Aussie here. When I was a teenager I accidently rode my trail bike off a cliff. I was lying in a ravine with very serious injuries. Paramedics had to be winched in from a helicopter to stabilise me. I was then winched out and flown straight to the hospital. I was placed in an induced coma for a few days. I had ALL the scans and xrays, multiple surgeries for broken bones and internal injuries. I was in intensive care for 3 weeks. I was then moved into a ward for 2-3 months and after being allowed to go home, had physiotherapy as an outpatient twice a week for a year. Total cost to me? $0.00 . Thank you Medicare.

You don't need mathematics, you don't need geography, history, literature, physics and basically anything in school. Right? When did you use those lately? But there are other reasons to learn more than 1+1=2. 1. Not everything is related to your job/trade. You have to know more than that to be able to change your job if the opportunity arise and to be able to converse with someone else more than "I don't know, I didn't pay attention because I never use that". Like... being more than a robot. 2. If one person doesn't use mathematics (your example) maybe someone else has chose a trade where mathematics is crucial. Like engineering or architecture or even economics. Mathematics is a vast domain and if those first 12 years of school teach you only basics, you need probably another 10 to learn what you need. 3. Learning different aspects of life and science makes you way less susceptible to believe all sorts of crap just because you can't comprehend how others are able to do it. You know, like avoiding believing Earth is flat, for example. Just saying... life is more than being successful in your trade and prospering materially. It is also conversation, sharing knowledge, discovering how things work and enjoying while we can. Even if the same for all, a hole in the ground, I prefer to know as much truths as I can and avoid the falsities.

I live in Australia just to clarify - It isn't free. We all pay. There is a Medicare levy of 2% of your gross income. And many GP medical centres will charge a fee if you are not on a low income Health Care Card/Pension/Low. But if you attend a public hospital in an emergency, your treatment generally does not attract payment.

From my point of view it goes far deeper than to fix your healthcare system. Everything always ends up becoming a profit issue. Your food industry feeds into your healthcare system which feeds into the pockets of big corporations and the cycle continues. In Australia we dont only have universal healthcare but we also have strict food regulations that keep their citizens as healthy as possible so to not make the healthcare system redundant. Whilst our system is far from perfect the objective isnt to see how much money you can make from your citizens but instead ensuring you have a healthy and stable cohorts who will then feed their skills and expertise back into the economy. The idealogy around work and life is only unique to America and no one will ever be brave enough to challenge the status quo as they need the $$ to fund their aspirations for office.

My appointment was 9.30 in the morning and at 11.15 I walked out with 2 brand new in ear canal hearing aids, cost NIL. Thank you NHS where even my replacement batteries for the aids are free. 🇬🇧

In UK, I had a heart attack and the next year a spinal fracture. With the heart attack, I was in the hospital for a week. After both incidents, I had physical therapy. Of course there were a lot of meds as well, and ambulance rides. My total cost = $0.

In the UK we have the NHS, seeing your GP is free, seeing a specialist is free, going to A&E(ER) is free (you do wait a while), prescriptions I believe are now £9, but I have a prescription certificate, so I pay £10 every month, and then just go and collect my meds. My mum’s meds are free as she’s over 70.

We're in Canada. I had surgery last year and was in the hospital for 1 night. My bill was for 1 prescription (paid by my insurance) and $149.00 as I had selected a semi room instead of a ward (6 beds) which is free. My insurance paid for 60% of my room. Our health care is paid through our taxes.

I worked in a pharmacy in Sydney for years - people from united states would cry at the free cost or low costs on medications , i had an aussie customer travel to usa and the cost of his medication over threshold was alk paid by his insurance but things like insulin was $1000's not $13 like i except as the cost a good government has demanded for us. One fundamental difference between healthcare in every developped country in the world (yes, even countries with abysmal human rights records like China and Russia) and also a lot of Third world countries and the USA are two simple principles: First: All the other countries (in Europe, Africa, even in the middle East) are practising some form of solidarity inside their society for their citizens and form their healthcare after this model (policies for the good of all). Everyone pays into universal healthcare or similar systems (through taxes) and if you need it, the insurance covers you fully. You don't have to pay ridiculously expensive plans, extra fees on top, deductibles on top, out-of-pocket costs on top and crazy fees for ambulances or doctor's visits on top. The USA is the only outlier because of a single reason: absolutely over-the-top extreme individualism (and of course greed). Loads of people are of the opinion that they "don't want my dollars to help a poor white/black/Latino family in the neighborhood across my city, I only want to pay for my needs exclusively." The principle of caring for someone who is not your absolutely close family or friend is impossible to fathom for US citizens, because everyone only thinks of him-/herself. Everything else is "communism". And because so many Americans are thinking that way you probably will never have the common will to change your health system, even if it crushes you financially. That is my opinion. Second point: Propaganda over centuries by the private insurance lobby has let a majority of Americans to believe that every country on earth EXCEPT the USA must be a medical wasteland where people die in emergency rooms left and right. If every country had it THIS bad, they would have abandoned universal healthcare models long ago, no? On the contrary, it's the US where each year about 45.000 uninsured or underinsured people die because of treatable illnesses that are not covered.

They have no worker's rights, you don't get paid if you are ill, most employers give at least 4 weeks paid holidays a year in England, some get more than that. My family have both medicare, Australia's universal healthcare , and we also have private insurance for certain things. A couple of years ago my daughter spent two weeks in hospital - private room, MRI, ultrasounds, xrays, medications etc. The day she came home all we had to pay was for our parking - medicare and our insurance covered everything else.

The problem with the US as it is, is that it is in a perpetual state of elections. Federal elections are held every two years in even numbered years, and state elections every year. Presidential elections every four years, in years divisible by 4. Government offices are NEVER in a state of equilibrium, where things can actually move forward, because when something is suggested and is getting worked on in office, half the time spent is on campaigning, fixing issues is secondary to being reelected.

here's the thing with heathcare anywhere in the world but the US - some places have only free healthcare options, you go to the doc, or to the hospital, everything is prepaid through the taxes - some places have options for both free healthcare when going to the public hospitals/docs and an option for paid healthcare in private docs and hospitals my country and I think many EU countries have the both options system the thing is that if I use the private services I wont go bankrupt. in fact because I live in the country side and going to the hospital for free stuff, is not an option because the money and hours I will spend on transportation, is not worth it. also because for example orthopedist is a private doctor, and he performs surgeries in a private hospital (sadly the most expensive we have here) I had to have my 2 surgeries at that hospital, because I trust him to fix my bones. one surgery was up to 5k euros, and the other 3.5K euros. with most of the money being the hospital stay and not the medical part of things. again that kind of cost dont get you bankrupt. on the other hand when my appendix acted up and I went to the emergency room of the public hospital, I got it removed, and I paid exactly 0 euros

I've watched a number of these 'when did you realize America messed you up' videos, and about 60% are about health care, (or lack thereof). More accessible health care pays dividends in a generally healthier society, better life expectancy and greater peace of mind. And don't get me started on American processed foods and obesity. Healthcare, good diet and reasonable exercise are part of preventing health issues. And yes, I know there are exceptions. Uncle Bill smoked like a chimney every day of his life and lived to be 102. And Mary down the road exercised daily, ate healthy unprocessed foods, and dropped dead at age 38. But these are statistic outliers. And the goal of a healthy society is to keep these outliers to a minimum. In three measures of public health, America is not at the top. Not even close. These measures are mortality rates, morbidity rates and infant mortality rates. Do the research America, then start demanding answers.

On Christmas Eve I realised I was coming down with a chest infection and my NHS GP (free) was already closed so the only option was a private GP (I live in the middle of London so there a lot of these within walking distance). I got an immediate appointment, checked out and then 10 days worth of antibiotics. While I was there I also got him to look at a mole/freckle thing I thought was bigger and got my blood pressure checked. (I'm know I'm oversharing) That cost me £80 ($100) in total including the actual appointment which felt mad but was worth it to not be ill over Christmas. I don't know how that would compare to you guys doing the same thing there. The private GP thing here is definitely a growing market but a lot of it is for reasons like mine that day.

We do have a Minor Ailments scheme but it's not the same. Ours is just at participating pharmacies and with a limited range of conditions, pretty much the ones you might ask advice about in a pharmacy anyway. A prescription paying adult with a chest infection requiring antibiotics wouldn't have got through the system as it still requires a GP referral. The system is changing though with pharmacists being given more powers to prescribe to customers so as to reduce pressure on GP services. It's on average a two week wait to get a GP appointment where I live (very densely populated, falling GP numbers) so every little helps! @@jmillar71110

The problem with health care is that free market simply DOESN'T WORK. Free market is supposed to work because competition keep price low, but competition exists when you have time to spare to look for the best prices around and take it; when you're dying, when you're very sick and you need an ambulance, when they say your child is gona die if you don't take this or that treatment immediately, do you say "No, wait 1 or 2 weeks that I look for a better price"? No, you don't, you go for the treatment; you're pratically hostage of them 100% private health care simply DOESN'T WORK. All the industrialized countries worked it out except US (and 80% of third world countries worked it out too)

In most civilized countries you have "Good Samaritan" laws. If you try to help somebody in a case of emergency you can't be punished or held responsible when something goes wrong. Also, there are laws that demand you to help in such cases according to your abilities. When you witness an accident you must ask if help is needed, provide the necessary help, ask other passers-by for help you can't provide, and at least call the equivalent of 911. It's a criminal offense if you refuse to help when you're able to.

The reason you show your workings in a maths question is because if a question is for 5 marks, you can still score marks even if the answer is wrong if your calculations are shown and it's just the final answer that is wrong, the examiner will give you possibly 3 marks. Needless to say this is NOT necessary for infant school maths like 1 + 1=2.

You guys and others help inform people of other cultures, ALL countries have major flaws its not just the US , intime education , health care and gun laws will change , this will improve the quality of life which is generally a goal for both sides of the political divide... US tax dollars literally subsidise pharmaceutical companies but yet they get no benefit onfsct the opppsite as the cost in the US is extremely high

When people hit a person on accident, i mean you must be really sick person if you go hit somebody on purpose. So yes there will be an investigation, but they will only go to jail if they DO RUN. and if they are still there and just explain the situation they will be treated like they are the victim too. because it is also a traumatizing experience for the person that hit somebody.

You have one party that maybe wants to improve healthcare a little bit, if they get around to it, but not really, and another party that wants to make it worse. So, while it certainly makes sense to vote, it will not be enough to produce a big overhaul of the healthcare system.

Let my put this a bit straight, Europe isnt an utopia! Moste americans that "make it" in europe, is those that would/could make it in USA too! I probably dont need to say that Russia and Belarus altso is a part of Europe!? And then to EU, there is 27 independent countries, and on top of that other countries in EFTA.. and UK! However, about healt care system, it differ a lot by country.. its like if every state in US would manage there healt care! For what i know all EU countries have a national healt care system, paid for by taxes, mandatory insurency fees or a mix of that! But in USA you have "Freedome", you can chose to be healty never being sick and dont pay any healt insurance if you like.. it juste this its going to end up on your taxes anyway.. or rather on your productivity level on your whole population, and then less tax revenues for your state/goverment!

We have collective agreements and very strong unions in Sweden. You can't fire people unless the people in question have committed serious crimes against the employer. School, school lunches and healthcare are free. 5 weeks paid holiday. Parents have 480 days of paid parental leave for each child born. I would never move to US and US is NOT the greatest country on earth.

I think you Americans needs to open the eyes... start looking to the rest of the world. Literally your life value in USA is lower than most of the countries, working for a salary is not so high as you think, paying the same taxes as most of the European countries, without paid holidays, no health system and not feel safe in your own town. Same taxes with a proper system and proper politicians would provide you a much better quality life instead of risking your own live because you are "literally" death scare of go to the doctor because the bills so keep leaving and working with injuries. There is no words ... it really is a mess up system yours. Sorry.

Maybe I see things differently. For me I would live no where else but America. There are things great about Europe I’m sure. But,There are things that you take for granted while living in the states until you go somewhere else and are without it. I notice something many of these people are young and aren’t dealing with a lot of responsibilities yet. Until you invest a lot in your life you haven’t reaped the benefits yet. It’s easy to look at America and tear it apart for not being perfect. No place is perfect. I don’t live with a spirit of fear. I don’t see terror around every corner.

You're clearly too young to know anything about other countries. Do you even have a passport, and have you EVER been outside your home state ? The ONLY thing you would have to be without, when living outside the US, is guns. Literally the reason for as many deaths as in traffic every year. The US has a TERRIBLE health issue due to chemically laced food, and it being the global sugar capitol, the US is also the obesity capitol of the world. Healthcare, Education, Infrastructure, Personal Safety, Job security all of this prepaid by taxes. Imagine getting a paycheck and having the sum on that paycheck be what you have available for rent, food and pleasure.. No College fund, health insurance or sales taxes to factor in. The US is a cesspool of propagandized indoctrinees, who have been forcefed since birth that their country is the greatest. The ONLY two things the US is first in, is number of incarcerated citizens, and millitary budget. The US pays MORE for their millitary, than the next 27 countries on the list COMBINED. 25 of those 27 are allies. The land of the free, has the most people in jail... How is that for a bragging right ?

Don’t you Americans realize that democracy is not supposed to be a choice of only two candidates? One has severe dementia and the other one is a criminal… how can you call that a democracy?? In Europe we have unlimited choices to vote for, both parties and individuals.
