True but why would his dad be afraid of his own son to not wanna stop him? It seems like he showed no kind of authority over his son at all. Now, unless his dad is in a wheelchair and there's no much he could do to push him away there's no excuse for why you can't be the father and do what you're supposed to do as a father figure.

If I remember ( Even though I tried to keep this video in the deepest depths of my brain cause boyyyyy) This movie was trying to show the flipped version of what usually happens in families. A parent - usually the father - abusing their child and the wife pretending the situation isn't happening, to protect her relationship or 'ideal lifestyle'. Usually the abuser manipulates the victim into feeling they can't say anything "People won't believe you" type shit or the victim feels shame or embarrassment. A lot of black children experience sexual abuse at the hands of a family member, but a lot of times in the past it has been blamed on them looking "too grown" or "trying to get attention" or it is just brushed under the rug. Wowww did not know I was gonna go into all that shheesh...

Quite a few people who are raped don't report it, in fact the majority of rapes go unreported. As for why the mom doesn't? It's a reflection of a lot of incest cases where the other parent is aware of the abuse of the child but out of shame or fear overlooks it. That's the point of the story, to amplify and reflect the reality we don't want to see.

The mom was trying to deny the fact that it was going on, it happens a lot in most rape/sexual abuse cases. They try to act as if everything’s fine out of fear. The son was sexually abusing/raping the dad. I think he wrote “Cacoon man” to vent/cope?? and since the son was abusing him, he panicked when he came to tell him that dinner was ready, scared that he would ask/tell him off for it. I think the movie was really good at portraying how abuse can happen to anyone, no matter what.

This movie/film is actually very dark💯. Usually you’d see a young kid getting molested, but this film has a complete reversal🤦♀️. People don’t realize how common incestuous rape is (DISGUSTING!) 😤. And that mom was just like those adults that have seen their OWN CHILD being raped, but don’t even say anything😡. Many people can’t handle that but it’s the truth 🤷♀️💯 Thank you and god bless y’all for reacting to this 🙏

I don’t know if laughing is you guys’ way to cope with the uncomfortableness of the situation depicted in the film but I really hope that’s what it is cause I don’t think it is a funny matter at all. It’s pretty sad and disturbing. Even more so when you think about the fact that some parents do really receive abuse from their children and that this, as ridiculous as we may find a situation where a father is being sexually abused by his son and is afraid of him, just because he is the father and is supposed to be the “authority” out of the two… might be a reality for someone else out there. And then he gets gaslighted and victim blamed because, again, he is supposed to be the “authority” so it is his fault, and because he let it happen even if it was out of trauma and fear. But the thing is abuse and rape can happen to anyone from anyone, even if you are an adult man and even from a family member.

I'm left speechless. Even the book burning in the fireplace in the final scene appears to have been finely art-directed. This is a powerful work of art. The racial underpinnings, however, including the double entendre contained in the title "The Strange Thing About The Johnsons" and "CoCOON Man" worked into one piece of artwork so meticulously crafted are disturbing and definitively not accidental or coincidental! The penultimate impotence represented by the usurpation of the otherwise successful father, husband, and man on the one end of the spectrum, and the unrepentant Oedipal rapist monster son on the other are the parameters and boundaries which he has clearly leveraged to define manhood, and they are well crafted and specific. The spectrum drawn for the mother -- complicit without the slightest intervention even when directly confronted with evidence of the situation and its eventual horrific violence ... choosing rather, still, to maintain the fable of their successful lives while she witnesses the apex of her husband's defilement ... and then later confessing to having been willfully blind -- is also a very specific and well-crafted one, as well. The spectrum for the mother is extended by her relentless agency when her own status and position are openly challenged by the son. Not even the slightest pause or moment of maternal conflict while killing her son -- a requisite demanded in Christian literature edifying "good mothers" -- demarks the final confrontation. She is left standing, consumed with grief for all that has been lost, that is interrupted only by the final declarative THUD of the Cocoon Man tome being tossed and consumed on the pyre. Ari Aster has hidden a tale of Jewish manhood -- irreparably "topped from the bottom" -- that is completely repudiated and despised by the nascent son, who despite his own approaches to worship and at the same time replace his father, is ultimately derailed and rebuked by the family's matriarch. The casting of Angela Bullock, who looks very stereotypical to her role as the Jewish mother exemplar, and the behaviors scripted for her are significant tells of her "Jewishness." The unyielding appropriateness and submission regarding the son's redress of her about the beer, for example -- her modest dress, postures, and behaviors at the wedding and funeral -- are the accoutrements of her position as a well-heeled Jewish mother. The "cocoon" that the Jewish man survives in and never emerges from was brilliantly concealed by the distraction of a black cast -- and the subtle vulgarity implied by the sexually charged taboos of incest and rape ... and the racially charged double meaning of "johnson" ... and the hidden in plain sight display of the word "coon" is what paints this tale of Jewish manhood very subtly with contempt, IMHO.
