The planned renovations/decorations for your family room will flow beautifully with the drawing & dining rooms. Might I kindly make one suggestion; perhaps consider Roman shades (mounted high at the ceiling) for the family room and kitchen. This way you won’t obstruct the views of either the outside or the mural on the walls. You could even go a step further and add a decorative tape that pulls in the color of your cabinets yo tie the space together even more. HTH

I would have a nice wood cabinet built into that TV hole, then the TV, auxiliary equipment and wires could all be put behind the wood doors that would be flush with the rest of the wall. It would be a shame to lose the space and I never leave visible “black plastic” out in my rooms. Not that I’ve ever had a TV! I can watch whatever I want on my iPad. When you can afford it, you could cover the painted brick fireplace and hearth with natural, white stone.

I love it! I had a chinoiserie mural hung in our master bath. Since then, I've been contemplating all the potential areas for more chinoiserie wallpapers and murals. I will be doing the stairs next! I got my wallpaper in! The stairs lead to our bonus room above the garage (my craft room), so it won't be on a main staircase. I don't think I'd be brave enough to do a central staircase. We have a beautiful old brick fireplace and sometimes I feel it’s quaint like the English countryside but it also feels very dark and I wonder if we should do something like this. Lovely! Years ago I had Laura Ashley chinoiserie wallpaper in my bedroom. It always made going to sleep feel like I was retiring to a peaceful forest. I also have to say that I have lamp envy. very nice!

I'm slowly working on my 25 yr old builder grade home and one thing to consider are the interior and exterior doors. Builders mass install the cheapest 4 panel doors available and there are different styles available that would really change the look of your house. I am going to go with shaker style since the exterior design of my house has craftsman elements. With the doors, upgrade door handles. Once again, so many different styles available.

Alabaster is such a wonderful paint color. I painted over my brick fireplace surround with the same warm white paint I used on walls and trim (BM Cloud Cover) and it lightened, freshened and updated the whole space. I love all your updates, Jennifer. Can’t wait to see what happens with the TV nook! Plantation shutters are stylish, but they block so much light!!
