I had some comments about a voltage being present on the iron tip, I had forgotten to check for the tip being earthed and sure enough I am seeing around 90VAC with between 80uA-200uA of current to earth. So I just pulled the unit apart and find out why and fixed the problem, I recorded footage so I will show this in a future video about the issue, it was a VERY EASY fix, and actually makes me wonder if it was a mistake made during manufacture, you will see what I mean when I publish the followup video.

observe what happens with the temperature if you try soldering something that is also earthed

Really good review. It's gotten so soldering stations are super capable and inexpensive. Old loyalties have to be reconsidered if you want bang for the buck. Seems as if you have a station that you are unhappy with in some way it is no problem because there will be a newer less costly alternative on the market next year. I certainly like this station and would consider it if I needed an upgrade to the stuff that I'm currently using. For us home-gamers we really don't need stuff this fancy. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated.

I would like to see you do some reviews on the irons that you already have working, on your bench, especially if they're older than a year. Tell us how well they've held up, especially the tips and heaters. Also, let us know how easy the tips can be replaced, especially after long use. Your desoldering iron would be one of great interest, as I'm thinking of purchasing one like it, myself. It's getting hard to find consumables for my old Ungar desoldering stations.

hello defpom. The benefit of a minimal temperature sleep is to prevent brutal rising heat to a̶v̶o̶i̶d reach temperature setpoint. The brutal heat rising provocate quick dilatation of internal material, inducing thermal dilatation stress, tip and heating element included, and shorten the life scale of the tip. This is why a hot sleep can be savior for the soldering iron.
@IanScottJohnston13 күн бұрын
Genuine JBC stations have sleep as well as hibernate modes for this reason. I think I have sleep set to 100degC and hibernate set to turn heating is off completely.

Seems like this station has the same problem that many other cheap ones: the displayed temperature is not always the actual temp. When it reaches the set point, it starts to display the set point instead of the actual temp. Can be seen when the temp doesn't change at all when you soldered a board with it.

I like the brass tip cleaner. I have something similar on my ancient APC vacuum desoldering station. Since you have one, I will assume the brass tip cleaner is available online. Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎅🤶.

Measure the voltage between PE and the tip, using a digital multimeter, ideally a bench meter with high-impedance inputs. There are reports that the tip reaches voltages approaching 100V, easily capable of zapping components.
@TheDefpom7 күн бұрын
Yes I did forget to check for that, you are right there was 90VAC on there, at about 80uA -200uA of current, I just recorded a video on how to fix that problem 🙂

Another great review.. One thing I would like to see if the cables can be burned by the tip or they used heat resistant silicon. Both on the pencil and the sleep cable.
@AIexanderHartdegen12 күн бұрын
no they can stand heat. The station cost is about 150 dollars min and at this range of price, it perfectly works fine. Also, when you look at cable and handle quality, they withstand heat nicely.

Dear God, the beeping. Best investment ever was a microwave that allowed for muting of key beeps. I definitely am opposite your preference of having beep feedback unless it is something you cant immediately tell if the. Key press "took". Lot of effort to review a JBC station knockoff, then "calibrate" with hakko tip tester knockoff.

I have this soldering station for few months and its crap, that power is just on input not on output, that "calibrations" are very bad, it looks like that tips has no temperature sensor. two from three tips f210 disentegrated after few uses. Cheap chinese t12 are better than this. Very disappointed from this soldering station.
