I remember in the early 60's going to the McDonald's in Buffalo NY. No inside seating, no inside, you walked up to the window to order. They made fresh french fries in front of you. A whole potato with skin was put into a hand operated french fry press and the cut french fries went into the fry basket and into the hot beef tallow! They were the best!

@Weeaboos in a basement McDonald's never actually went out of business, the original founders Richard and Maurice (Mac) McDonald originally started with this as the first McDonald's location. Ray Kroc took his share of the company and used it as leverage and created the McDonald's Corporation and started franchising, in turn he opened a location across the street from this original location as competition to prove a point to the original founders of McDonald's that did not want Kroc to franchise and grow the business out of the notion that food quality would diminish and, in turn, put the original location out of business all the while the franchised McDonald's locations kept expanding.
