@@DIRTYdeeds613 No that's the gun on the Zumwalt class. This was cancelled I believe because of barrel wear. It would almost have to be replaced after every shot.

While The Navy may have or may not have officially canceled it doesn't matter. The Army is continuing Railgun tech now, look up Hypersonic Blitzer Cannon ;) When I say maybe canceled is bc the military has a clear pattern (if you pay attention) of retiring and or canceling something, renaming it, and either continuing development or reinstatement! Again Railgun is a perfect example of "canceled" and The F-117 is perfect example of "retired" remember much is classified

Yep! The projectiles were far more expensive than conventional, and they never solved the barrel / rail erosion problem.

Nope. EMALS is _not_ a railgun. Only similarity is that both use electromagnetism.

It won't, not in our lifetime. Nobody has any ideas how to solve the barrel/rail erosion problem, and the projectile cost is MUCH higher than conventional guns.

If the Navy really is considering using Battleships again, a railgun will probably be in the turrets instead of the 16 inchers. But I still am doubtful they will.
