I was an air traffic controller at Houston Center, and coincidentally the Lufkin specialty, we controlled all the way from over Houston to the north up to about Tyler and Nacogdoches, and most of south Louisiana all the way to the Mississippi river, to Natchez. We controlled Angelina County airport traffic in Lufkin, Never been there... driven around it on US59 on my way to Kentucky to visit my parents. So I appreciate this video. And Chick-o-Sticks rock, I've had a few, LOL.

@@keithbrown9198 off-topic does Angelina county Airport not have ATC anymore? I think they did for a brief time a long time ago.
@keithbrown9198Ай бұрын
@@HollywoodConnection-jast I've been retired for 11 years now, so I had to check the sectional to make sure, but no, still uncontrolled. While I was working that airspace they had a large golf tournament and had a temporary tower, but we still had no radar coverage, so it was a challenge to be sure. It wasn't a very busy airport otherwise, most aircraft would just come and go VFR, we only had a few repeat IFR customers. There was a Beech Baron and I think a Beech Bonanza would often fly out and back to Burnet, TX (KBMQ), which coincidentally, I now live nearby.

Nice video, makes me miss home lol. Especially loved seeing Lufkin BBQ and Ray's, grew up eating both, my dad was actually a fairly well known guy for Lufkin before he passed away in 2009, he was known as the Kirby man, he and my granpa owned/ran the local Kirby Co. vacuum cleaner shop downtown near the fire station, so anyone local thats been there for year will maybe remember that place. It closed awhile ago after he passed because he held it together, and the main reason I left Lufkin, though I love to visit for some of the restaurants I grew up eating with him, especially Ray's. I also ate a lot of Lufkin BBQ with him, not sure if its still there or good, but Chen's was a favorite of ours, he always got General George's chicken. Also, I think you should try and feature La Unica's, either the sit down restaurant or the Express, because they have some of the best al pastor and other Mexican food in Texas, and I used to live in San Antonio, so I've had some amazing Mexican food there. Thanks for a nostalgic time.
