Why is Russia associated with drinking vodka? According to UN data, today Russia is in 16th place in terms of alcohol consumption. I often visit Russia and for a long time. Nobody drinks vodka from my Russian friends. Probably need to watch less Hollywood movies. Yes, I am aware that vodka was invented in Russia, but why does everyone think that Russians drink it like water? Even close to nothing like this in reality, believe me.

According to quite a few Polish people (who I don’t have enough info to disagree or agree with), Vodka is actually Polish in origin (which further compounds the issue). So... The stereotype is in some ways even more misattributed than you said yourself.

It's nice that the Americans are showing interest in Russia. But since the video is old, it contains outdated, biased and politicized information (more precisely, misinformation). In addition, there are too many stereotypes in both the videos and the reactions.

If you think it's politicized and full of misinformation, you only have your fellow Russians to blame, because Geography Now does their research by asking people from the country. (With, of course, the exception of explaining the physical geography, which isn't up to interpretation. If there's a river there, there's a river there.)

Russians didn't take the Crimea from Ukraine, the referendum was legit, given the ethnicity of people! The problem was that current US president Biden's son, in 2014, basically bought the country oil, gas and electricity sector with the idea of expanding NATO, and Russia will not have that on it's borders, since NATO expired their 1949 mandate of not expanding East. I would encourage you to read more on the creation of of the UN and NATO, and the former Warsaw pact countries, and how the Western powers broke their promise, which led to the Cold War. You can say whatever, but it was the "west" that broke their promise to Russia. And Russia is not the broken and lawless country it was under Eltsin in the 1990s. It's a formidable force to be reckoned with, and will not leave its citizens to die under useless repression or extermination as the Ukrainian army did against its own civilians in this modern conflict, which actually falls in line with what certain groups were doing in WW2. Russians deplore fascism and will defend freedom with their lives. The "west" can suck it! I hate that section on Russian history, as no Russian speaks about it, but it is a given, since Ukraine was created by the "USSR" as a country in the 1950s, however there are a lot of scripts that show anti-soviet and Nazi favoritism before and during WW2. The USA just thought they can buy a place on Russia's borders, which is in TOTAL violation of the NATO mandate! The Ne0-Nazis in the country went to war against their own people, this will not fly!!! There will be no repeating the 1940s !!! The US just got greedy! Meddling in this is DANGEROUS, as Ukrainians are considered mostly Slavs, and messing with the Slavs ends in war! ....ask the Balkans for cues....and read history longer than the USA has existed!

"i see Russia as an Oligarchy" lets examine that. arms corporations? 51% of the shares owned by the Russian state. natural resource extraction and refinement companies? 51% shares owned by the Russian state. every Russian company large enough to have the financial means to buy influence with the state, is majority owned by the state. which means there is no influence to buy regardless of the amount of wealth available. in an Oligarchy the company would use money to buy influence with the state. that cant happen if the state owns 51% of the company. first thing Putin did when he became president was destroy the Oligarchy that existed. and forced them to sell 51% of their companies to the state so that an Oligarchy could not happen again. meanwhile in the USA its perfectly legal for large corporations to "lobby" politicians with money. if you want an example of an Oligarchy then look no further then the politicians that lied about Iraqi WMD's so that the Arms corporations of America could sell bombs, missiles and ammo to bomb Baghdad with, after which the concrete companies of America secured the concrete contracts to rebuild said city with.

Lodewjik Vrije ------------------ arms corporations? 51% ------------------------------------------ Aahhh that explains it, they get a much better bang for their Rubels when it comes to have the best army in the world. We spend more than 750 Billion, they manage with just $ 59 Billion. Is that because our industries have to grease too many Congress and senate politicians ?

These presenters did not tell you that the Crimean Peninsula became Russian under Empress Catherine the Great when the Turks lost the war with us. And in Soviet times, in the mid-50s, Khrushchev gave it to the Ukrainian Republic, which was part of the USSR. Since Crimea was an autonomous region, they could hold a referendum and held it. They decided to stay in Russia, but they turned a blind eye to it and he stayed in Ukraine. Russian Russian language was banned and Russian schools were closed when the coup took place in 2014. People decided to hold a referendum and return to Russia. And Russian troops stood there all their lives, as soon as the Turks lost the war. You have propaganda there that we have occupied Crimea. Read the story about it, not all the crap on TV.

There are many alcoholics among the American people. It stems from a laws that restrict access to people under 21. Most grow out of the habit, but many still do not. Something about finding excitement in doing what's not allowed.
@anafogler2276
@anafogler2276 3 жыл бұрын
@@Wearywastrel I don’t think that’s the reason. Many of the people in USA try to fill the emptiness in their souls/hearts with something that makes them happy and excited. Since they don’t change (or sometimes it’s beyond their abilities) their minds or environment, the need to feel happy comes back. So, they get back to alcohol. However, in comparison with Russians their alcohol tolerance is much lower.

I would say that 'russian women dressing up just to go to a grocery shopping' is a bit of exaggeration of course, it's more like that After the soviet years people were eager to finally wear something different from our usual plain and humble clothes and it went very sporadic/chaotic at first as everything was new and no one really knew what was okay and what was not to wear (and where!) in that new world (so some looks were WILD in that time XD you saw them among memes probably). Now it's overall all calm and moderate in clothing tendencies here, just as anywhere else, but certain taste for dressing up still stayed with us 'cause it feels good xD (no such things as go outside in your pajamas like wtf???why??) And it's both about men and women I think actually √•~•√ Men coming to Russia tend to notice it about russian women, but women coming to Russia note it about russian men and theirs fancy jackets/nice shoes/good hair etc.
