Another thing we should change is the public school system. I graduated high school 2013 and man are they liberal. I had a teacher tell me military children would go around killing people or some history teacher telling the students that the south is the most racist place in the US. Weirdly enough when the army sent my family to North Carolina I didn't see any of that racist propaganda that they taught me. When I actually got here I was very scared to go off base but the people are much friendlier compared to SoCal. That was the day I left my liberal bubble and turned conservative. To be honest liberal are pretty racist because they believe because your colored you need thier "protection", nonsense I can protect myself without anyone's help, I also dont need government handouts.

the South was the way they described, back when the Democratics ruled the South, from 1820's to civil war, end of reconstruction to ~ 1980.The Democrats had their terrorist organization, the KKK, to help them keep control. President Jimmy Carter then lost the south to President Ronald Reagan (blue dog Democrats joined with the Republicans)

Shadd Jack.. your right and its incorrect. I live in Chicago and can tell you the working class white neighborhoods here are very racist and they don't even care, many of them embrace it. typically they live in Irish or Polish islands surrounded by blacks and they are unapologetic in that they hate blacks lol

The north was so racist they abolished slavery just to get rid of black people.
@raygartargaryen5927
@raygartargaryen5927 6 жыл бұрын
The Reaction What they are trying to say is that Northern Democrats are pretty racist. I am part black and have had the same experience. Also, I am from the South. Also, nice try trying to distort the issue and conflate things. It is possible for Democrats in the North now to believe ignorant things and be racist. In fact Democrats have a legacy of racism. No one is saying the South never had problems with racism back then, and obviously held slaves. The Democrats were the ones who wanted to keep slaves, no matter North or South, so you’d have to explain that one too. Steven Douglas was a Chicago Democrat for slavery against Lincoln. But, for you to put out that nonsequiter as if it just totally makes his point moot is intellectually dishonest. Southern people are not racist as white people up north claim. Many of them have never even seen the South and claim this as if they know better than us Southern blacks, yet when we try to explain our experience of it not being true, all that talk of listening to blacks for diverse opinions goes out the window. Claiming that the people in the south are blanket racists is just as dumb as claiming that all people of European ancestry are secretly racist just because western civilization influenced the world. Please look before you leap.
@raygartargaryen5927
@raygartargaryen5927 6 жыл бұрын
The Reaction To clarify the above, the point was to say that systematic racism does not exist in the south and northern white people are the main people perpetuating this nonsense. That is what makes them kind of racist. Making judgements on a race of people without evidence is racist. And making broad brushed claims on an entire group of people without evidence is foolish. Obviously individuals can be racist but that’s not really anything anyone can do anything about. Whites constantly telling blacks that racists are out to get them is racist because not only is it not true, it infantilizes blacks and prevents them from getting opportunities and assimilating into American society.

The United States are not the only nation of different peoples united by an idea. The UK is not "the Angles" - it's picts, Celts, Spaniards, Saxons, Vikings, Jews, Nornans and Angles - under the Westminster system, and before that the magna Carta. I agree with much more than I disagree with, but I would like to see a debate on republic v constitutional monarchy, between Mark Steyn and Andrew Klavan.

Obviously modern countries are amalgams of smaller, older nations. All of the Peoples listed above were separate until brought together. That still leads to the idea that the resultant is a nation based on ethnic/cultural roots. As such, the _Frontier_ that was The Colonies in the 16th, 17th, and 18th Centuries were really something different. It was, by rule of law, an extension of the British Empire. The Revolutionary War (War of Independence) really threw everything up into the air. With the birth of the United States of America, the country was made _In Principia_ to be unrecognizant of anything other than the individual and his liberties/duties. That, in other words, was not a nation of _a people,_ but a nation of _the people._ Klavan is being very informal about this. I'm sure there could be a lot of fun to be had discussing this with him. I'm not one to nitpick at oversimplifications made _in passing_ to spot a point if the more fine explanation does it all the same.

To the point that "The Right" doesn't know how to tell stories, it does make me cringe. This hasn't always been the case. Actually, Hollywood was decently conservative for awhile - and then the '60s happened. Major writers used to espouse conservative (and classical liberal) ideas...and then the postmodern era happened. It's not that being on the Right means being bereft of creativity or artistic vision...it may have become that way, but it didn't used to be. Even the perception that only the Left can be creative or artistic is really damaging.

I find your disussion of the importance of narrative interesting, especially on light of JRR Tolkein's, and more recently J Peterson's emphasis on myth. More importantly they emphasize the deep truths of myth that can't be discovered in any science book (or graphs and charts of data for that matter). Perhaps this is also why Hollywood could not sell their version of the Afgan/Iraq War but Clint Eastwood could. People find truth narratives more compelling because they recognize it in their own human experience.

Cars don't kill a person a minute. They kill a person every fourteen minutes. 40k people a year? pshaw. you'd have to get up to half a million a year! Okay, because the average plane crash is like 300 people, it doesn't mater that it happens once a year, it's a hella body count. Most car crashes kill one or two or four people, so outside of county wide coverage who is going to care? Sorry, mister dead person and ten grieving people. When there are 300 dead and 3,000 grieving relatives, that gets the headlines. "if it bleeds, it leads" means if it has more blood then that particular incident is on the news. Never mind that the blood from individual car crashes is in volume greater than plane crashes, you don't get to see it all in one flooding lake. individual car crashes are background noise; one big crash is covered on every news station in the nation!

Missing the point entirely. He didn't say it was about the body count, he used it to make his point.

@@kanteannightmare The point being that what is in the news is what people think about. What if it's in the news, but it isn't there because of nefarious narrative. What if what's in the news is about human interest, and flaws in human interest (quantity in a minute rather than quantity in a year) is the human sensitivity point. People think statistics are boring. I think statistics are easily manipulated, and therefore not interesting. Heart disease killed more last year than covid, but we haven't shut down our economy and fought a war against fat people with slogans like "if it saves just one life, it will have been worth it!" We didn't use obesity to double the national debt. We couldn't; the optics and fear weren't there. But 300 people die in a plain crash, and that's news.

Gleen Beck became a religious zealot. Not because of his subscription model. I've been following him since the Tea Party started. He's more preacher then political activist. Nothing wrong with that, but a lot of people have separated religion and politics as it was intended to be. Now I understand WHY religion is so important to him, he hit a rough patch in his life. Was weak, where religion gave him strength. But it also alienate a lot of non-religious or 'softcore' religious people.
@blessedalcuin

Who says religion is "intended to be separated from politics"? You did, of course, but the founding fathers didn't. They wanted the American citizen to be moral and upstanding. And don't pull the "deist" card out of your ass because they weren't deists the way you're thinking--the eighteenth-century deist was a far cry from the twenty-first century deist.
