Love you democ, but I absolutely hate the fire giant I think he is one of the worst bosses if not the worst in the game, you can’t even see him especially in phase 1. The main boss missing on this list in my opinion is Morgott, he is such a great fight with high pace and high intensity with an amazing OST and one of the deepest lore in the whole game.

I think he could’ve taken Mohg’s place here. Mohg’s bleed move is bullshit and ruins the entire fight. It’s not unbeatable but that mechanic is just cheap for difficulty’s sake, rather than for good, rewarding or fun design IMO. And just because there’s an item that negates it doesn’t mean it is good design

Kinda surprised Margit/Morgot wasn't included. To me he was the early game boss made for humbling veterans and scaring new comers. The amount of attacks he has at his disposal so early on made him a joy to fight imo. They also use him very well throughout the game. The random enemy outside Leyndel that transforms into him was genius. Since we are much stronger, it's a good way of showing the player how far they have come since the beginning of the game, only to then drop Morgott on us at the end of Leyndel. Using the phase 2 Margit's attacks to start off the fight really showed how strong he actually is and that this is the final battle with him going all out. My favorite fight personally (Also the OST slaps)

Margit was an awesome boss for me, however a lot of people felt it was too much of a wall that was too early for new players. Margot’s health bar was too low, making him too easy. Wayyyy too easy. I I only had to use my flask once maybe twice

@@Bennieboy918 I actually agree. It felt like he just did whatever he wanted. It's similar to the problem with Malenia, Blade of Miquela. It felt like he could cancel out of certain animations into really quick attacks you can't reliably dodge. I would say that's more of a problem with the game in general though. A lot of the bosses unfortunately are plagued by RNG

On one hand, it's great for hardened veterans (at least it was for me), but on the other it's a turn off for new fans. I totally agree with Morgott being too easy. I fought him at around level 92 and beat him second try. Regardless I don't think his difficulty changes the enjoyment of that fight very much

I have to agree Margit was so viscerally satisfying beating him on my first playthrough and is still a joy to fight on repeat playthroughs, while Morgott was easily the most fun and dynamic fight I had in the whole game, it's especially fun parrying him. Though I have to agree his health pool is a bit to low

The Radahn nerf mostly about progression. He was far harder than Nokron so most people were very overleveled for Nokron after finally beating him

Which is fair, he felt way too overtuned, for both Caelid and Nokron, only way before the nerf to grind for him was to go to altus plateau and do dungeons, which yes was a strategy, but in terms of progression, altus plateau is supposed to be after caelid.

I love radahns lore and build up but his fight...just didnt click I'm cool with the sommon the allies and fight him with a small army I really respect the idea they used but his moveset just makes him look like a failed circus act, he didnt come across as the "powerful and respected warrior now driven mad " like Artorias, Gael, or even the abyss watchers He just spins around and is constantly running away even when I solo him... so I respect anyone's opinion I'd they enjoy his fight but for me it just was very disappointing

@@notrelatedtobacon1282 I 100% agree with you. His fight is probably the most overrated and he looks ridiculous on his normal-sized horse. I don't get how anybody can think he looks cool. You said it best, he looks like a failed circus act. Also, fuck the first phase of the battle where every time you start the fight you have to dodge him camping you with his bow. I didn't even have a hard time with that part, it's just not fun. Also, i think the summons should just be there, why do I have to summon people manually when they are already attending the festival? Needless to say, I am not a fan of Radahn. He's probably my least favourite shard-bearer.

Cool-looking doesn’t conflate with him being a complete asshole, though. I swear, his Destined Death attacks are the worst to deal with, especially when they stack on top of you. The only reason I got lucky THIS time around & beat him first try when I fought him on NG+2, is because I mostly stayed on his bony ass & was lucky he didn’t wipe the floor with me in one hit. I can’t tell which is worse, though: Destined Death/Black Blade attacks, or Bifröst in God of War Ragnarök.

I’ll spare you all 26 minutes of your life, Soldier of Godrick isn’t at 1, he’s not even in the Top 10. How such a shameful oversight was able to occur baffles me and shakes me to my core, Soldier of Godrick is the most challenging and fun fight I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing in my entire life, granted I’ve never reached his second phase but he makes each second of the fight worth it with his classic line “I am soldier, blade of Godrick.” The only reason that I can fathom Soldier of Godrick not being on this list is because Demo is in fact bad at games and is salty that he can’t beat such a masterwork of enemy design. Disliked, flagged for spam and misinformation, and Demo’s mother was called and she promptly disowned him.

Honestly with how much the Elden Beast seems geared for a Torrent fight, and how thematic it would have been to have Torrent in the final fight, I feel like something must have just completely and catastrophically broke when they tried to add Torrent in, so that they, for whatever technical reason, couldn't add Torrent in within the development time they had left. No idea what that might have been, but maybe someone like Zullie will figure it out.

No, whether you like the boss or not, there is no way this boss was intended to be fought on horseback. All the attacks are designed around i-frames.

As for the attacks that need to be i-framed you get i-frames when jumping on and off torrent so you could reasonably transition between grounded and horseback.

FS had to design the game in a way that allowed you to finish it with multiplayer which torrent can't be used in.

Before they fixed the pegasus/flying horse glitch, you could access a point below Leyndell where you could *JUST* see and target Elden Beast (it exists down there below the capital from the beginning of the game). Dealing any damage to it, with a pot or arrow or such, would instantly teleport the player *and Torrent* down into the arena, where you could then fight it on horseback. Of course, I spent my time messing with this from the beginning of the game, so I'd promptly get 1-shot, but I might roll back the game again in order to fight it with an endgame character, just mounted. TLDR: nope, it seems to work just fine.

hoarah loux is my favourite because I personally wasn't bothered by "oh no the first phase reused something from earlier in the game my life is ruined" because its such a fun and aggressive back and forth and I love how the fight constantly twists your prebuilt knowledge while also tipping it on it's head and forcing you to adapt as the fight progresses, and the hyper aggression from hoarah loux gave me flashbacks to my first souls experience of reaching gascoigne and getting instantly slaughtered by his final phase, learning how to evade the barreling freight train that is always aimed at you was so incredibly fun.

I think the difference with the Loretta fight is that the shade isn't just phase 1, it's a weaker version of the boss. So when you fight the next version, it feels like something we fought before got upgraded. I don't think the Godfrey shade takes away from final Godfrey; I mostly think it kinda feels pointless, because the shade literally is just phase 1 Godfrey copy and pasted. It's like finding an exact replica of Godrick in an evergaol. Who asked for that?

Mohg is absolutely my favorite boss as well. Incredible lore and design, music slaps, and I've never had as much fun dodging a boss as I've had dodging him. Usually the long windups in this game mess me up and frustrate me, but Mohg's just feel natural. He feels perfectly balanced, and that alone puts him far above Malenia in my opinion. I'd give a shoutout to Fortissax, poor bastard has tissue paper for health, but the visuals and music of the fight are stunning. he's got really good lore, and he's the only boss specifically tied to a quest without any other way to fight him, giving him a climactic feeling for the duskborn route. Fight wise, he's easy, but that's better than being annoying. Mechanically he's not better than Placidusax, but otherwise he edges him out in just about every category in my opinion. Kind of wish he had a more impressive ultimate attack than the glaive or the double lightning spears considering just how extra Placidusax's are, but his are still cool. Also would have liked if he had Eclipse Shotel deathblight flames to fit more with his theme and make the deathblight more of an actual threat. Honestly the only things I dislike about Elden Beast are the fact you have to fight him and Radagon in a gauntlet and mechanically his fight isn't the greatest, though it isn't terrible. Visuals, music, lore, all phenomenal. I'm not upset that he's the final boss, I just wish he was better. I wish Rykard wasn't so easy to cheese in phase 2, but otherwise he's an excellently designed boss, pinnacle of the weapon gimmick fight. Don't get what your problem is with the ult, just unlock and run for your life until the apocalypse ends, his blade doesn't reach the whole arena and outrunning the skulls is pretty easy. Anyway, funny that they made the two invader faction leaders some of the best bosses in the game.

Yeah, so bad that it's the only fucking way to punish him with a melee build, since he has 0 endlag to his moves compared to his range and reach, and compared to other dragons. My first time fighting him, i spent more than 3 minutes just trying to figure out how the fuck am i supposed to approach during phase 2, i found no fucking answer, everytime he'd either be already wounding up another attack, or his head would be waaaay too above for me to reach it, this is an issue in phase 1 too, but at least he does have openings in that phase, which are all lose in phase 2. I could had found openings if i had aimed for the legs, but that's a horrible method of fighting dragons, cuz it makes the camera unsufferable and it turns off half of the dragon's moveset, no matter how much i'd love to enjoy his fight, i have nothing to like about him about his gameplay

Lol my computer runs the rest of the game 60fps no problem when I fight fortissax it just drops to 15 making it basically unplayable, probably wouldnt be a problem if there werent 20 lightning bolts and death clouds happening at all times along with the dragon, at that point the lightning on player just becomes impossible to dodge

Yeah I found this out myself and it helped trivialize the hardest part of the 2nd phase which is by far the flaming skulls mixed in with his slam. That can be game ender finishing move if you don't know how to deal with it.

I would definitely have put Radahn in the Top 3. Throughout all my playthroughs, he's always the moment I look forward to the most. The build-up, the festival, the diversity in his phases and attacks that changes both his and the players playstyle, the music, the arena, THE METEOR! My only problem is his hitboxes. Not on his attacks, but his body. Coupled with his constant drifting, it can be a problem with short-range weapons. Aside from that, he's amazing, I love him. I'm also glad to know that so many other people in the community agree that Godfrey is the best boss.

Radahn was easily the best boss in the game imo, until I got super dissapointed by his super low health bar, his moveset is great, the build up is outstanding, the arena and everything, I'm always urging to fight him againg. But when I do he just dies to damn quickly, since the first playtrough I've never had the opportunity to see half of his second phase moves because he is already almost dead when the phase starts if not dead. Seriously just give him double the health bar or at least 50% more and the fight is perfect

Godfrey feels exactly as a souls-boss should, very little bullshit, requires maximum focus and is mechanically satisfying to learn and beat, giving the sense that you mastered the fight and didn't get good rng like for example getting only a few waterfowl dances instead of 10 thus you win, he is just what a boss should be.

I'm SHOCKED that Godfrey wasn't your top 3. He's by far my favorite boss in Elden Ring and the only boss in the game I would put anywhere near the likes of Gael or Nameless King. He's just so stupidly FUN. I can't recall any other boss From ever made that I would enjoy LOSING to this much. Everytime he grabbed and obliterated me I was screaming in delight. Im really curious what people's reasons are for Godfrey not being top 3, or top 1. His attacks are just SO fun to dodge. His triple slam might be the most fun thing to dodge in any Dark Souls game I've played. As the visible indicators are just so cool to look for. Looking back he took me about an hour to learn and kill, which is far below many of the other more difficult fights in the game, but I had the most fun hour in ALL of Elden Ring fighting and killing Godfrey.

While i would definitly put him into my own top 10, i can see why he might not leave as much of an impression as he should on some. He is simply too easy and that's entirely on his tiny healthbar. I am not even kidding when i say Fromsoft should buff his HP by 100%. Yes, just double it. I defeated him several times by now and i can barely remember his moveset. Why would i? It's not like i ever needed to learn it. I was literally trading blows and facetanking some stuff because he goes down so quickly anyway and gives you enough time to heal, so trading damage is a viable option. His damage is fine. The moveset is amazing. It's just that tiny healthbar that limits his awesomeness.

I think there are only like three things Malenia needs that would make her much better. a bit of tweaking with the odd animation cancels into dodges/kicks, making the windup and recovery of Waterfowl dance a bit longer, and making specifically the first flurry do a bit less damage. sometimes it feels like they thought people would only ever get caught with the first bit so they made it do much higher damage than it needed to. hell, they could keep the overall damage total of the full move and just shift some from the first to the second and third flurries to balance it out

Malenia would be my favorite boss in the game hands-down if it weren't for Waterfowl being what it is. Just dying instantly because you dodged at the right time but into the next flurry and died just feels fucked and against usual Fromsoft design.

I've actually come to realised that the biggest issue is her inconsistent hyperarmor and healing on hit. For the healing part, I don't mind her healing if she actually deals damage to me with her physical attacks. But she is programmed to heal on hit. Everytime she hits a hitbox, she will heal. If you hits your shield, she heals. If she hits your hitbox during the dying animation, she'll still heal. It's not a bug.

Finally someone gave Rykard the love he deserves! The moment I entered Mt. Gelmir, I knew there was going to a boss to fit the twisted, fiery environment. The Volcano manor quests perfectly set the tone; you have to earn the right to fight him. The voice acting, atmosphere, and use of an unique weapon that was both fun and challenging made him my favorite boss of the game and one of my top 10 for the series! I just really dont love gimmick fights hes cool and was fun to fight but to me the gimmick wasnt even changed from the gimmik fight is ds3 or demon souls (and between demon souls and ds3 there was time to forget the gimmick but since ds3 we have have had to see it 2 more times with only sekiro not to my memory having the same gimick)

Technically you dont have to, on my first playthrough I went out and explored the Volcano Mannor cause it looked cool and then I reached a boss room and was like "oh alright, well lets do this" so yeaaa, you can just "stumble" into the fight, which fucks up the whole questline in the Mannor but shit happens. Other than that, its a gimmick fight so I automatically disliked it and I find it to be one of the worst fight in the game because gimmick fights just arent fun, theres nothing interesting about them and theyre forgettable. Especially since everyones experience will be the same and can be summarizen in "special weapon goes whoosh whoosh". Furthermore, the fight just doesnt pose any difficulty due to the very reason that it is a gimmick fight.

The giant has a small Number of attacks very Easy to dodge and the fight was very boring, you had only to spam a single Attack... My favorite boss in Elden Ring is without a doubt Black Blade Maliketh. The fact that Fromsoftware managed to refrence the honor of Ludwig, the savagery of Gael, the design of Vordt, the weapon arts of Isshin, while wielding the immortal-slaying blade of Sekiro is astounding. Not to mention the fact that this man made demigods and legends such as Radahn and Malenia shit themselves just by his mere-presence forever solidifies him as my favorite character and bossfight in Elden Ring.

Radagon is S teir, the two together would be s teir if they simply tuned radagons damage down a bit (so you werent as drained for EB by a few small mistakes) and then stopped EB from running so much/ gave it less health. Rykard is undoubtedly the best fight for me. The arena is just outstanding, both his first and second stage are so well done and it's the best use of the storm ruler mechanic yet. Plus when the arena just turns into literal hell with flaming skulls chasing you and Rykard charging his blade is one of the coolest gaming moments I've ever experienced. Not to mention the god tier soundtrack and outstanding Blasphemous Blade you get from his remembrance just make Rykard my fav boss.

Rykard, Placidusax, and Mohg are my favorites in no particularly order, so glad to see them in the top 5. Rykard is the perfect storm ruler fight. Why? Simply because they didn't make the fight revolve around a charge and allowed you to fight him with the entire moveset. Instead of being a one move fight, it became an overexxagerated fight around traditional mechanics at a heightened range. Brilliant in it's simplicity. Placidusax is pretty much the perfect Dragon Boss. It avoids all the pitfalls of Sinh, Kalameet, and Midir in that he's never running away from you. He is always somehow going after you or standing still. It's his attacks that force you to take the risk to close distance or back off. Spectacle wise, he can't be beat. Just has everything going for him. Fire breath, lightning swipes, lightning AOE, godzilla beams, nuking the floor, dive bombing you, etc. Then Mohg is just a perfect melee boss in every respect. All about dodging and then spacial awareness

My best boss in the game HAS TO BE Morgott. His fight of all the fights in the game feels the most fair and fun. His attacks are all fantastic in the way he can chain them into different combos. The way he moves and attacks are all a sight to behold and makes for an extremely exhilarating fight with his rain of swords providing fantastic variation to his fight where you can safely fight in one of the 4 parts of the arena and the way he mixes his delayed attacks and quick attacks in one combo is a sight to behold, really hammering it home how much of a skilled warrior Morgott is. His voice acting by Anthony Howell has to be the some of the best voice acting in ANY From game and definitely the best in Elden Ring, his voice carries tremendous weight like that of a true king and you can tell every emotion and his feelings on each character just from the way he speaks. His OST is also fantastic, providing the feeling of fighting with a great leader, but underneath you can hear a small bit of tragedy. And this leads me to my biggest reason for why I love Morgott so much... His story. Morgott is an EXTREMELY tragic character. The saddest part about Morgott is that he was legitimately blessed. Omen curse is no curse. It's a blessing of the Crucible which was later seen as a curse due to Golden Order. He may as well have been the most holy of all Demigods, but he was punished for it by being left for a time in the sewers and he hated HIMSELF for it. That is until he was released, most likely by the time Giants were still a threat since Godfrey knew him and he was banished after he beat the Giants and other enemies of Erd Tree. He also uses a Giant Crusher. A weapon that fell out of use after War with the Giants. A GREAT way to hide little story details, in Boss's moveset itself. In his remembrance (japanese version) it's said that he didn't need anyone else's love to love in return. He just loved. He loved others matter what. And there most likely were people that did love him. One of them was Godfrey, but the other may have been his brother Godwyn... who was killed at the Night of the Black Knives. He tried to be a protector, he created Black Cavalry who we see in the trailer and may have been sent by him to hunt down the assassins, he created Sentry's Torches to protect his other siblings from Godwyn's fate, and yet... they all betrayed him and destroyed everything he loved and even then when he shows up in the throne room and calls his siblings traitors he still seems to have some actual care for them after all of that and he still felt great shame after staining their thrones meaning that he truly cared for them (outside of Rykard who may have taken more public role in killing Godwyn as part of his deal with Ranni which could have been start of his Blasphemy). Morgott was a good person that was betrayed by almost everyone around him. By his family that started destroying their life and breaking their world, by the Erdtree which wouldn't accept him due to his "curse" and by Golden Order which indoctrinated him into hating what he was blessed with. Morgott is probably one of the saddest characters in the game, if not THE saddest. A bitter person who has nothing, but hatred for himself and his family and the only thing he cares about is the thing that made his life miserable in the first place. And the only people that loved him are either dead (Godwyn who given that he befriended Dragons most likely cared little about curse on Morgott) or he never got to meet again after longing to see them again (Godfrey). And the part with Godfrey is even more sad when you realize that Godfrey we fight before him is most likely created BY Morgott. It's possible that Morgott created that apparition because he wanted the help of his father, he wanted his father to be there and become Elden Lord, evident by him placing his crown on the throne in the trailer. At the end when we fight him he is legitimately left with nothing, but the crumbling city and his duty which is built on lies of the Greater Will. Pray for Morgott The Omen King, The Grace-Given. The True King of Leyndell and only worthy successor of Godfrey. A true heir. The only Demigod left that is worthy of being called Golden. Morgott the Golden Omen. Morgott is probably my new favorite boss From has ever made and with Aldia and Vendrick he is my favorite character From has ever made and that may be partially because of Martin. His character GREATLY makes me think of mix of Tyrion and Stannis and that is the best kind of comparison one could want. Morgott stands above and beyond as an exceptional character in Elden Ring that deserves FAR more praise. The only problem I have with him is that he is too easy if you explore everything before him, but that is another great thing. I don't want his fight to end. I want more of his fight. That is something that is hard to achieve. Make me WANT to fight a boss more. Let's hope he may have an Endgame fight in DLC. As so far we have one in early game, mid game and now only endgame is left. Let's hope for one final showdown with the True King of Leyndell and to me the only worthy Demigod to be Elden Lord.

Very well said, but Godrick is more balanced. Morgott has a few BS things he can do. Godrick has absolutely NONE. The lore though is PEAK, and beautifully said on your part. Godrick is also a very tragic character, but in perspective given by you I now see that Morgott may even rival and surpass that tragedy. Godrick, the runt of the litter who could never live up to golden lineage and using the anchor rune to graft in an attempt for living up to his forefathers, vs. Morgott, the last king of Leyndell, blessed by the crucible at birth, but cursed in the eyes of himself and the Golden Order, a Fell Curse, but despite this still remaining selfless in his service to the Erdtree, or possibly, in his collusion with Mohg, against its current foundation, and into a new age.

You really hit the head of the nail about Maliketh being a glass cannon, and that removes some enjoyment from that fight. He absolutely destroyed me in seconds dozens of times on my first playthrough, but now I've done the same to him for the last couple of dust offs. I really, really think he would be the best fight in the game if his damage was reduced by ~25% and his hitpoints increased by ~25-50% - just so you can enjoy his sick anime acrobatics more! And also, not having other ways than freeze pots to cancel Waterfowl Dance is baffling. Whenever a boss in Sekiro pulled something like that, you had something to counter it with. Malenia for me is more about running around being scared of getting deleted than actually fighting her, and I'm not Stockholm syndrome'd enough to enjoy this fight at all. Also, make her life steal proportional to damage dealt.

I love his voice acting so much, he really does sound like the creepy power-hungry old man he's described as when you hear NPC's mention him in Limgrave. Morgott would absolutely be my number 1 with Mogh following in closely. Other than obviously having the best moveset and voice acting he is also in my opinion one of the fairest bosses in the game. If you truly understand the fight, you can get hits in most of his attacks. He often uses to delayed attacks to roll catch the player, but attacking instead is ideally the thing u would want. Furthermore, attacking in between his attacks string is also plausible even with a colossal sword, you just have to know when it is safe. Even though Morgotts is my favorite there are two things that I wish that would change about him. 1. His health is way too low for someone guarding the Edtree. It would also fix the problem of the second half of the game feeling too overtuned. 2. The concept of a boss baiting attacks from the players is a little stupid, though it isn't as much of a problem once you figure it out when. Not bc they’re hard to deal with, but bc, when you think about it, it looks so unnatural when they’re standing there with they’re sword/cane over their heads just pretending they’re gonna hit you for like 5 seconds. I’m very surprised Morgott and Godrick aren’t here. Both are imo absolute top tier bosses. Godrick has stellar design with an amazing OST, voice acting and is really well balanced for where he’s placed in the game. Apart from that one AOE wind move that has no visual tell, all his moves feel fair to me. Morgott is the same except for two things. The good one is that the fun is amped up to 11 with his insanely mobile moveset, it felt like I was fighting him after he’d taken martial arts classes or something. The bad point is he needs a health buff because by the time you reach him, you’re already pretty strong and you’ll shred him like cheese.

How did Malenia end up on this list, much less above bosses like Placidusax and Hoarah Loux? Malenia’s fight is actually one I despise not just because of its difficulty, but because I can see the potential buried beneath a sea of unbalanced mechanics and an overemphasis on difficulty. She’s a well designed boss at her core, but the health-on-hit, the busted hyper armor, the Scarlet Rot, and Waterfowl Dance all drag her down by marring good, fair, and difficult boss design with too much emphasis on the last part. I’m worried you’ve been caught up in the hype surrounding how hard she is and her being “the ultimate test of the skills you’ve accumulated throughout all these games.” The fact you had to change your build just to stand a chance against her says a lot about how she’s designed, and it doesn’t say much good.

honestly don't understand how anyone can rate radahn or godfrey as bossfights. I've played through to NG+3, have beaten every story boss in the game at least 4 times in my normal playthroughs, and have helped many other players beat radahn, malenia, maliketh, morgott, godfrey and radagon/eb. Of those fights, radahn and godfrey are easily the least fun, most unbalanced to fight. They give you minimal return damage windows, the fights don't feel like fun dances but rather a boring dodge-and-swing exercise, and have obnoxious aoe that will hit you when you're completely behind/under the boss, among other issues. I'd genuinely love to hear why you enjoy those two fights enough to rank them at 1 and 3, cos to me they're easily the two most boring, 'I'll equip my strongest build and kill them as fast as possible to get the fight over', main bosses in ER.

Especially Radahn who is slow in comparison. For Godfrey, you gotta adapt to the pace, then he's not bullshit in any way (I'd like to hear you talk about your issues a bit more detailed so I can answer a bit more clearly)

I know exactly how to dodge every single attack (not like with certain red haired ladies) There are clear attack windows for every combo (like I said, I could elaborate on this if you give me a little bit more detail) I hope that was helpful. Edit: I created a boss rush account for practice and enjoyment so I fought both of them at least 30+times

Placiduasax was definitely my favorite. Something about fighting a lightning Ghidorah looking fiend in a tornado was just so cool. I realize alot of that was the spectacle overtaking the actual mechanics, but it was just so damn cool man. Also felt alot less clunky than any other fromsoft dragon boss, midir included.

I don't know about that one. What made me love Midir is that the entire fight revolved around staying in front of his head, and if you did that he was extremely straightforward and consistent to put down. Placidussax doesn't have that "I'm way too big so stay at this spot to fight me", making the camera a bit if a slog at times especially if you're attacking him on the neck. Also, and this is my biggest gripe, the rythm of the fight is awkward, he is so slow, soooo painfully slow to react if you circle to his back, but then second phase kicks in and he starts teleporting around and throw in attacks at a much more consistent pace, before landing and returning to the slow awkward stuff. I like Placidussax don't get me wrong, he has superb presentation and spectacle but the fight itself just isn't as great, and I don't see him being better than Midir.

Great list but super excited to see Mohg at number 1! I personally find him my favorite boss and it's not particularly close -- great attacks, fun mechanics, and a second phase that's a riff on the first instead of just a completetly different boss (e.g. Maliketh, Elden Beast). He's the only boss I've consistently gone out of my way to fight in every single one of my playthroughs and IMO one of the best bosses FromSoft has to offer.

Morgot may not be an obvious choice, but I adore his fight, from starting almost as a test, seeing if you remember everything he thought you at first, then he starts throwing out some spears and magic he didn't use before, and then he goes full UNLIMATED POWER and begins to kick your ass, half the arena covered in Shockwaves of light and bloody slashes, keeping up the pressure with some real quick reflexes on the old omen. plus his intro cuts energy where he breaks his staff to reveal the beautiful obsidian blade beneath. Also gotta say, was not expecting Loretta, loved her fight, she waxed me the first time I fought her in Caria Manor, and then I didn't even lose on the Haligtree version.

Hes kinda been nr 1 on any video i have seen so far, personally he isnt even in my top 5. His moves are nothing to special, he looks like dark morgott, which isnt bad, but not as great as a Malenia, radagon, astel , placidusax , etc.. from a visual and cinematic point. I dislike him making you heal 3 times, tho him casting that ability is pretty cool, i give him that. With tear it becomes a joke tho. I like phase 2 from the looks a lot more, but his attacks are just cancerous ground covering attacks, yet the fight somehow wasnt challenging enough. Wish he had more actually difficult moves, and less arena covering bloodpoison. Not a bad boss, but def not nr 1, or even top 5 in my opinion

Radagon always around top 5 because of Elden Beast and Godfrey and Malekith almost always were on Place 3 and 4. Personally i like that he has Malenia in his top 3 , first time ive seen it so far. Also its bold, but at least different he has Loretta / Fire Giant in here, tho Morgott / Godrick/ Astel definetely would have deserved this more. Personally id rate em like this: 1. Malenia 2. Malekith 3. Placidusax 4. Godfrey 5. Radahn 6. Radagon (would have been nr 4 without the beast) 7. Astel 8. Morgott 9. Mohg 10. My top 10: 10. Malenia: Waterfowl Dance being so much of an insta-win move that entire videos and theorycrafting sessions have been devoted solely to dodging it really shows how unbalanced it is and it really drags the entire fight down overall. Hell, even Millicent's final invader fight in her questline is a piece of cake solely because she has the same move and it nearly instakills every invader. Taking the dance aside though, the rest of the fight is spectacular. I just wish Waterfowl Dance were more manageable. 9. Rennala: Eat your heart out, Sir Gideon Offnir. While the first phase is nothing to write home about and is honestly kind of annoying, the second phase is a lot of things I look for in a boss design. Not to mention she somehow managed to make a spellcaster boss fun, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. 8. Margit/Morgott: 2 sides of the same coin. Margit is memorable solely because he takes Gascoigne's trophy of being the most brutal first required boss in the entire series (not that he's better than Gascoigne but he's definitely more of a wake-up call). Morgott is the guardian of the endgame with insane aggression, combo strings that make Pontiff Sulyvahn blush, damage AND range, and the fight is an intense thrill ride from start to finish. 7. Radahn: I love the spectacle of this fight. Riding into battle with your friends to take him down (or going solo like me) is absolutely exhilarating. Radahn's attacks hit hard and travel far, making positioning absolute, but if you can position yourself right you get massive openings. His second phase post-divebomb throws that out the window entirely as he now gets loads of AOEs to catch you. Just a fun fight all around. 6.Radagon and Elden Beast: I am prepared to die on the lonely hill of being the only person on the entire planet who enjoys the Elden Beast fight. I didn't mind chasing the boss down all that much tbh and Radagon alone makes the fight top 10 IMO. A fantastic first phase with thunderous attacks, high agility, and insane attack power mixed with a good second phase with incredible atmosphere, an otherworldly design, and a unique gameplay loop average together to be just outside my top 5. 5. Placidusax: Dragon fights have had highs and lows in FromSoft's boss catalogue and Placidusax might be one of the highest highs they've ever had. The fact that the boss is stationary means that the attacks are telegraphed, yet commanding, the command being to move if you want to win. I enjoyed hacking away at the dragon while it tried to rain lightning on me. The skydive attacks are super cool too. The teleport attacks keep him from a higher nod, but it's still a fantastically designed fight from beginning to end. 4. Rykard: Wind weapon spectacle fight done perfectly. There's a very strong argument to be made that this is the best eye-candy boss FromSoft has ever made. Turns out all it took was making the weapon's damage not be tied to the weapon art and instead making all attacks shoot wind to deal damage. This fight is insanity that I loved every second of. 3. Mohg: NIHIL! NIHIL! NIHIIIIIIIIIIIL! Attacks that are *just* delayed enough to trip up your dodges, making portions of the entire arena unsafe with blood flames, and of course the phase 2 triple hemorrhage power up leading to an absolutely insane phase 2 with even more blood flames, further damage, and absurd aggression, Mohg is an absolute blast. 2. Hoarah Loux: A serious breath of fresh air. Godfrey is a great boss in his own right, but his phase 2 transition into Hoarah Loux is really what pushes him this high for me. I can't think of any other boss in FromSoft history who was just as aggressive as the best of them, but fought with his bare hands. It really makes him feel like a legendary warrior who doesn't even need a weapon to lay the smackdown on you, further compounded by how he gets significantly stronger in this phase after murdering poor Serosh. This fight is absolutely ferocious and gets the blood pumping like no other boss can. But there's one more boss that takes the cake for my favorite in the game. 1. Maliketh: Like I even need to explain why Maliketh is great.

I would argue that Placidusax isn't better than Midir though, or that any of the dragon bosses in Elden Ring are better than Midir for that matter, for one simple reason. Midir's fight was entirely centered about staying in front of his head, which allowed for excellent visual clarity despite him being such a massive enemy. That mechanic wasn't brought back for Placidusax (or any of the dragon fights in Elden Ring to be honest, and I suspect it's the case because From specifically wanted to avoid making Midir clone fights) and his visual clarity suffers for it. You can strike him pretty much anywhere you want but unless it's the tail you won't be able to see shit about what his heads are doing which is problematic especially when he has like 4 variations on his flame breath attacks. Another gripe I have with him is that he's so slow and sloppy in his first phase. I get it, lore wise it makes sense for him to appear that way, but it really takes away from the spectacle when he just awkwardly waddles around while you're pummeling him with 6 attacks straight. That being said, he's still the dragon fight out there with the most superb presentation like, it's not even close. The stormcloud, the hecking Gransax lightning spear he thrusts into the ground so hard the music stops, the music... And in phase 2 the rythme of the battle becomes much more consistent thanks to his teleportations, teleportations that are also a trait entirely unique to Placidusax among dragons, making it a more memorable encounter. I would confidently rate him as number 2 right behind Midir, but he has drawbacks that stop him from being the best one.

I know she won't make most people's lists, probably due to her low overall difficulty, but I don't think I could rank my Top 10 and not include Rennala. I had been excited for her since way back when her cutscene leaked in the low quality trailer and she didn't let me down. I can get why her first phase would be annoying to some but I really like how almost peaceful it is? And then her second phase is awesome. The visuals during the cutscene transition are so beautiful and then I really liked how she can summon ashes too. Her summoning Agheel during my first time in her second phase was an "oh shit" moment I won't forget. Plus it was just really fun fighting a regal mage in such a beautiful arena. I also love the lore behind her and climbing through Raya Lucaria to reach her at the top is still one of my favorite portions of the game. A simple boss, but a very well executed and visually pleasing boss. Difficulty isn't the end all for me with these games.

I was very disappointed when Radahn was nerfed in the 1.04 patch, especially considering he's an optional boss and summoning fellowing warriors, the intended option (but not the only one I know, don't hurt me!), makes the epic build-up feel incredibly anticlimactic. Many of the bosses in the game excell when in comes to visual design and narrative placement, but feel like a chore or downright unfun on repeat runs, which I rarely thought in other Fromsoft games.

Loretta is absolutely one of my favourites because, despite sharing animations and moves with the Tree Sentinel, she's both a fantastic spellblade style boss and she actually feels like she was designed with the player's movement in mind, ala DS3. No animation cancels, no borderline unreactable quick attacks and the delays she does have aren't ridiculous like say Margit.

definitely agree with the malenia's take, sadly i feel like some of the Elden Ring bosses are not very fun. malenia blurs that line between challenging, and just hard for the sake of being hard and annoying. also a big problem for bosses is that they are inconsistent with their move sets and do attacks while doing an attack. like with elden beats i came down to if it decided to stop teleporting so i can actually hit it, or kept spamming spells and running away. DS3 had some of the best/fun bosses like gale, sister frida, pontiff, abyss watchers, dancer of the boreal valley, lothric, demon prince, nameless king, soul of cinder, midir.

I think the same, Malenia’s fight is just way to challenging. I wouldn’t mind her fast move set with little openings and fast pace attacks, but she can heal, deals a huge amount of damage and has way to much health and to top it of she has a second fase with the same mechanics but with more health, less openings and scarlet rot

I feel like Elden Ring (and to a certain extent Sekiro) expect you to see the Matrix or something. I feel like I'm supposed to be aware of how every intricacy of the AI's behaviour. Like the Waterfowl dance: how on earth do you predict it? The first one being at around 75% health is fairly easy to catch onto, but then she'll can do another one 30 seconds later? In Sekiro it was cool to pick up on how moves would have much longer tells than you would first realize (like Isshin strafing to your right indicates that he's about to do a thrust attack), but Waterfowl can just come happen at you with barely any warning. Of all things, I enjoy the Godskin Duo fight more than most of Elden Ring's big boss fights.

Another neat thing about Malekith is the pillars in the arena. They provide ample strategic defences against Malekith’s onslaught which can be very helpful but at the same time your positioning around the pillars matter as Malekith can also use them to his advantage.

While Radahn is my personal favorite (I fight him Torrent-less, except for the arrow rain and meteor attack), and am somewhat saddened by Morgott's absence, I can understand your reasons for the placement of each boss on this list, in great part due to your own great delivery. I can't personally regard Malenia as highly as you, even though I myself like her overall, and not just because of Waterfowl. Her spirit summons in her second phase is basically an untelegraphed attack, since an active damage hitbox appears the moment the pink aura surrounds her, which deals MASSIVE damage and builds up scarlet rot like crazy. You could say it wouldn't be an issue if she did it only at a distance from you, which she actually does, but the problem is that some of her punishable attacks take her a few feet away from you if you dodge successfully. To close the distance while she's still recovering you do a running or jumping attack, but she cancels the recovery and uses the attack while you're still at a slight distance but already stuck in the animation, leaving you with no other response but to helplessly tank a load of extremely painful hits (plus scarlet rot build up) from an untelegraphed attack. Another issue is the fact that some of her moves only SOMETIMES have hyperarmor. The grab attack, for example, can sometimes be stopped by staggering her with your own attack, but other times it simply doesn't happen. It isn't the only one, but it's easily the most egregious due to the massive damage and lifesteal. Ultimately, this makes Malenia a boss with top-tear lore and presentation, but half-half in terms of mechanics. For me, at least.

Her hyper armor is consistent. If you failed to stop the grab, you were just too late. Also, the only way she is “forced” to do the clone summon is immediately after waterfowl dance. Otherwise, if you are fighting her right, you would never be far enough away to trigger the attack

Dragon lord placidusax is without doubt my favorite ever bossfight in all of these games. It feels like midir whent to the gym and learned some amazingly cool looking attacks. And midir was my previous favorite ever fight in these games. I love dragons and this is the best it has ever been done in my humble opinion.

Considering the size of the map and the amount of bosses needed to fill it, FromSoft had 2 choices: split dev time amongst a wide array of boss designs, or focus dev time on specific types of bosses with mostly minor variations. I totally understand why they went with the latter, and I personally have no problem with it. The gank boss encounters though...

Here is the problem with Malenia: for all I know the first attack of her waterfowl dance cant be rolled through. It keeps going on for too long and Malenia does mini dashes to stay on you during it. The second, third and fourth attacks can be rolled through normaly using the right timing. The only one who I ever saw nail that role was Let Me Solo Her who also fights her almost naked and has done hundreds of Malenia fights at that point. Im not even sure thats possible at all with anything but light weight dodges. He just kind of dodges past it on the edge of the attack. Speedrunners use a trick to throw of her targeting for that first attack. The normal joe uses shields, frost pots or BHS as workarounds. (Or just facetanking it and focusing on the later dodgeable attacks of the dance instead) The only time that attack can be dodged naturally is if you are far enough away, when she goes into her stance and you can just run away to get some distance and have it hit nothing but air. But this is far from guaranteed to happen consistently. Especially as she seems to be able to go into waterfowl dance as a direct reaction to the player trying to strike her. That means you are right under her and you have to recover from your attack animation. Practically a death sentence for big weapons. An attack, that needs specific items/builds or speedrunner tricks to be avoided consistently, alone is the reason why she would never make anything close to the top ten for me, which is a shame because under that bs (and some other problems about her ability to go into and out of the shade attack combo with basically no downtime in the second phase) hides a otherwise pretty fun boss imo.

Let me solo her is a terrible example because the tracking in co-op is extremely reduced for waterfowl dance compared to solo.

I'm genuinely surprised at Morgot not making the list. He came at a perfect time in the game (twice if you count Margit) and had a great setup with a great arena. I also thought he had a great mix of attacks that kept you on your toes while not feeling unfair.

Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon 10. Commander Niall People are saying a lot about Elden Ring's boss quality, but hopefully we get some DLCs since that's when Fromsoft's bosses REALLY shine. I’m one of the few who REALLY enjoyed Fire Giant after hearing how “horrible” he is. I think he can be for some builds but I loved the spectacle and difficulty of his 2nd phase so much. It was so epic running around him, charging him while he spews huge meteor fireballs from his stomach mouth while a blasting orchestra is playing. Epic

It’s obviously a very low bar to clear but FG is the best giant boss FS has ever created, but that’s meant in a good way. I truly don’t understand what people disliked about him, sure the fire orbs are a bit tedious and some of his attacks are really hard to tell because you can’t see him, but I found that his legs give the perfect tells for what he’s doing which you can’t say about really any other giant boss ever, and that includes when he’s on his knees.

My choice for the best boss fight is actually Radagon and Elden Beast. I recognize the issues you have, but also think the fight has the best parts of any to a point that gives it my number 1 spot. First of all, Radagon as you said is an amazing and fast thrill ride, and i have no problem with his more annoying attacks because i love the unpredictable thrill it gives off. He is the biggest adrenalin rush I've ever had and the build up to him and lore behind him throughout the game makes him such a meaningful and powerful fight. And as a movie nerd and cinematic artist, The Elden Bast hits all the right notes for me. An amazing sense of scale and otherworldliness is given to this beast, and i personally feel the mood change from the great historical adrenalin rush of a battle against a legend, to a atmospheric, slow and otherworldly fight against what truly feels like a god was a genius one. The Elden Beast had also been build up big time without people realizing, with all the talk of a god needing to be killed. The way the Elden Beast changes distance and has the ability to hit you from any range i can understand the critique of. Personally i found it to create one of the most intense sensations i've ever had fight a FromSoft boss. Knowing it could hit me at any time, and feeling this great duel between a lord and a god stretch out as we both were figuring out the best method to kill each other made my heart drop. And honestly, aside from the intense feeling i got from the fight getting dragged out. It allowed me to enjoy it more, and enjoy the visuals more. I liked having time to soak it in. Especially since for a cinema artist like me this is heaven. It is the single best looking boss fight and most beautiful boss cut scene i have ever seen. The experience i had battling this beast will never be forgotten. And i think its a perfect balance between the hard hitting and fast Radagon, and the calculated beast. But thats me. I think the fight is the best from a cinematic perspective, mood, atmosphere, visuals, and lore. My fave fight in terms of build up is Radahn but i hate his hitboxes. My fave fight is Rykard because its just too fun.

My first play through, I thought Godfrey was dead the whole time and was confused about the timeline when he showed up at the end of the game. Now that I know that he was only exiled and made his return when everything went to hell in the capital and learning his true name and history, it makes his character one of my favorites in the game. If I had to design one, I'd probably do something completely different to other soulslike, and have its style based off something like Adventure Time - looks almost cartoonish, stylized and whimsical but at the same time will convey deep dark lore about the world and characters, which I envision similarly to the way Sekiro delivers its (via connecting the dots with locations, characters and item descriptions)

I really love the bosses that are super fast. It makes it feel less like a video game and more like something is actually trying to kill me which i find so engaging. I usually play fromsoft games co-op but for some reason when i got to malenia i decided I wanted to solo her. legit took me 100+ attempts but i had fun the whole time figuring out how to avoid her attacks and when i could hit her with my build that couldnt stagger her really. one of the best experiences ive ever had in gaming.

One of my issues with the last video is that the patches since then changed several rememberance bosses. They even adressed several of his criticisms of the AI. At this point only Malenia seems truly unbalanced to me out of the rememberance bosses, and that could still change some time down the line. Pearsonally I would nerf waterfowl dance a little, especially the frequency of it, and buff her other moves to make the challenge feel like it's not coming from one move.

Despite loving the game, The one aspect of ER that overall does not surpass DS3, BB, or sekiro for me is overall boss quality. But the handful of bosses on this list do boost the average up nicely, they’re very good. I’m excited to see if the dlc for this game will give us a new Gael, midir, ludwig, artorias, etc.

The top 12 or so amazing bosses in DS3 and ER are pretty equal to me. After those I think Elden Rings are way higher quality than DS3's remaining bosses. Like compare Rennala, Godskin Apostle, Loretta, Elemer of the Briar, Dragonkin of Nokstella, Astel, etc. to Crystal Sage, Oceiros, Deacons, Halflight, Yhorm, Wolnir, Vordt, Greatwood, etc.

I think the reason Godrick didn't make it is because he's in the unfortunate position of being an early game boss. Great design, but dumbed down to an early game level, making him less engaging and interesting than he could be. I kinda agree with Demod not including Morgott though. I love him, great character and great boss, but he kinda suffers from the same problem that Sister Friede had in DS3: His combos are too fast for the combat system of ER. It can feel like there aren't windows to safely damage him sometimes, and it can be frustrating. You have to be really patient and take the fight slowly, which can be unfun

About Malenia, i just stunlock her out of waterfowl dance. If you are aggressive and always in close range to her, like me, she will never be at full poise when starting the waterfowl, any quick hitting sword can break her poise with 2 or 3 hits and make her either fall from the leap or trade 1 hit her. Adding (at my own peril) that Rivers of Blood is perfect for this, with the bleed and the quick two hit R2.
