The guy singing here is an Australian professional wrestler Richard Magarey. In October 2013 he moved to Tokyo and later formed the band with singers Rie Kaneko and Rei Kuromiya, and released their first track and music video titled "Nippon Manju" - so the song you watched here was their first ever official release. Richard left the group 3 years later, the group reformed and worked with a different line up, the one you saw in your first Ladybaby reaction. Ladybaby suspended all activities on January 13, 2020, after their final show, then later in december 2023 they started again with a completely new lineup.

My first introduction to Japanese rock started about half-way through 2016. I wasn't really looking for Japanese music as such. I saw a link to the Kirsten Dunst cover of the song "Turning Japanese". I remembered the Vapors version of that back in the day, and thought I'd give the Kirsten Dunst cover an ogle. (or three) Mean time the page sent me a number of other curious links. The next four links I took were Catch Me If You Can (Baby Metal), Chocolate (Baby Metal), Thrill (Band Maid) and Nippon Manju (LadyBaby). Needless to say, I was a bit confused and disconcerted. I've wandered right into the one of the weird parts of the internet. I didn't go back to any Japanese rock for about a year and a half. The old guys from Ningen Isu were safer viewing for an old fart like myself. I eventually did get over the initial shock.

I think this MV is designed to elicit exactly this kind of reaction. The initial concept of LADYBABY is to break down all preconceived notions and boundaries. Changes in the group's lineup and musical style are just part of that. While it might seem similar to BABYMETAL, the differences are what make it interesting. "Reactors find it hard to focus on the music while watching the MV" is something I always think. MVs are always designed to grab your attention. Moreover, most MVs are widely dictated by the record company. The visuals don't really matter when it comes to musical reactions.

That might be the spin, but in reality it's the record company going "Hmm.. what's going on here.. we like how many views this Nippon Manju video has.. but what's with this weird giant 5 year old girl with the beard? Let's lose him, and get some more cute girls in" It's like when people justify the entire band for Ghost being swapped out in 2017 because "oh they were always meant to be anonymous so they could do this.. they don't matter. Who was on guitar, GHOUL! Who is on guitar now, GHOUL!" - where as in reality, the characters on stage might not matter, but the musicians sure do

HAHA! Great reaction. The confusion is understandable. Others have posted the lineup details, so I won't rehash those. LadyBeard is very interesting. I've watched a few interviews with him and he's an entertainer through and through. He was a part of Deadlift Lolita for a while with another female wrestler. He now has another group called BabyBeard. Which also features him and 2 ladies. They just did a show in Georgia (at an anime convention) over the weekend. He's an odd duck for sure but seems to be very genuine and driven. Sorry for the paragraph.

This is the very first song of Ladybaby. It was originally only supposed to be a commercial for traveling to Japan. For that the 2 idols Rei und Rie were hired along with the Australian wrestler Richard Magarey with the stage name Ladybeard. This is pretty much the standard wrestling outfit for Ladybeard and you can see him wrestling in it on KZbin. After the surprising success of this song, Ladybaby did several more songs with these 3 singers. They even did a small US tour once. Later, Richard Magarey had to leave the group because of 'reasons' (some say that the company did not prolong his visa), so for a while it was only Rei and Rie doing songs under the name 'The band formerly known as Ladybaby'. Then Rei left and Rie put together the band again with 3 new girls again under the name of Ladybaby which is the setup you reacted to. She is the only one that you may have recognized from your first video.

Rei Kuromiya, one of the girls here and a founding member, smartly left to form BRATS with her sister Aya. They were great but unfortunately are now also defunct. Tuned in the get the unwashed David reaction ;) . To say this is an acquired taste is a real understatement. Today's Ladybaby is totally different from this.

This is the original Ladybaby and the first song they did. The guy doing the grit and growl is Richard Magarey, aka Ladybeard, an Australian pro wrestler.

This was the first incarnation of LadyBaby. After Richard (Ladybeard) left, they went on hiatus for a short time, then returned as an all-female four-piece. When they returned as a four-piece, only the girl in the blue dress remained of the original trio, all the others were new. This song was basically an ad for Japanese tourism, and most particularly the various foods of Japan.
@krauser38854 ай бұрын
Everyone has already filled you with basically all the information you asked for. Part of me wishes this was your introduction to Japanese music on the channel because as great as "Lovebites - Holy War" was, reacting to this at that time would have been even more of a riot than now, with all the "crazy" stuff you've already see from Japan.

That was the original Ladybaby and for us as BRATS fans the best Ladybaby with the wonderful Rei Kuromiya. There are other funny music videos in this band composition that are worth watching. If you want to see Rei Kuromiya (the black-haired girl) with her rock band BRATS, and are interested in experimental music, we recommend their song "Spiderweb", if you prefer classic rock music, their song for the film Slavemen "Nounai Shoukyo Game" is too recommend. Another small note: It was a bit annoying that the sound and image from the music video were delayed in time.

So the guy is called Ladybeard, and is a pretty funny guy! He got interviewed by several channels and several reactors, and told his story: first time he crossdressed during a party as a joke, and he got such a funny answer from everyone that he decided to make it his thing! This Nippon Manju went viral, and this first iteraction of LadyBaby is a clothing company that tried to use Babymetal rise in popularity to make a successful band. AFter he was kinda force to leave Ladybaby due to visa Issues, Ladybeard founded a new group with 2 other girls wrestlers called "Deadlift Lolita", and after that he is currently in a project called BabyBeard, that's kind of a copy of this early Ladybaby. But I don't like his screams anymore: it sounds like his voice was ruined a bit

As mentioned before, the dude is known as Ladybeard. He's an Australian professional wrestler who wrestled in the Japanese circuit. Cross dressing was his thing.

I'm just sayin, I think Baby beard is a comedian of some sort, only in Japan this can happen. I never really liked groups that sing & shout to someone else's music compilations but it does have some sort of entertainment value outside of the more traditional rock group with 3-5 dudes who play their own instruments. This is why I say views & subscribers do not really matter that much. Pop music uses Sex to sell millions of albums using music they don't usually write. I prefer the Hanabie approach to their music way more than the Artist dancing to the song approach seen here.

hah, I knew this would be a fun one :D It's a shame the A/V sync is messed up on the video insert on your uploads this week This is the *first* song of LADYBABY (2015) and this is the *original* LADYBABY incarnation - along with DEATH RABBITS they are one of the first projects to follow BABYMETAL and try to do kawaii-metal But the record company never really understood why this music video went viral, and stupidly decided to fire the youngest girl here (LADYBEARD, the 5 year old in the middle with the beard). The other two girls are Rie (17 at the time with lighter hair) and Rei (14 with darker hair) Rei left LADYBABY and formed her own band called BRATS - more of a rock band with playing their own instruments, they're pretty cool LADYBEARD tried a few different projects: Wanchans, Deadlift Lolita (duo with a female wrestler) but has finally settled on a new project in the style of the original LADYBABY, called BABYBEARD. He's got 2 new girls and they're excellent actually Rie stayed with LADYBABY's evolution and the record company brought in new girls and they became a more standard idol type project with her leading and Emiri brought in to do the death voice - but keeping the heavy sound. This is the era you saw previously, with "Starless Sky" (2018). They disbanded after a big final concert a few years back, just before the pandemic Within the last year, Rei and Rie have reunited to form a new project called REIRIE - they've put out some nice music videos so far In Nippon Manju you have famous Japanese guitarist ROLLY playing the solo. He was in the classic horror film Suicide Circle and is also on TV/youtube show Rock Fujiyama with Marty Friedman all the time. At the time this came out the band also listed the guy on keyboards, the brief shots of a random woman in the towel and even a DOG as band members 😂.. but nothing more was seen of them in the videos The record company within the last year has brought back from the dead the LADYBABY name again in a completely new project - there was a big recruitment drive to get in a load of new idol girls to perform for them. But I think one girl left the band already since then. Like I said BABYBEARD and REIRIE are definitely the true successor projects to this original incarnation of LADYBABY, with BABYBEARD being pretty much exactly the same style I got to see BABYBEARD live in Switzerland about a year ago, they came to play at an anime convention called Polymanga, so I went along just for the performance. It was hilarious lol. They played LADYBABY's Nippon Manju and their new BABYBEARD songs.. and even added in a great cover of BABYMETAL's Papaya! and halfway through the gig the performance broke out into a wrestling match that went all over the audience 😂LADYBEARD even stroked my beard and went "Mmmm beard!" and I had a wrestler thrown into me at one point. Good times, man
