Back doing my days in the Marines was on many flights in the CH-53's. Both the D model and back then the new E models in places like Yuma MCAS, Fallon NAS, Cherry Point MCAS, Camp Pendleton MCB, and 29 Palms MCB.

First, to get 6 "up" aircraft in the air from one squadron is a feat. Second, 73.5K max take-off weight was never true in reality. Degraded engines and ambients had something to say about that. The Shi**er could do a lot but was old and degraded. Maintainers were fighting a battle with one arm tied behind their back every day- they are the true heroes.

I find it funny that the outstanding feature is the refueling probe really that’s it? How about the difficulty it had staying airborne when the marines first accepted delivery and the number of pilots that refused to fly it because it had a tendency to crash it was called difficult to fly because of instability issues.
