@@Scripture-Man The Vulcan scenes in The Search for Spock and TMP are my first thought - all the Vulcan spirituality. Spock's journey through Vejur is another. TOS often had trippy moments - TOS made it clear how vast space is and there have been beings travelling through it vastly longer than us that are like gods compared with humans. The garden planet reminds me of the Shore Leave planet where the dead McCoy was 'repaired'. And the time travel scenes in STIV were pretty surreal in the journey scenes - in the novelisation even more so - just as Jim's journey to the Kelvin timeline was full of visions.

As a 42-year-old grown man who has watched all the old Star Trek series (and still does), I cried. Kirk risked everything in Star Trek III to bring Spock back. He even lost David in the process. Spock meant so much more to him. Spock, being half-human, would have felt immense grief over Jim's death. And then, in the end, they reunited to explore the greatest unknown together. That was more than I ever hoped for. After the end of Picard and the "last mission" of the TNG crew, this had an even bigger emotional impact on me. Otoy achieved the impossible. This felt like the ending to their journey that they truly deserved.

And in that Alt-Verse they find other wreckage of other ships from different time lines... Captain orders the surviving crew to repair the ship using the wreckage found.... Wreckage Bird Of Pray(head section) (motion picture era). Defiant`s of different era`s mainly engine parts some with the crew section blown out. Vulcan engine parts(ring sections). Over the months the ship is rebuilt.... BoP head replacing the front saucer section creating a new bridge, Defiant engines are now under the saucer were the damage is repaired 3 per side. partly intact Defiant`s now resided on shortened pylon's 4 total, Vulcan ring section connect the Defiant`s as structural integrity. The new bridge is converted to defiant technology and the outer hull is now the grey colour of the ship to look less hostile.... Other Technology is used as time passes....

Seeing Shatner sat in the Captain's chair at the recent event at the studios in New York is so bizarre. I truly wonder what it is like for him, he sat in that chair as the iconic Captain Kirk for 3 seasons as a young man and then there he is at 93 on the replica of the bridge sat in that same chair. Imagine if he'd known as he acted on the original set that decades into the future he would be on a replica bridge engaging fans. It's almost like a time travel episode of Trek in itself!

And I'm betting he looked like he belonged there, and that you could see him saddling up one more time.

That's what I'm wishing for, the young versions of these characters look amazing, the earlier videos they did with a young Spock are just stunning. That's what gets me excited. But they keep harping on recreating middle aged pudgy Kirk (he's 60+ in Generations) and very elderly Spock on his death bed, just depresses me. And it's clear to me that recreating an elderly face is still much harder than the younger face, they are not as convincing and the uncanny valley effect emerges.

Honestly better than anything "Trek" since 2009. How much can be said without words. The people involved with this project need to be in charge of Star Trek. Not people like Kurtzman, Abrams, etc. They don't love the series. They just see it as their platform. This project shows how much love and reverence for the source material can do.

I was 15 years old when Generations came out and I was much like you, fighting tears watching it because I know that Shatner wanted to make amends with Nimoy but they never did. Kirk certainly deserved better than to die as a joke of the bridge on the Captain. I miss those days you know.

Careful Mr. Cullen, you sound like I was feeling when I watched this earlier today! Yeah what a stunning piece of work and just perfect! I have watched it a few times already, and pretty sure I am going to be watching it again several more times! 🖖

When I see these images, I'm reminded of a time when TV and film was exciting, fantastical, inspiring, optimistic and had a certain magic. Then I wonder how we ended up with what we have today 😢. I think someone screwed with the timeline.

When I saw this yesterday for the 1st time, I was in total shock. The hair on my arms went up with emotions, and I was watching this in disbelief. When you've been a Trekkie forever, you can't help but have real emotions watching this. Shock to see the production value, to see Kirk, than to see 3 versions of Lork, then Saavik, then Spock. I know cdi and a.i. had a part in this but the emotions it creates is real. A 10 minute movie that's better than so many things out there. Blown away. Makes me love Star Trek even more! Really breathtaking!

What it doesn’t incorporate: 1. Identity politics. 2. Gender ideology. 3. Female empowerment. Which is why it is great. It’s a story that pays respect to the characters and the story only adds more fully to the overall character arc of the character.

What IS the story? I was completely unable to follow what's supposed to be happening? Everyone's crying over it and I honestly have no idea what I just watched. At first I thought it's in the Nexus, but you don't cry over a dream sequence. Someone said Kirk died and he's a ghost in this, but Trek has never done supernatural fantasy so it can't be that. Dave Cullen is saying it's some kind of alternate reality but I don't understand how or why that is happening. I'm a huge Trek fan but just feel really stupid here as I seem to be the only one who can't work out what's happening without dialog.

I was born in 1962 and became a Star Trek fan around 1972. I loved this short. It seemed like the proper farewell between two of the most iconic ST characters in history and the two who formed my love of this universe. It also subtly displays the love between these two men.

This video is a fine example of video, story-telling, character development, and respect to the story, the character, the actors, and especially the fans. Star Trek, in its many iterations, has taken on a life of its own. I can see this as a tribute on many levels. Capping of ST-TOS with Kirk and Spock looking at a sunset together. Shatner having a last official re-union, because they were friends in Real Life, as well as Trek. And the fans because these characters and the real actors behind them have put time and emotion and community, some acting as fans, some taking the perception of ST values into the real-world and helping others. My “take” is that Mitchell in “god-mode” is watching his friend Kirk in the expanse. And Kirk goes to see his long-time friend Spock at the end of Spock’s time. Kirk meets others having an impact, minor and large characters. Kirk meets himself at various times of his life. And then goes to Spock. And they wait in the light of the sunset. The mannerisms, facial expressions take you through the story. It seems to be a goodbye, but the expanse is beyond time and space, and life always has a way of continuing.

All the God Ascended wouldn't really be interested in human affairs anymore - their evolved minds/forms would be traveling all over the universe, after all, or whatever states they advanced to?

I watched it but I kept feeling that something else was missing from all those short films....oh, I know what it is, where is Dr. Leonard H. 'Bones' McCoy (Deforest Kelly)?....he was the third part of the ST trinity after all (and even Spock mind-melded with him in Star Trek II & Bones carried Spock's Katra in Star Trek III). Kirk was the captain (the balance of the two), Spock (was the logic) and 'Bones' (was the passion). All 3 were what made Star Trek. "Damn It Bones, I need you...Badly" Kirk to McCoy - Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Because I had this exact same feeling while watching this, I’ve made it my own personal head canon that Bones just hasn’t died yet… after all, we saw him as an old man in Encounter at Farpoint, and some of the novels show him interacting with Spock, Scotty, the TNG crew and others even during the post-Nemesis timeline, so it’s not unprecedented for him to still just be alive for a lot longer than this… So again, my personal head canon, when Bones finally does die in-universe, both Kirk and Spock are going to show up for him just like Kirk did for Spock here, and the trinity will finally be reunited at last
@kibagami742 ай бұрын
Strongly agree. I just wish these immensely talented people at OTOY would focus on the 1960s/70s era of Trek. It is honestly depressing seeing 'new' scenes of very elderly Spock on his death bed and old pudgy Kirk. Take another look at the earlier videos of ToS & TMP era Spock and it's breathtakingly real looking. I think the young Kirk and Gary Mitchell are the best bits of this new video. I'd love to see Bones back with them....and man will it be amazing when they get the voices to work.
