an idea for the dry brushing, use both yellow and grey for the whole thing and then use some green on the top parts of the outcrop to make a feel off some small moss/ lichens growing on it

Yeah you can get poofy brushes that apply the green in dabs that look much more like moss. A little yellow in with the green looks best

hey petco the term you were looking for is dry brushing! also i know that for a fact the black base color you used would be fine for rock face , and a gray dry brush would be what you want to go with there are a lot of cool diorama KZbin channels i love them and i think its so cool that you are adding these techniques to your scapes also loved the oblivion music in the back ground

Think once she's used to that new home there'll be little chance of her wanting to run away!!! She seems to love it!! I think those little "escapes" were more just her being like an excited puppy! Brilliant setup, Petko! 👏 Can't wait to see your enclosure design skills progress to the point Tanner asks you for advice (for when he gets into inverts after your persuading!)

Petko, i have been subscribed since 2015 on my personal account. We have spoke over Instagram because I needed help identifying a jumping spider but you didn't know what it was but you thought it was really cool. We also discussed our favorite skate tricks and mine at the time was the dolphin flip. i have recently got one of these centipedes as well and I'm so excited to be able to watch your video to set up its enclosure. i started this account in hopes to spread insect awareness and how we can utilize them in future sciences. I was even sponsored by the US military in high school to conduct experiments to see if we could make generically altered insects to make landfills and trash more biodegradable so the earth heals faster. You really inspired me and my studies in those times, thank you for everything.

Hi Petko, I just wanted to thank you for turning me into a self proclaimed arachnophile. I owned a chilean rose hair when I was younger but I certainly wasn't as enthusiastic about spiders as I am now. I intend on getting another tarantula in the foreseeable future but i've refused to do so until i can care for it properly and ensure it has the best quality of life possible. You're one of my favorite content creators and I as well as all your other subscribers appreciate what you do🙂

The black and yellow make me think of a sulfur deposit near volcanic activity. You might want to try a blend of colors in layers like green, brown, tan and black. Two colors still won't mimick nature that much as even something like red clay has multiple hues to it.

If you would like a more natural color combo for the back ground, you should use a brown-based dark grey at the base color and then use like a slate great or grey mixed with white at the dry brush color! That would capture shadows, light, as well as the dirt and stone colors well

*** DON'T CHANGE IT*** The background piece still looks really natural, even with that blotchy spots. It makes the rocky part of it look like it has an oxidized patch. Which is basically what rust is for rocks. It's a very natural occurrence, and it shows age. Also, if you're gonna add something, add a few more dark rocks (smaller ones of course).

You can apply drybrush of few colours like yellow and dark green heavier and then aply white lighter with brush realy dry. It will make other colours join together. You will get deep shadows and highlights then.

Meeting Tanner from Serpa Design?!?!?! YASSSSSSS!!!!!!! Actually been dreaming of a collab between you two lol.. sure, although critters probably don't care much for "aesthetics" (and can even make a mess of one's best naturalistically-artsy efforts lol) I know I can't wait til my T slings grow bigger and I can make cool natural enclosures for em. Already tried my hand at a vivarium setup for my aussie marbled scorpions and worked well, and really gives a sense of satisfaction. Of course, having countless T enclosures like you do makes putting in that effort a bit impractical but I do love how you're embracing that aspect more and more. AND I hope someone like yourself can get Tanner more interested in invertebrates!!! 😁

So many videos have this feeling of possible looming doom. Like it's all on a knife's edge, with the possibility of tipping the wrong way. haha everything ends fine, but there are moments of anxiety throughout. Critters bolting left and right, sometimes more than one, while the guy always sounds and seems chilled and chuckling. 🙃 what a guy! Great videos. Like watching a film filled with suspense

A little late on the comment. If you get some grout dye you can color the tile glue in stead of using paint so the surface will still keep its rock texture. Mix smaller amounts and use several colors. Switch between them as you paint it on to blend them together. I really enjoy your videos.

I am growing a small Mediterranean banded centipede out and recently I have gotten an exceptionally large and probably female individual of the same species as well. She is a replacement for a smaller but quite friendly one that I kept for three years and then he died from molting issues. She is just like an Asian one. Sadly they hide underground and rarely eat in front of me. If the enclosure lid or door closes well, they won’t escape. Their powers are overestimated.

Grey without a doubt! Try to run the brush over some paper first before applying the paint direct, you can judge from how much paint comes off if it will be too much. I love the centipede though! Woo look how big it's got 🤩

Hi Petko really enjoyed your video absolutely loved it and what nice enclosure for the centipede 😮❤️
@karynsztabaluk14792 жыл бұрын
The enclosure looks good even if you're not completely happy with it. I think that with that substrate mix that maybe do the black background and then dry brush on two different shades of brown, one light and one darker. I think it'll give you the natural textured look you're going for and it'll match the overall color scheme of the enclosure. This one still looks great though, awesome job as usual.
@Dogtroll2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, you could really tell that the centipede liked the enclosure they where all over the place. It kinda makes sense when you think about it, with all those legs they are perfectly designed to be atleast partially arboreal but most of the time you see centipede enclosures with hardly anything to climb because people are worried about them escaping. That background is perfect in combination with the enclosure because it allows them to climb safely without risking an escape.

Tile Glue = Mortar. Basically cement and sand. For your drybrushing, maybe browns and reds?
@Lightman03592 жыл бұрын
A dull green drybrush would give the appearance of moss. you can also mix your base color and some substrate into your glue [PVA/white glue works for this as well] to give the base layer more texture to highlight [or potential anchor points for webbing or vines].
@Lightman03592 жыл бұрын
Also, i'm not sure if it works on centipedes and spiders, but AntsCanada uses a mixture of baby powder diluted in rubbing alcohol, painted on the open edges of his open enclosures to prevent ants from escaping. The mixture causes them to slip

The name of the technique, for lightly airbrushing a small amount of paint on a surface to high light it, is called dry brushing. The easiest way to dry brush is start with a towel and rub the brush across the towel til you get the correct amount of paint on the brush. Hints, the name dry brushing. You are trying to dry the brush out a little so you don't get solid coverage.
