For me, Milo's main problem is that he's just so utterly boring (though his fans seem to find him edgy). Sam Harris had it right when he described him as "trolling all of humanity" - it's all a performance, and it gets old quickly. If you read transcripts of what he says, rather than just listening to him, it becomes clear how much of a lightweight he is. Take out everything he says for shock-value and what's left? He's not particularly good at debating, regardless of what his disciples believe. Was it a surprise to anyone when he chose to support fellow empty vessel Donald Trump so enthusiastically? The only positive thing I can say is that this interview is better than most of his more recent performances.

Good observation of Milo, Tommy! Take away the appearance (hair and clothes), the "as a gay man" proclamation, the British public school' accent (I'm not convinced it's not contrived...), and the "salty, fruity" expressions; paring away audio and visual 'props', to just reading transcripts of Milo's interviews, DOES expose him as an intellectual lightweight, attempting to deliver a monotone message that relies heavily on shock value and cheap sensationalism. He's actually a Johnny 'one note', not very original, and his routine gets old and boring very quickly.

It was not JUST gamergate. It was pretty much the rise/resurgence of mainstream feminist critique. People did not like the increased scrutiny towards popular culture (I guess you can argue 'white masculinity" ) ...Gamergate was just a part of that flood. The alt-right cultivated this current of anger at feminism.. It is VERY telling that certain youtubers had a very easy transition from harping on feminism to discussing the 'merits' of race realism. It's also telling that it was fairly easy for their audiences to accept the racial stuff after feminism was a bit of a 'testing ground' I am not saying that the 'SJW's have acted all in good faith, of course not. I am just saying that it is wrong to deny the backlash against feminism was extreme .

Alt right was around before GG. They called themselves the Dark Enlightenment or NeoReaction or NRx. Some joined the Alt-Right not knowing who these previous groups were. In the last year many have tried to distance themselves from the Alt-Right once they released who they were associating themselves with. The dark enlightenment is more dangerous than the Alt-Right. Alt-right say they value american/european western culture. NRx want to remove democracy because Americans won't vote for libertarian parties or policies. They want to build fiefdoms without laws and states where even white people would be slaves to a sole business.

Then when game's journalists and developers realized their scam was under threat they threw up a smokescreen saying they were being harassed and COMPLETELY IGNORED THE CRITICISM OF CORRUPT JOURNALISM. Whether or not people were actually being harassed like they said is up for debate to begin with, but even if they were that doesn't excuse the corruption. They completely succeeded in getting coverage from mainstream news outlets to almost exclusively cover the harassment while saying as little as possible about the actual scandal. The majority of the people with power talking about the controversy cared nothing about games as an art form. Saying the alt-right came out of gamergate is idiotic. The alt right is a reaction to the extreme left. You can't fucking pin right-wing political ideology on gamers who actually care about games you fucking assholes. You'd been having that squabble for years with the left becoming progressively more insulated and irrational and an equally fanatical reaction on the right was the obvious logical conclusion to that regardless of fucking gamers. And you know what. If some gamers did see how the left acted with the gamergate controversy then it's pretty understandable why they'd run to the right. Both sides are full of shitheads, but punching down on gamers because you think they're soft targets and useful for furthering your political ideology isn't going to win you any fucking friends with them. The politics should have been left out of gamergate and people who love video games would've been able to make headway towards fixing something that has been KNOWN to be a problem within the gaming community for over a decade. First, off John Hopkins did not pioneer gender affirmation care, which is what medicine calls the type of treatment that is done for a person who is born transgender. Medically transitioning started, and was being pioneered all the way back in the mid-1920's. The Danish Girl, Lili Elbe's story shows just how far back medical transition, and gender affirming care goes. When John Hopkins shut down Dr.Stanley Biber in Trinidad, Colorado took over, and he is the doctor who really pioneered modern SRS for male to females. He's the doctor who created the kind of SRS results in male to females that modern medicine is accustomed to. What's really interesting is that when he went to do his first SRS procedure on a male to female he asked for all the surgical records that John Hopkins had on how to go about this procedure. He found that they weren't actually even doing SRS. They were doing castrations, or penile amputations, which is not SRS in the sense that we think of it today, nor is it the kind of SRS that was being practiced by Dr.Georges Burou, and other surgeons like the ones in Denmark who did Christine Jorgensen's SRS in 1950. So If you don't know her she became famous because she was outed in 1950 with the headline male G.I. becomes blonde bombshell upon her return to the US. Secondly, the type of therapy Milo is describing sounds an awful lot like conversion eparative therapy, which is something that has failed to "cure" any transgender, gay, or bisexual person. Worse instead of helping it does much more harm, than if the person had just not sought out any kind of treatment. Regardless there was a time all around the world where until the 1960's -70's the only way that a transgender person could find there way to gender affirming care would be through many different contacts because for a long time SRS was done in Casablanca believe it or not by D r.Georges Burou , and other far away places like Denmark, Germany, or the UK. If you were a transgender person who was not tightly into the LGBT underground at that time, then it would have been sheer luck for that person to find any real, or good information on transsexualism as it was called at the time, and it was even harder to find doctors, and mental health providers who would treat a transgender person with gender affirming care as opposed. In the US starting around 1950 Dr.Harry Benjamin began to look at, study, and help transgender people with gender affirming care, but he was pretty much it aside from Dr.John Money. Most would be very unlucky, and either be forced against their will into treatments for this "mental illness" that they don't have, and others would volunteer for it because they either truly believed they were mentally ill, or they didn't know about gender affirming care, or they felt going through with gender affirming care would ruin their lives (better to have a miserable life, and be unhappy, than to risk being shunned, rejected, and ostracized by society, and their family, and friends if they were to go through with gender affirming care), or they just wanted to be "normal" like everyone else. This ended just as badly for transgender people as it did for gays because both were essentially treated the same way by the larger mental healthy community as a whole at that time. Being gay only stopped being classified as a mental illness in 1978, and I believe it wasn't fully removed from the mental health literature until the 1980's. The same fight, and arguments then to have being gay removed as a mental illness are at the heart of the argument why being transgender is not a mental illness, or disorder. That is outside of how society treats gay people they are otherwise completely mentally healthy, and sane. Any distress that a gay person feels about it is because it's being pathologized, and when society is constantly telling you how horrible you are, and how crazy you are, and that you are a degenerate pervert combined with losing family, friends, jobs, housing, and the physical and sexual violence will cause a person distress. The argument that they had, and I believe rightly so is that it's only a mental illness\disorder if being gay, or if being transgender causes the person distress. Distress would be things like experiencing depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation. Since that was not the case for gay people it was determined that no it's not a mental illness\disorder. There is nothing to treat other than the distress that being gay causes on a person living in a society that isn't tolerant, accepting, and or understanding of it. This is also true for transgender people, and is why in 2013 the diagnosis of gender identity disorder\GID was removed from the DSM-5. It was replaced with gender dysphoria because a transgender person can feel distress around being transgender. However, for most transgender people gender dysphoria goes away over time with gender affirming care, and if it doesn't it gets much better, and is manageable. If a transgender person is not suffering from distress, or not suffering from it anymore, then there is nothing there for mental health providers to help with anymore other than distress related to society, and how it treats transgender people. Studies have found that transgender people who have a strong support network of family, and friends have depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation rates that are similar to the general population. And this is why I said it's essentially the same argument as to the reason why being gay was was removed from all the mental health literature as a mental illness. Because we can see that when transgender people are in an environment where they aren't being negatively crushed by society we see that they have similar rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation as the general population. However, in reality the statistics for transgender people in the US especially trans women of color I think do an excellent job of showing why we see such high numbers of depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation in transgender people. It's important to note that the depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation rates for gay people in the US are also higher than the general populations. Nothing like transgender people, but also still higher than heterosexual people. In the US homophobia still very much exists, and with some very negative consequences for gay people. However, no one today would suggest that this is proof that it's a mental illness, or disorder.

So sorry for the long post I just get so frustrated with these right wing talking points, and the right wing has done a great job of pumping out tons of misinformation. Thirdly, there is 1 reason, and only 1 reason why John Hopkins shut down their gender clinic in 1979 that Dr.John Money had started around 1965ish. Dr.Paul Mchugh is the 1 reason, and the sole force behind shutting down the gender clinic. He had been on record many times prior to him becoming head of psychiatry that the very first thing he was going to do was prioritize shutting down the abonamitions that were taking place in the gender clinic. He was ardently anti-LGBT, and very public in his opinions, beliefs, and views on all of it, and they were based not in science, but in religion specifically Catholicism. Dr.Paul Mchugh is a die hard Catholic who has been furious about the new Pope's personal feelings about LGBT people, and God today. So should come as a surprise to anyone that he shut down the gender clinic for religous reasons atural law reasons rather than it being based on science, and data. Finally, he became head of psychiatry for John Hopkins around 1976ish, and within 2 years had found a study that he oversaw that confirmed to him that gender affirming care especially medical gender affirming care does not help, in fact, it may make things worse. This study wasn't even out 1 year before it was lambasted by the scientific community for it's methodology, flaws, and shoddy work as a result it wasn't ever peer reviewed. In fact, it was ridiculed as bad science a year after being published by the scientific community at the time. Which is why it's so frustrating when right wingers talk about this study from John Hopkins as evidence for their views. However, at that point it was too late. He had achieved what he wanted with the "study" by convincing everyone that this study proved what he had been saying, and they shut the gender clinic down. Now John Hopkins has distanced themselves greatly from Dr.Paul Mchugh, and that ugly part of their past. They have publicly said that Dr.Paul Mchugh's views, and what he writes does not represent them, or what their views on gender affirmation care. This Milo is the actual history, and facts surrounding transgenderism as a mental illness, and this absurd, and factually incorrect idea that John Hopkins pioneered SRS, and gender affirming care.

David deserves to be FAR bigger than he already is-the way he conducts his interviews are great, I really enjoy how rather than let Milo react to the reasonings for her not giving the interview he asks him to take it point by point. David is thorough and I think that's greatly lacking-too many interviewers and people who give commentary like Pakman does would rather appeal to emotion more than reason, David does things the other way round. It's always interesting to watch his vids but especially his interviews Edit-I have to make this clear, John Hopkins resumed transition surgery in 2016 after 40yrs of not performing it. So Milo using Hopkins as a basis for not performing surgery even back when he did the interview and Hopkins hadn't resumed surgery is flawed because of how long ago the clinic stopped surgery. There is a few articles about John Hopkins and why they stopped and now resumed surgery-people should check them out of just to see how dishonest milo is

As a gamer and a budding game developer, I am utterly disgusted by Gamer gate. I hate that the gaming culture I love is so misogynistic. My female gaming friends have shown me what they have to endure on a daily basis, just because their avatar or gaming ID looks or sounds female. My mission as a game developer (and a general software developer, as well) is to include as many people as possible. If Gamer gate started with an ounce of important discussion material, it was lost long ago in the flood of misogyny and racism. About transsexuals: Milo is homosexual. I'm a girl... I was extremely confused when gamergate happened. When I was a kid, my indian parents banned me from not just owning a video game but also playing it on others computers / consoles. I didn't even have a Gameboy. My parents wanted me to use computers just for studies. When I grew up, now that I make a bit of money, I don't have the time and money for it. Moreover, the amount of pandering towards male teenagers is extreme and pushes me away. Yes, I used to play mobile games like candy crush and temple run, but those were only games that were not so explicitly dismissive of women. The day I stood up on my own legs, I promised myself that when I have a kid, the kid will not be treated as unreasonably as I was. But I don't think if this culture continues my future daughter would want tu o play video games. I am a very non feminine woman. Most of the entertainment I consume is what a guy would like. And if I can't like / get with the games men play, I don't know which woman will. And I don't know why having a bit of equality would hurt them so much. I understand Anita took a giant shit on the whole thing, but it was all unnecessary.

I hate that Milo was the kind of person who became the face of Gamergate because they dragged the whole image to the right. The original purpose was a backlash to journalistic corruption. Equally I hate that the culprits were able to successfully demonise it by making it about sexism because that's what attracted people like Milo.
