That is not easy. Republicans are very aware that they rely on the electoral college to be competitive in presidential races. Most of the US population is in cities and tends to be coastal, so the electoral college was supposed to help rural people have more of a say. It is literally designed to give the less popular party an advantage. That's why a Democrat can win by 3 million votes and still lose.

We can't, not just because it would require a lot of the gov to agree to it, but especially so because it would mean one party will basically almost never win any office ever again, or at least not for a long time. No repub has won the pres popular vote in many, many decades. If I'm not mistaken, it's been since Nixon 60 years ago. So the Repub party would never, never agree to changing the system. Yet another way our system is internally messed up on all levels.

I've gone through similar, up here in Canada, sometimes getting stuck with areas where your candidate has no chance. .....long, snowmobile rides over the tundra, going igloo to igloo with your seal-skin campaign signs... Sorry, Susie, I zoned out there... it's these damn blizzards! Actually, I live in Vancouver. Campaigning is tough, but I'll tell you what: people see that, and they know how thankless it is. But they respect your commitment and sometimes, they think, wow, this guy is really dedicated to this candidate--- maybe I'll have a look at his literature and then, who knows? Either way, you end up meeting good people. If you have a few hours, I really suggest giving canvassing a try. And if you win, you feel like a superstar! If you lose, well at least you tried and became part of DEMOCRACY! Good luck, people! GO BLUE!!!

I remember exactly where I was standing and what I was doing on the day Trump made fun of the disabled reporter. My grandson and I were talking and joking when we heard it, and it stopped us both cold. I knew we were in big trouble, and that's exactly what I said to him. People look to their leaders to see how to behave. Our parents, teachers, or leaders. I already knew he was racist from the lawsuits in NYC. But we both absolutely knew it would be the LGBTQ community that would be next and the most vilified. He spreads outrageous lies, corruption, and hate everywhere he goes.
