I think Jen was the last piece that Skillet needed. They hit a new level when they brought her on.
@boberhavok3 жыл бұрын
@@Pianomn626 I agree. Her drumming along with her and John's vocals together just kind of created magic. Jen is my favorite musician altogether. I think she has the most beautiful voice in the industry in my opinion. But I love all her stuff with LEDGER. Plus her music helped me through a dark time. So I may be bias lol.

@@boberhavok The tenor of Jen's voice is very distinctive; it has a smooth strength to it. I'd love to have heard her go old school in a duet with Phil Collins...I feel like the blend between Jen and Phil would be staggering. Imagine her voice in "Separate Lives" with Phil's...
@boberhavok3 жыл бұрын
@@Pianomn626 I feel like Jen's voice could blend in well with anyone. Besides John Cooper she blended well with another Christian artist named TobyMac and she blended well with the group From Ashes to New in there cover if Gravity. The little bits they sing together in the Skillet song Breaking Free Jen blended well with Lacey Strum too. She sounds amazing regardless if she is singing with someone else or alone.

You earned a sub there, man. I've never seen anyone on YT with so much passion for the music and understands music from a musician's point of view. I stopped playing keyboards 20 years ago (which I regret), but I still appreciate great music and others who appreciate it as much as I do. Great reaction!
@THEDavidHeretic4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words Chris I really appreciate them. Really glad you enjoyed the show, hope you check out some of the other shows on this channel. I understand you stopped playing keys 20 years ago, but here's the thing about instruments....they're like bikes. If you learned how to play them once before, you can pick it up again. Yeah it's gonna take some work, but not nearly as much work as it took when you were learning. You just gotta get the muscle memory and the feels back into your fingers. The good news is, you still have time. There's literally nothing stopping you from picking it up again. Totally up to you obviously, personally I'd love to hear that you got inspired by something and decided to get back into it again.
@Pianomn6264 жыл бұрын
Bro, I've played for 40 years now. Started on piano, switched to a keyboard focus (vs piano) about 25 years ago. It's a joy and a challenge. I truly don't believe there is a more complex part to play in most bands than keys; between layers, patches, effects, tones, and notes. I always tell people I have two parts to play; first, I have to play my parts flawlessly (which, of course, ALWAYS happens :-P ); second, I have to cover the mistakes that every other member of the band is making because oftentimes the keyboard player is the only true musician in the band :-P Get back out there, man! You can take the keys away from you hands, but never out of your soul!

That guitar tone is absolutely awesome! I don’t know what they use in the studio but for live it’s a dual rectifier and a PRS archon 50 (with the bright switch on) running at the same time on Seth’s side, and for Korey it’s a dual rectifier and a Marshall MK2!
@THEDavidHeretic2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely got the thickness of a dual rectifier, and the harmonic sensitivity.

I enjoyed the breakdown of the music. What's really interesting about this song is that, in some parts of it, the drum beat almost...ALMOST feels like a shuffle, a rocked-up version of a shuffle beat; notably the verses and the bridge. It's interesting how Skillet on the Victorious album used more post-production than they have in the past. This song is phenomenal.
@THEDavidHeretic4 жыл бұрын
Yeah there's a lot of post-production done, but it was done tastefully. I hate it when albums are SOOOOOO overly produced the instruments all start sounding Pro-Tooled and digital.
@Pianomn6264 жыл бұрын
@@THEDavidHeretic Absolutely agreed. I'm going to guess based on the grey hair (no offense! I have more than you do!) that we are close to the same age. I majored in music education originally so I've been through all the training, theory, etc, and played for 40 years. Over production, autotune, and the digitization of music, while originally a great TOOL, has become the majority of most music and it's leaving true musicianship out in the cold. I saw Skillet for the first time only about 3 years ago. I was not a metal guy- I'm more into prog rock (show me the KEYBOARDS!)- and I was not familiar with ANY of Skillet's work. By the third song in the set I was really impressed. After the concert I bought four albums and have seen them several times since. If they are metal, I'd call it either an evolved metal or "adult" metal. Since the addition of Jen, their sound has rounded, become more diverse, mature, but still staying true to their roots. Their last album featured more production than the previous ones, but like this song it was tastefully done and used as an ACCENT to the music rather than as the whole song. I enjoyed your breakdown, by the way. You are definitely someone I'd love to sit and have a beer and talk "shop" with.

MesozoicLad new account! I am here to review LEGENDARY!! Legendary for me gets a mid S ranking, holy heck. This is number 8 in my Skillet songs, and for GOOD REASON. There is not a single part in this song where the epicness drops. The intro, the part where you said “WHOA!”, is one of the best riffs of Skillet, period. The heavy slam, followed by several shreddy strings reminds me of Feel Invincible. The guitar in the verses are just as good, if not a little less awesome. But skipping ahead, the CHORUS. THE CHORUS SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL. That guitar sounds so heavy and powerful, it’s fast sounding and I love it, those drums are going with it too! I especially loved the layout before the title of the song was said. The chorus of Legendary is seriously a call to arms. And that BREAKDOWN. Talk about heavy. Talk about strong. Talk about Jen Ledger is carrying. And the fact that John and Jen are singing together at that moment.. oh yeah vocals. This is one of the strongest I’ve heard John. That “OH!” is pure power. (TBC)
