We lived in the downstairs apartment of a WW2 German tank guy on the edge of town. I walked to the kaserne each morning but most often took a taxi home in the evenings. We loved it there. I tell folks it only got below freezing one time, but that was from November to March. Doing duty on the border and watching East German farm workers under the watchful eye of their armed guards is a vivid memory.
