I’m kind of done with fnirsi in general. All of their products seem nice from a glance but when you actually start using it, it’s almost always disappointing. Also I’ve had stuff from them die suddenly for no reason. I won’t buy this brand ever again.

I know there will always be more people against cheaper products. For myself, I have to buy what I can afford. This is nothing to do with my official job title as an Electrical Protection Senior Adviser. However, being the last person with limited electronic card repairs for 6 x 618MW coal fired power station, I try my utmost best to repair various electronic modules after hours and at my own cost. I have just received my LCR-P1 today, and withing 3 minutes after I opened 3 times 1A to 20mA current transducers from the 80's, I determined that 7 out of 9 16V and 20V zener diodes was faulty. With the op-amps operating above 36V, I did not even have to test them. Replaced the zeners and op-amps in a couple of minutes, and verified the transducer calibration. So yes, I know I can set up my PSU and a resistor connected to my multimeter to test the zeners. But, I only have two calibrated meters, which I would rather connect to the input and output of my test setup, and an al-cheapo for zener testing. A bigger shock might be that I am using the Fnirsi DSO-152 and a Fnirsi x100 probe for 240V switch mode power supply repairs on the +420V DC side. Totally isolated, 2kV rated probe ( handles 450V DC without any issues). No chance of blowing up my more expensive test equipment.

Lower cost test gear has its place, sometimes they can be extremely useful at certain tasks, or as you mention, when you don’t want to risk your decent gear on a risky test.

Since the Peak is so much better, it's too bad that the devs of Peak don't design a new, upgraded device with a nice, full color display, that nice ZIFF socket with the option for SMD as well. Basically, like this FINRSI, but the quality and ability of the Peak. I'd buy that! As it is, I have one of these kinds of devices, but it's old now. It's that very common one in the white case with the ZIF and color screen. It works pretty well. But it didn't have any option for SMD components, so I had to buy another one that has an SMD test pad built on. It works. I'll say this, I do like this FINSRI device's design. I hope that FINRSI listens to customers and provides a firmware update to take care of these issues.

Can't you make your custom own SMD plate that plug in the ZIF (similar to how this one replace the zif, you make one that just use ZIF to communicate to your device)? Just curious if a small fun project could be a replacement to a new device...
@BlondieHappyGuy
@BlondieHappyGuy Ай бұрын
@@BozesanVlad Yeah, I could. But for a couple of reasons, I won't. For one, I do have a different brand that has SMD plates. Secondly, I'd like to get a newer, updated version, that has a firmware update option. But it's has to be good. Also.... I'm lazy! LOL And have enough projects.

I think I'll stick to my LCR-TC2, it does what it needs to, albeit this has a nicer housing but that's about it.

Hi, when my workshop was robbed years ago, I wanted to buy PEAK testers, when I saw the price for CZK, I sweated, I bought the original TC-1 and I am satisfied. TC-1 is not able to decode all remote control systems, the ones that it cannot read and display codes will at least be tested for transmission - a red dot will light up on the display. Nice day 🙂 Tom

The older generic testers work way better then these new Fnirsi ones. I have both units, and from what I understand, the Finirsu uses a different way to read the components than the old generic ones.

It is basically the same instrument I paid $10 for from aliexpress, but in a nicer case with a surface mount adapter. Calibration is done by starting it with 1,2, & 3 shorted together and then separating them when it says. I find my $10 version most useful for identifying unmarked, or mysteriously marked parts. I bought a batch of 20 JFETs from aliexpress. My version IDed them as BJTs and with that phot I got a refund.

@TheDefpom Can you please try testing 20k and 50k Ohm resistors with this unit? I bought this same unit and I get errors of 19% and 8% respectively (using firmware 1.0.5) when compared to my Fluke and Peak component testers.

It tested the LCR-P1 and it is really bad. It seems similar to the TC1 component tester but it is no way near as good. It cannot recognize Schottky Diodes it thinks they are resistors. It can't recognize Thyristors, dual diodes in to220 packages. And the capacitance and ESR is also inaccurate. And it is much slower than my TC1. I emailed FNIRSI several times but they won't respond. Stay away from it.

MOISTET is not a known term in electronics, and it's likely a translation or typographical error in the instructions. Safe to assume MOSFETs.

So, with the infrared read decoder, can that hex number be used, let's say, in an ESP32 project to build a universal remote? I have played with a sketch that can read from a remote and store the codes, which is ok. But it would be so cool if there was a way to be able to configure it just using the codes. Example, on the ESP32, I could put it into "programming mode", give the remote a name, eg. Panasonic Plasma, and then, press, say, the Channel UP on the remote, then enter the code into the "Channel Up" option on the controller. I imagine that this could be done, but I honestly am not sure how to do that. Any ideas?

Not that interested in this one - too much faffing around between modes. Give me the single button model any day. SMDs can be tested with the included leads on the previous devices too.
