How I Keep And Breed Tiger Barbs

A simple approach to keeping and breeding tiger barbs in a single species tiger barb tank, with information about tank mates, tiger barb eggs, and raising their babies. I go over my tiger barb tank setup and general tiger barb care. I also include a chart with tiger barb water parameters such as temperature, pH, and water hardness. I also follow the development of their fry from birth to sexual maturity, with a look at my tiger barb egg nursery.
There's also a warning about keeping tiger barbs in a community tank.

Dave, as always you have done a great job filling this video. As a person who loves aquarium flora and fauna, I appreciate your efforts and time in creating such wonderful content. During my student time, I have been working as an aquatic specialist in a zoo shop chain in Minsk, Belarus. That's why I know difficult to find balance in the process of breeding fish and creating a comfortable environment for them because I visited a lot of fish suppliers and saw how they treat fish - unfortunately for most of them it's just a business. For me, it was a pleasure to hear from my customers - that they somehow managed to breed fish in their tanks (in most cases it was not on purpose). I always took fish and plants from my constant customers, though it was illegal, so-called black market 😁 Because I knew they treat fish with love

Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment. Yes, unfortunately for many businesses it's all about profit, and rarely about the health and well-being of the fish. However, just as it is in nature, there always needs to be a balance between the two. Have a beautiful day my friend. 🐟🦐🦠

I love my tiger barbs, they are so active and it's adorable how they rest and pick fights with each other. Such a fun interactive fish. Had them chasing a youtube video of a laser light on black background from my phone once. So damn cute and curious. When something startles them, they swim a bit away, then turn around to check out what it was. Wonderful fish for pets. With the way they eat in such a frenzy, I call them my little piranhas. Of course when its cleaning time, they promptly try their best to eat my hand lol. Quite a grip they got on there bites.

How many Tiger Barbs do you suggest for a 55 gallon planted tank? I plan on removing the current stock of giant danios for tiger barb species only tank. Can I add them all at once or build the school slowly?
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Жыл бұрын
It's best to add them all at once, and it also helps to have them all about the same age/size. How many you can have will depend on your filtration, number and type of plants, as well as how heavily you feed. With proper maintenance, I'd say you could get away with 30 tiger barbs in a 55 G. Be sure to check your water parameters frequently to be sure that nitrite / nitrate levels don't spike.

I've never tried it, so I have zero experience with that combination. They're both pretty aggressive fish, but a group of tiger barbs will probably give the red-tailed shark a run for its money! Both fish do better in groups of 6 or more fish, and you'll need a large tank of 55 gallons or more. . .

10:24 I think this fish is eating biofilm. If it was an infusoria, it would be visible. 12:05 Why don't you recommend keeping 20 barbs in a 100 liter heavy planted tank?
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Жыл бұрын
They might be eating biofilm, and someone also mentioned that it could be hydra as well. Who knows, it was just neat to see. 20 tiger barbs in 100 liters is a lot. Much of what you can, or can't do, in this hobby depends on your degree of experience, time, and level of commitment. The filtration, water change schedule, and feeding regimen will also be important factors for success. I fully expected a lot of people to say, "that's too many tiger barbs in that tank!" There are so many factors to consider that will determine if it will work. I don't think a newbie could do it, and I didn't want a beginner to try and then become disappointed and quit the hobby, or harm the fish.

As far as I know, the balloon style fish are genetic mistakes / abnormalities. In my opinion, they don't look right, and they don't swim naturally. Many people like how they look, but they're not for me. But don't let that stop you from breeding them if you like the way they look and you can sell them. They're not bad, just not my style. 😁
