well let me say that my parents in law speak hokkien. I speak angmo. And we didn't talk much. But we were still respectful of each other, a lot of gesturing and very basic English communication. Things changed when FIL was hospitalised. I stayed by his bedside while my wife slept. Small talk. He stayed at our home, and after his surgery I bathed him. A naked elderly man, with whom I couldn't communicate, washing him so intimately. And after that things were different. Language is still difficult, but we now connect at a different level. And I thank God for this time together. :)

there were a few instances in this episode where John mentioned about “being the man he wants to be” - will be keen to learn more about him sharing about his view of masculinity, the qualities/attributes that a man should possess etc. P.S having JonPaul in this discussion will be insightful as well

My husband (then bf) didn't mention that his mum was at home when I went to his house to study. Never even intro me to her. And because his parent bedroom is on the 2nd floor, I assume she wasn't home. And the first time I saw his mum, I was drinking water in the kitchen. I choked on the water when his mum appeared in the kitchen n me trying to say "hello auntie" while choking was just plain chaos 💀

I feel that it’s different when you bring home a bf/gf when you are still studying vs when you are already a working adult. When you are still studying, your future in-laws still see you as a child and their attitude towards you will be more nurturing and caring so it is easier to build a close, almost parent-child relationship. When it is a working adult in late 20s to mid 30s meeting future in-laws, it’s hard to have that natural closeness unless they are very open, welcoming and loving which is not typical of an Asian household

Just curious..is it normal for two family not to meet at all until when the big day comes...like both side didn't even see each other before even their children has been dating for the longest time...
