As a kid I grew up in a conservative town where everyone voted McCain and Romney. Even I voted Romney a month after I turned 18. I just accepted what people said about not liking Obama. But I remember watching him and Mrs. Obama on TV and their girls and wondering why exactly people don’t like them as people - regardless of his policies. I remember during science class in 8th grade he gave a speech that was televised to all school children across the country and I thought he had nice things to say, even though I knew I wasn’t *supposed* to like him. Even when I was 20 and living in DC I didn’t pay much attention to Obama or politics beyond visiting the White House. It wasn’t until I started my international relations degree (and also saw how bad trump was) in 2017 that I became politically involved and kind of mourned that I lived through 8 years of Obama without appreciating any of it. I’m glad he’s still very politically active though and I always enjoy watching his interviews either on shows like this or the Pod Save America podcast. He wasn’t perfect, and no president has been perfect, but he was what I think we needed at the time. The calm before the storm.

I'm from Germany and I would even argue that the entire world needs Obama's sanity to stop the current threat to fragile Democracies worldwide. Obama said it eloquently that what happens in America has an effect on the rest of the world. If Trump comes back our extreme far-right party - that literally parrots Trumpism for 7 years - will rise more. Fortunately we have a stable multiple party system that limits the threat and general sense of responsibility due to the past but not all other countries are as aware. Please support the Democrats, even if they seem disappointing to one support them for the aforementioned reasons.

Deep voices are more relaxing. I've also found certain accents to relax me slightly more due to their unique vowel and consonant sounds. I personally am super picky with voices to the point where I thought I could never listen to audiobooks and it turned out I hadn't discovered Hugh Frasier's talents. I've listened to everything he narrated and often can fall asleep to it easily on low volume when my brain won't relax on its own. Another factor is speed, and youtube makes it easy to change the speed of videos so you can have a slower read speed and lower pitch closer to Obama's way of speaking sometimes by adjusting that alone which I frequently do for faster readers or female voices which are naturally higher pitched.

Obama is so brilliant and comes off professorial when he speaks. Listening to him, you always feel like you're learning something. Plus he's so witty and funny too then it becomes entertaining. As opposed to the guy that came after (#45) who had the opposite effect. Listening to that guy had a dumbing down effect on everybody and that was just so aggravating. What do you know about the probably 60 things he was involved in or did in 4 years? I know....same answer. You wanna know why? The reason you don't know much of anything about what they did in office is the news media leans very much to the left. Democrat. Besides Fox News of course and how much Fox have you watched? Exactly. They hid what Obama was doing cos he was failing at every turn and they hid what Trump was doing cos he was killing it. Absolutely killing it.

Oh wow, I have to say that strikes me as overly optimistic of humanity. Even Obama pointed out our tendency toward tribalism as a species and he pointed out the ways in which things have gotten worse in terms of that division to the point where we've stopped giving each other benefit of the doubt long enough to listen to one another. Don't get me wrong, I think it's possible to achieve what you say that facts will matter again and misinformation will stop... but I don't think it's possible to have both that and the internet (and our current deeply globalized society.) I don't think the backlash against rapid societal changes is done by a long shot and I'm not even sure American democracy will survive the misinformation bad actors put out there (even the craziest stuff starting with Q has followers who made it into government and some got reelected.) It's going to be a long bumpy ride in years ahead for this country but also the rest of the world when it comes to fighting for Democracy when the anti-Democracy actors out there are so much better at using social media and conspiracy theories to brainwash people into behaving in the worst possible ways, and I'd hate for you to have false hope that it won't be a struggle to make it through. I'm not trying to depress you, but these two are far more intelligent, reasonable, witty, and articulate than the average human and it would be unrealistic for you to think the average human will become like them any time soon.

Trevor Noah is a superb interviewer. The rapport he has with President Obama is just magical. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Obama is a rock star. Trump is a rodeo clown.
