lumber yard” it’s not great. It’s disappointing. I also think oak is off-putting.

I just tried the 8 year old bourbon finished in the 3 chamber rye. Really good stuff. As it gets older this distillery is gonna be one of the best in the world.

Fred, next time you need to break a bottle, wrap it in a dinner napkin or towel, then crack it.
@drgallup5 күн бұрын
That bottle breaking was kind of weak Fred. LOL Had a Michter's mega tasting after Christmas. Warmed up with the toasted barrel finished barrel strength rye and toasted barrel finished bourbon. Then we had two 10 year old ryes from '20 and '23. Next up were four 20 year bourbons from '19, '21, '22 & '24. The piece de resistance was a 25 year bourbon 2020. There was also a barrel strength Michter's rye, 2024 Bomberger's and Shenk's in there somewhere.

In my defense… nah. That was weak. Lol

How did anyone NOT see this atypical Bubble Bursting scenario coming?! Wait for the same in the beer industry. EVERY Hipster and their cousin with a little money has either opened a micro-brewery or a whiskey or gin distillery since the Hipster fad started 20 years ago and now I have 3 breweries in just my small Massachusetts town, along with 6 recreational weed dispenseries with Amsterdam-style cafes on the way. There's just huway TOO many labels and the Hipster fad is over, Rover. 😉

110-120 is my sweet spot. Most bourbons north of 120 bring too much ethanol for me and I can’t get around the heat in order to pick up the flavors until I cut it.
