I love watching your repair videos even more than the mailbag videos. I like the new format (separate channels for different subjects." Thank you for posting!

That's a great fix! Keep those 1992's humming for another 20 years.

EXCELLENT! Nice repair, Scott. Nice to see that counter back in service. If you search for "slotted round nut tool" you will find the tool you are looking for. Also, a razor saw is an excellent tool for cutting plastic and soft metal parts like that IC socket. Thank you for an interesting video, David

I did this switch repair last year on mine. Like someone else mentioned, let the ocxo warm up for about 3 days to stabilize. Also, there is a trick in the service manual to get a 10 second gate time, and get another digit of resolution when you calibrate. I use a gpsdo as a reference for mine, since rubidiums are getting harder to get.

A very useful video for Racal 199X counter owners with faulty panel switches but what would have made it much more useful is if you had pointed to a source of suitable replacement switches, type, dimensions, pin configuration, manufacturers part number, retailers part number etc etc in fact anything to take the guess work out of it.

I did in some other repairs on these counters, but they are hard to find, the source I got mine from vanished and I can’t get them anymore.

De-stuffing tool [or destuffing repair tool] seems to be a good search engine description too

Would you please provide with a fresh link for dipswitches. It seems the link in the description is expired.

GPIB would help here, you could leave them running overnight and log the results including changes to ambient temps.

Yeah I really need to find the time to play with GPIB... I have all the cables/adaptors!

Well done, it is a pain in the bum to fix the switch problem :-( i have a racal that has less buttons/features the 1998, but it works ok. It has the same dodgy diaphrams, i bodged them a looooong time ago lol. One day... i'm not holding my breath, may do the job, i did say "may" :-D The ovan was ill when i got it, it was way off and could not be adjusted. On opening up the ovan, a well cooked board and falling apart/cooked foam fell out. I did replace a cooked npo xtal shunt cap and then it became usable, but it drifted if you staired at it hard :-D The communication board held up the start up for ages while looking for a non existant external computer, so that was switched of to stop me going madder :).

That tool is known as a pin spanner or pin wrench I believe.
