But isn't their actions (at its core), at least somewhat understandable in a society where education isn't free? Some higher education may cost you, to varying degrees from very low, to more private options, but still within a manageable student loan -- this is the Nordic model and much of Europe as well. When such basic options in life is at least available (with some effort) to everyone, corruption goes way down IMO.
@WhompingWalrus5 жыл бұрын
@@joachimb9305 This scandal isn't about the cost of higher education - it's about the space available for those who want to attend the most prestigious universities. There are only so many slots for people to attend, and this scandal was about wealthy people cheating to appear better in the metrics which determine who gets those slots - like by cheating on the entrance exams. It was supposed to be a system largely based on aptitude and merit. Of course the price of higher education in the US is also an issue, but I'm pretty sure that's not what this particular scandal is about.

In general it was a revolution that aimed to throw away absolute monarchy, which is also taken as an example by nearby countries. It was a bloody shift towards establishing a Republic. No one wants to listen to Kings tax them to oblivion, even the good earning merchants, just to fund wars (they recently participated in the Amercan war for independence against the Brits) and see the Royal Family doing well for themselves. Monarchies are kinda like socialist countries somehow, you pay huge tax to the Royal Family whenever they want to, and if you are unfortunately born a peasant, there's virtually no way to get out of that class.

Actually, community service is a common punishment for first-time misdemeanors of this stature, regardless of wealth. I'm not going to argue that rich people dont have an advantage in the CJS cause that's obviously not true since they have access to better lawyers, but honestly, this is pretty standard.

Miha Ucakar Noah is making public service here: a funny spin is an aid for attention and therefore memory he is helping to build memories in people with very short attention span. I therefore cherish his work for using his platform and fame to call the attention on the not funny corruption that divides the legal system into two tiers: one for the wealthy and a very different for the not wealthy.

France is not socialist. We're moderate capitalists. We have universal healthcare, universal education, and because everyone can be cared for equally, our average lifespan goes up, and people are happy. However, we still have independent businesses and trade that fluctuates, but to avoid the exploitation of the worker similarly to the ultra-capitalism of the US, we have unions that guarantee the rights of the worker. France's economy is *proportionally* better than that of the US for a reason.
