thinking the same thing... bit of powder versus random weird chemicals.. uuuuh.. I would say mixing rubbing alcohol + baby powder together (about 1 to 1 parts) and painting the sides with that paste and let it dry. Ant keepers use that a lot to keep ants inside of enclosures. And I guess they wouldn't do that if it wasn't safe? I would assume it would work the same for spiders.

Most chemicals are harmless once in a dried condition unless ingested. But I doubt the spiders will do that. For example, acrylic paint is toxic to fish but can still be used in aquariums since once it is dry, it doesn't harm the fish.

FYI, if you take powder (baby powder a lot of people use) and mix it with alcohol (if you want it to dry quickly) or water (if you have more time) so that it forms a light, thin paste, you can then brush that on the edges of the container you wish to enclose them in, let it dry and then move your spiders. As the powder dries, it forms a “film” of sorts on the edge surface, which will prevent the, from climbing it. Just thought I would pass that along. Sorry for your loss, Hun. Much love, Shelbie =)❤️💙❤️💙🕷🕸

These could be nematodes from flies or infected feeders. If yes, you need to check whole rest of your spiders. It's super deadly because big adult spiders can leave with them even whole year, then stop eating for a couple days , start vomiting nematodes and then died .

Between Petko, ExoticsLair, and Tarantula Kat, I’ve grown an appreciation and even a fascination for tarantulas, spiders, and arachnids in general. I got a scorpion (forest) a couple months ago, and just got my first tarantula (a juvenile Avicularia avicularia) about a month ago, and even a jumping spider. I’ve been wanting to get into the hobby since I was 14, but watching their channels has taught me so much about husbandry and about these creatures in general. They’ve shown me that they aren’t as scary in the traditional sense. My next goal is a tailless whip scorpion...and more tarantulas 😏 I have quite the wishlist.

Petko why not get a ten gallon glass aquarium and try the rain repellent on that? We can see through it to see what's happening and the spray is meant for glass so maybe it would work much better. (Hydrophobic means water repellent in this case btw. Hydrophobic can also be a reference to sick things that refuse water such as in cases of rabies but that's a different story) A funny thing happened while watching this video...I was laying in the tub watching the phone over the side on the floor (so I wouldn't risk dropping it in the bath water). When you were showing one of your small tarantulas that had dropped into the big bin a little house spider came cruising by the phone exactly the size of the tarantula as seen on the screen. It tripped me out but made me laugh too.

@The Dark Den, Don't know if you have space for it but... You know those plastic storage boxes that goes under the bed for socks and what not? With wheels? Regarding the spiders in 11:35, the main topic of the video. Once they outgrow their new enclosure. Perhaps you should try using one of those? It tends to come with good lids, it is plastic so you can create ventilation and most importantly. Due the footprint. They might do better in the communal manner in the long run. Plus, you can always only use a plastic piece of acrylic to have a separator so they don't have the full enclosure from the beginning. Then remove it as they grow bigger. But it will give them more room to dig and move around.

for anyone judging Petko's use of these chemicals, let me try and explain his train of thoughts: those chemicals are probably not harmful at all. thing is, there is probably not even anything that can come off, as with the powder. the powder can get stuck to the tarantula's legs, and maybe hinder their ability to climb later on. this however is merely a surface-treatment to give the walls of the container the lotus-effect - it adds a solid texture to the surface to make it difficult for water (and tarantulas) to stick to it. he waited for it to dry, so there should be nothing that can rub off to the T.

@@jenetikitty well the stuff used vs insects is diatomaceous earth which is made of diatom shells, tiny microorganisms. I suppose its like the stage before limestone or w/e. but the microscopic shells are all hard and pointy. and talc is super soft. also I think a insect has to basically get covered in that stuff for it to work. I dont see how a tiny bitve talc on its feet would hurt a spider. and talc isnt diatomaceous earth anyway, I honestly dont think you can use talc the same way. oh well its done i just hope the spiderlets will be ok

@@SuperLoops That's true, diatomaceous earth is pretty awesome stuff. But if you google "talcum powder fleas" you'll find pages on that too. From what I understand, Talcum powder can suffocate fleas.... presumably, tarantulas should be large enough that this isn't a concern, BUT.... (though as I google. I also see people saying it doesn't work.... Of course, I actually found myself struggling with fleas the other day--a real shock for someone with indoor only cats. and every single 'flea killer' I found, had at least one person saying "this doesn't work!!" So DOES talcum powder work...? who knows! I just know my bag of diatomaceous earth got here today, and I've got a date with my carpets.

Buy some 99% isopropyl alcohol. You can preserve her easily and cost effectivly. After about a week you'll need to change the liquid as it displaces the organs of the spider but you should only need to do this once maybe twice depending on how big she is. You'll notice when you need to change it as a yellow tint will show from the alcohol

Another anti grip method you can do that's safe is clear box tape. Usually about 4 or 5 inches wide. Tarantulas can't hang onto it.

Im sorry about the sweet spider that webbed alot she was awesome. Looks to me maybe she had a impaction or a rupture from being unable to toilet properly. It will make them bring up their food again (it happens with people too). That mite looks nasty too. Wonder if it caused it to start having problems. Im so sad either way. I loved the way she webbed up everything. The enclosure looked fantastic. Thats why i have my green bottle blue she has awesome webbing in her home. It looks fantastic. So glad you got all those little gigas babies in their new home ok. Wow theyre growing big. Theyre looking stunning. Ive just joined your petreon page. Keep on being awesome Petko. Chriss from UK

You could try Fluon/PTFE, it's used to prevent ants from escaping open top enclosures. Talcum powder mixed with rubbing alcohol and smeared on the walls might also work and it's safe, at least it's safe for ants.

That fluid suggests to me a digestive system issue with stomach. concentrated hemolymph. Which suggests to me that what it fed upon may have had foodborne disease/illness. It is of course possible to get a sick individual from live feed from reputable sources life sucks like that x.x. Sorry for the loss!

On the spider that died- maybe it was something you fed her, maybe the roach or whatever it was had a parasite or disease or some pesticides on it.
