It’s a little different, because he’s pretty far from normal. People weren’t worried that he’d just have other interests, people were worried he’d get bored of the NBA , and ditch basketball to go work for NASA, which, when you look at what he’s done in academia since coming into the league, wasn’t too crazy of a concern, even if it’s been proven to not have been an issue.
