It's not physically harmful to put scorpions under UV light but it does stress them out. Their whole exoskeleton is like a giant daylight sensor which tells them if it's day or night and is safe to come out. If you keep them under constant UV light they feel like they're in really bright daylight which will stress them and they'll hide all the time. They shine because they have a special protein in their exoskeleton, if you get a fresh moulted scorpion it won't shine until the exoskeleton hardens but the shed exoskeleton will still shine
@a_lethe_ion7 жыл бұрын
well and UV light is UV light.. so high energy deep penetrating and in long exposure can do damage to dna. okay for the black one, but the second one doesn't really look like it has much of a defense against light rays.

Scorpions have an extreme toleranz to radiation. After a nuclear weapon test in the Sahara Desert the fallout killed most animals in a large area except scorpions. They have been testet to survive 300x higher radiation than humans.

Tbh: Crocodiles often kill their prey by drowning it, breaking it's neck or they just rip off parts. Lions usually kill their prey with a bite to the throat as far as I know. But yeah, those bugs are savages. A mantid will always try to eat the head of it's prey first in order to stop its struggling, those predatory bugs don't care. However watching them catch their prey makes me wonder how they even survive out in the wild :D Great Video Petko! :)

Not sure why I haven't commented on one of your videos before, but I love your content not only because it is genuinely high quality content but also because what you showcase in each video is interesting as hell. On top of that your videos actually did help me with my fear of spiders - whenever I had a spider in my home I would have one hell of a stressful time catching it and letting it out, but now it's kind of like seeing a cute animal which unfortunately I can't pet, but I can observe before letting it back out to the nature. I always found jumping spiders cute but your channel made me develop a new appreciation and sort of an affection for all these intriguing species, so thank you for creating such informative and influential content! You certainly gained a loyal viewer who appreciates what you do beyond the entertainment value.

When we think about it, The Dark Den really is a good representation of cockroach's hell, maybe one day you should do a video where an adventurous cockroach would kinda try to escape hell and / or free his homies, before either succeeding or failing poorly, i mean a video on same kind than the Halloween Crab video, just an idea passing by (i love u keep up the good work btw, i reaaaaally enjoy that channel)

from what i read, scorpions glow under UV lights because they can use their body as a "light sensor" that helps them to understand if they're hiding or not, or if it is day or night. I don't know if it is true, but sounds interesting to me

by the way, scorpians glow because a layer on their exoskeleton reflects the UV rays to protect it against UV rays in sunlight it also helps to attract mates.

the uav output from the scorpion is used for certain animals unable to detect colour or depth they use led sensors to see meaning if the scorpion is too bright it may look to be unedible and or poisonous warning other animals of their existence without using direct visual difference based on the human eye they do however have many advantages over other nocturnal species
