what i do when seating valves is get a lil piece of hose that fits snug on the end of the valve and then chuck that in the end of the drill and then u cant pull too hard on the valve when seating it cuz the hose will pop off the valve. This strategy seems to work great.

It's funny that even though this is kind of a thrown together build, the engine work is better than when most guys doing their best. I've seen quite a few of the Honda guys have good luck with the lapping compound and drill method. 👍

@@KSRPerformanceFabrication the next rendition of the Lexus burnout car you should get Induction Performance the same people that built the engine in Cooper's 2JZ 4th Gen Camaro to build a 2JZ for the Lexus and put a TH400 or a Powerglide transmission in it because some of them Lexus came with a 2JZ or a 1JZ in them but without a turbo like in the Supra but the 2JZ should be a direct bolt in or you can get them to build a 1.5JZ but I think you should put any of the JZ engines back in it with a small turbo so you don't have to worry about it trying to spool up during the burnout contest and you can stay in the power band and roast the tires off the car and put the exhaust from the turbo piping coming out of the hood along with the wastegate dump and while you're doing your burnout you can give the crowd a fire flame show as well as a smoke show 😉

theres another way to grind the valves , but basicly the same : chuck an old cut down valvestem in the drill , stick a piece of tight fitting rubber hose over it and the valve stem of the valve you want to grind in , doing it this way allows you to wiggle with the drill a bit without wearing out the valveguide , and the chuck whont leave marks on the good valve stem

🤣👍 Like the 'Not going to worry about rounding corners off and all that' But... 27:10 It's kinda funny how built in doing it right once becomes when you have experienced the results of not doing it the right way. Like the rounding corners deal, yeah it looks better but it also eliminates something sharp that can cut you or a line later. Or doing a simple hand test of valve clearance so you don't have a broken valve train on the first turnover.

I used to catch alot of shit for lapping with a drill instead of the suction cup sticks, especially in the machine shop, but it works great if your not overly aggressive. It's about productivity and results. I like to color the valve seat with a sharpie and spin it with my thumb to highlight the seal area even better, as well.

Put some valve grinding compound on your Philips head screw driver point, in case the screw head is worn. That’ll help remove the screw.
@michaelbakker53142 жыл бұрын
To grind valves in I always used a piece of rubber hose that fit tightly on the stem of the valve. And on the other side of the rubber hose I had a piece of screw thread from a bolt from which I had cut the head. And I also clamped it in a drilling machine, the advantage of the rubber hose is that if the valve stem is too deep to fit in the drill head, you slide the hose over it and it still works.

I haven't seen anybody use a degree wheel in a long time! You younger guys with all the technology and along with it the information are very fortunate. My generation had to depend on things like Hot Rod magazine or just think it out on our own. At about 16 which was 1976 I built a 327 300. I did the three angle valve seats on the camel hump heads. Ported, but even then found out not to polish because of puddling. Pop up TRW pistons to get about 10.5 to 1 compression, but we had the gas for that at the pump back then. The most aggressive cam I could get with a hydraulic lifter set up. We were limited back then, but we sure had fun!

For hex-head bolts in hard to reach places, like on that pickup tube, I use an Xcelite ball driver set, from their 99 series. It has a screwdriver handle and extension for the bits, and they sell a 1/4 hex drive adapter separately, so you can use them in your screw gun/drill or torque wrench. They make both SAE and metric size sets. They have a pretty good reach, I think about 3" without the extension. With SAE and metric sets including the extension, you can get a really good reach. The ball end makes it possible to get the bolt to turn from an angle up to about 15 degrees, too. I'm not a representative, but those suckers have saved me a LOT of time in tight places. The part number for the SAE set is 99PS40BPN. All the best to you and the team.

I use the same technique with the drill all the time, only difference is I use a drill bit and a piece of vacuum hose clamped to the drill bit and simply pushed onto the valve.. Imo this help keep you from side loading the valve and messing up the job.. There is slight amounts of free play in the guide so you want a straight down pull to match what the spring is trying to do.. Hose holds onto the valve pretty good, more than good enough to alternate pulling and releasing to try and get the lapping compound across the face of the valve.. you can hear it as you alternate..

Nobody has the time to lap valves with the suction cups that never stick to the valve and takes 10x longer.
@theosmit63662 жыл бұрын
I still have my valve lapping tool somewhere in my toolbox... the cups are probably rock hard ;). It might be worth it to add a piece of rubber fuel line between the drill chuck and the valve tip when using the drill method, just so there is a bit of compliance for not having perfect alignment with the stem.

Thought the valve lapping "trick" is standard procedure! (though not using a drill) No reason to reface the seats when it's not hurt and you'd have to do lapping when putting in new valves or after cutting the seats anyway. The wildest one that I had done was a "ran when parked" Honda clone pit bike motor where you could see light through the closed intake valve seat - but because it's a motor for some experiments we just ran lapping compound until it sealed closed. Without power tools and that took an entire day. In the end the motor fired up on alcohol with 30% water...
