I was there, this was the only song he was on the drums. Thankfully because i love Volbeat's "real" drummer.

props for having the guts to call out Lars like that David, a lot of people would simply have glossed over that and not called him out purely for the fact that he's a legend in the scene and inevitably there will be a lot of angry comments about it. For that, you have my respect sir.

Someone tried to say Meg White is the "worst drummer ever" and I said "Lars Ulrich" and his response was "c'mon man". I have never heard Meg White ruin a performance.

I've heard one other person say it in a reaction (incidentally, for Volbeat's cover of Don't Tread On Me).

Apologies for the frustration, David. To maybe assuage that a bit, you have seen a live performance from Volbeat before; it was Lola Montez, and I think it got a 7.8, granted that was before the tougher scoring. And there are still two more live ones I requested from them. In this case, I guess I could've requested the studio version. I figured the live aspect could help the score, if only slightly. 😅I knew the drumming wasn't as tight, but it didn't stick out as much as it did for you. And that's understandable, especially since you're used to being part of a rhythm section. Oh, and they also played a shortened version of Enter Sandman with Lars, but yeah, there'd be no need to request that one.

Most of their live performances are good so i wouldn't not recommend them it just depends on the version

I have a question. I learned that keeping tempo is basically a bassist work from you, so do you think that drummers who are unstable in tempo, just like Lars, ignore their bassists? How much can a bassist control the tempo?
@THEDavidHeretic
@THEDavidHeretic 4 ай бұрын
Not just ignoring the bassist, but ignoring the click as well. If the band allows the bassist to do his/her job, then the bassist can control the tempo. However, if there's a click going through everyone's IEMs, then the click dictates the tempo and everyone would need to follow the click.

Lars played two songs! This song, and one of Metallicas songs! It's live, it doesn't have to be perfect!
@THEDavidHeretic
@THEDavidHeretic 4 ай бұрын
I'm not asking for perfection....I'm just asking for steady, consistent time. Especially with a click going through the IEMs like he should have. I know high school kids that can play with consistent and steady time better than this.

@@THEDavidHeretic I was to the concert, i met Lars, and he was confused, did not know where to go. Whe he saw i reconiced him, he held a finger to his mouth, so i shouldn't tell anybody anything! I didn't. He is a normalt man, down n earth. He was nervous 😀

Interesting. I just played the original song out of curiosity due to your comments. Nah brother tempo is ok for a live session when you just go to have fun. Your first comment about this was after a few mins into the song and there is not much to look out here. I have the feeling you read someone talking about it and you just went with the train as usual with lars. This song offers nothing to any drummer. Neither the music by itself. So anybody can play this thing and it will sound just like the studio version. You guys need to grab an instrument and play anything live one day.

I'd feel bad for Voltbeat, but I mean, they did ask Lars to perform. I feel way worse for fans that paid to see Voltbeat, and got Voltcantholdabeat
