"A theft of consent." What a brilliant concept! Nuance matters. Thank you both Michaela and Trevor for this great conversation. And Michaela for your AMAZING show.

In contract law, if you conceal or neglect to inform the other party of a significant fact that could affect their decision to agree, it's the same as active deception and the contract can be nullified. So the concept has existed for a long time, just not applied as openly to sexual relationships.
@Visplight

@Daniel Hostetler Uh, no... I'm talking about contract law. Hence my use of the phrase "in contract law." Torts are a separate issue.

Trofoot: For real-----even white people are getting sick and tired of the same old narratives about white people done over and over again, and being more receptive to stories being told from people who aren't white or male for a change because they're different, which is really good.

@Lwandile M rather delete your comment. 1stly "coloured" is a culture & Trevor does not identify with that culture. He is mixed raced & identifies as black. He also has right to hire whoever he feels will do a great job regardless of their race. You're so misinformed.
@sanelisiwebhengu9403
@sanelisiwebhengu9403 4 жыл бұрын
@Lwandile M I really don't understand your line of questioning. What do you mean when you say "What about black women?" Trevor's story is not about black women, it is about his black mom & that's it. The story doesn't need a black director. The only thing that would be wrong is it the story was written by a white woman. Now we already know that's not the case since the movie is based on Trevors real life. It's his personal project & not something he owes to anybody. You make valid points that aren't relevant to Trevor & his project sadly. His story isn't fictional so it doesnt matter who directs as long as the story final product is authentic.

@Lwandile M I don't know what industry you are in but as a writer & director myself, what I've picked up from all you have said is that you don't really understand the role of a Director in feature film or any other production.

Netflix totally low balled this beautiful talented black women and I am glad she found a much better fit for her show than what they were offering. I hope this can serve as a lesson that you can't just say Black Lives Matter when you are not willing to pay your workers what you know they are worth.

Trevor.. I think you may be one of the top 10 men out there. Your empathy and understanding of a women’s perspective and your desire to understand is truly healing to my soul. I really hope you read and take in this gratitude. It is very genuine. And as a comic especially... to be able to hold your own so powerfully without sexism and actually while dissecting and exposing sexism. You may be the only male comic doing this. And you are doing it powerfully. And you are making a big difference in the world.

Excellent interview. I’m a soon to be 69 yr old woman and the series blew me away. It was very thoughtful, provocative and insightful. Her monologue in episode 8 caused me to burst into tears as it so aptly conceptualized some of my own experiences in a few different kind of relationships. They were tears of affirmation along with instilling a sense of confirmation. Needless to say, she brings a whole lot to the table!

When I say I absolutely loved every moment of this “ I may destroy you “ show. I wish I can meet her and hug her and tell her thank you so much for every part from beginning to end truly hit home for me and I’m so grateful to see raw footage of what truly is happening out here to make people feel like damn I am not the only one that went through and this and how to look outside the box in hopes that someone found an answer to their pain to be able to get up everyday and move forward knowing you’re not alone and it will get better as long as you show up for your self and love yourself everyday because at the end all things have a bigger purpose for each and everyone of us If you’re reading this ... just know Every morning you wake up.... You have a purpose so move forward with intention and love yourself every single moment of every single day 🤍when you do God or if you believe in the universe will have all the right people come into your life as many will walk away to make room for the great ones for the next level of your life. 🤍

Whew, a friend suggested I watch the show right after I turned 18. The best suggestion of my life, I wish I could go back to the first time I watched the series. Such a/an captivating, uncomfortable, moving, educational, eye-opening, riveting and amazing experience. The writing of the show is the best I have seen thus far, it is simply the best show ever. It explores literally every theme you can think of, makes you question your beliefs and leaves you realising how life is not binary. It is also going to withstand the test of time because it forever remains relevant to everything happening in the world. Thank you so much Michaela for this undeniable masterpiece!

@@givelove7050 Absolutely nailed the comparison. If only she could sing as well as Mills or Williams, though. And for you young folks, Stephanie Mills rocked R&B songs back in the 80s (see "Bit by Bit" at the end of the movie, Fletch)

She is the best actor I've seen in probably 20 years. She is OUTSTANDING. She first caught my eye in "Top Boy" and blew me completely away in "Black Earth Rising" (BBC/Netflix).

I watch a lot of shows as films when I make my video essays for Lessons of Life & Love. However, I was truly surprised when I covered IMDY. The online discourse didn't blow up as much as I anticipated - you could really see the difference compared to something like Normal People. And why, suddenly, another story about consent - Promising Young Woman - is getting a lot of attention. There are more questions than answers, but IMDY really deserves a watch. It's an eye-opening, fresh take, that can teach us all A LOT.

After just having finished the series , i went back to episode one and first scene is her wall full of sticky notes- that made me know that really every scene in this series is worthy of examination! Its all in the details and brilliant writing and directing ! Michaela is beautiful inside and out, and ultra talented and her voice is so worth listening to. If you watch and listen and really pay attention ( the part about getting off social media was brilliant by the way), you see how it all works together. She gives the viewer the chance to discern for themselves and assumes we are not all preteens in our capacity to form our own conclusions. Putting LIFE in our faces. Yes, it was certainly triggering as they say in places, but what is hidden shall always be revealed. Love her! Can't wait to see what's next!

Yes!! About time..been waiting for her here since her show came out with this show. She has been awesome for ages. But this show..she is describing things that make it difficult to express. So if you ever feel a certain way after trauma have your love ones watch this. It shows how complex the PTSD can be. It is never black and white
