Breaker bar is probably one of the most useful tools if you are trying to get a stubborn bolt loose.
@gorak9000
@gorak9000 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the breaker bar is pretty good. I'm pretty sure I got it back when it used to go on sale for $10. Have to be careful though, if you're getting out "the big bar", then you're also into bolt snapping territory. Sometimes it's better to reach for the impact and hammer it out with many small blows, rather than twisting the bolt off with the large breaker bar. Also, was in there recently looking for one of those $20 random orbital palm sanders, and was super disappointed that they're now "Bauer" and $40 (I needed it right then, couldn't wait for it to go on sale). Then I stopped at Walmart on the way home, and they had basically the same random orbital palm sander for $20, regular price, no BS waiting for it to go on sale! The Bauer took a hike back to the HF next time I was in there.

I bought mine also maybe 10+ years ago, expecting to abuse it and break it, but nope, hasn't died yet and has broken loose so many bolts on my car projects... Lots of great tools for under $20 here, learned about something I never knew about, so ordering some now!

The first tool that popped into my head at that price was the Bauer 20v cordless glue gun. I've gotten more use out of that over the past year than _any_ of my other tools. Plugged up holes in barn roofs, leaks in tennis shoes, attached soles to other shoes, repaired the pump for a bathroom soft soap dispenser, did repairs on old Rock Band game controllers.... =)

People with a brain, that are not cheap and don't want to work excessively hard on a hard task do it this way. 3/4 is always a better bar and can handle a metric shit ton of force and a cheater bar without taking damage or getting to the "iffy" range of it bending so bad it "might" break. 👍 Buy once, cry once.

Some of these big channels say this is only $200 or this is only $80 but some weeks if I need a tool and money is tight that $16 is tough enough.

The Heat gun, t handles, digital calipers are good for 3d printed projects and would likely be a welcomed gift for someone in your life that is starting out in 3d printing. The self adjusting wire stripper is a good tool. The quin and the orange handle ones are both good and both lifetime warranty. Also I have used the 25inch breaker bar for about 2 years in the shop it's still hanging in. I even used it to remove some cylinder head bolts.

That extendable ratchet I've had for 5 years and have done some stupid stuff to it and it's still perfect. Highly recommend it. $10 heat gun will burn up on you.... I've had 3 Sae/metric T handle hexkit it is good... haven't stripped them, they fit fasteners good and the ball end is handy... plus the stand organizer is nice. I'd buy it again. Clamps are JUNK! I've broken so many of them. I'm done. I stick with name brand now and haven't even broken one. Bremen locking pliers is skip and put in another $2-3 for Milwaukee or Irwins. 4lb engineer hammer is a must have if you do any automotive or construction work. Digital calipers are good for what they are... not machine shop grade but will get the job done when 3d printing, automotive or construction tasks. I have 3 different versions. Pen light is useless and the LED color is varied between lights. It's worth $5 ... not $20. 8 inch Quinn self adjusting $20..... just spend $22.99 and GET THE IRWIN! Trust me!! Doyle pliers are good but don't talk about them like they are knipex or some high end. I've found the ends of the Doyle stuff to be not lined up... either cooked or teeth peaks hitting peaks instead if valleys. Just be aware of what you're buying and don't expect it to be something is not. 1/2 breaker is good.... but you'd be better off with a 36 inch 3/4 with a 1/2 reducer.... but the 1/2 will take a cheater bar and a pretty decent flex before you get to "sketchy" territory.

@@MrTheHillfolk For the sub $20 items it's maybe $5-$15 cheaper for a majority of items I'm looking for (basic automotive kit from scratch). I think it's the amount of selection + review feedback is what makes HF stand out over PA. Higher sales tax % here is also a factor (13% for Ontario). Very interested in the digital torque adapters - they're basically twice the price in converted currency. And these continual 20% off sales around holidays is icing on the cake - but I'm limited to when I'm travelling across the border. Stuff is just generally more expensive up here as our economy is smaller. Canada's population is equal to that of California only!

Totally agree about the Doyle line. I am very impressed w the Doyle wire clipper and wire stripper. Maybe I've just been using real basic Craftsman/Kobalt/nameless stuff that is a little dull, but man, these things are sharp, feel good in the hand, and cutting wire and stripping insulation for electrical insulation is almost effortless in comparison using the Doyles. I will likely get the needle nose soon, but the problem is it spoils me and I feel the difference when using my other tools.

It's junk compared to a real grinder. It bogs down super easy and gets stupid hot really fast if you're working it at its bog point. It's about only good enough for a quick nip, fast sand or grind here and there. It's actually annoying to even try and sharpen a mower blade with it. I've had 4 of them and I'm glad they are all toast and now I own real ones that perform. When you've used both side by side you'd know 100% what I'm talking about when I say it's trash. I'd rather put that$10 toward a real tool. But Austin.... if you only grab a grinder once or twice a year maybe it's OK if you don't mind fighting through the task. But if your using a grinder any more often than that then go buy the $90ish dewalt from lowes or something better than a $10 HF smoke machine.

A SMALL addition would make this bench much more rigid. I added some aluminum gusset brackets at a few locations and it made the bench very solid. I can't tell how good it is fortunately because since I started carrying it I haven't had any tires blow out on the road. I strongly disagree with the statement about skipping sizes. I hate that. I live 30 miles away from the closest hardware store. Just a couple months ago I needed a midget wrench to get a tractor running. Sure enough my set skipped the size I needed. That extendable rachet is actually my go-to rachet. I've had mine for years and it's been the bees knees, especially since I got it on sale for all of $12.

Thank you for a wonderful presentation, I have no idea why HF has left the most popular wrench size of 15mm out of these sets (kids bikes use 15mm). But still nice. The blue clamps are very wonderful. I picked up several of them for a project because my other clamps from HF failed. Very very nice, While not a pipe clamp they are wonderful for glue ups.

15 mm ~ 9/16”. So you can use 9/16 in a pinch. But it doesn’t work the other way round. That’s what I think anyway. Like wise a 5/8 ~16mm. But 16mm is actually 0.005 larger than 5/8. So I don’t know if there’s enough tolerance that 5/8 can substitute for 16mm.

Watch out for HF digital calipers. They suck the battery then it leaks and wrecks the caliper. Turns out that moving the caliper at all turns it on. Always store with battery removed, put the battery in only when you use it. This is true for both of mine.

There are technical reasons all of the knockoff calipers suck batteries. A genuine Mitoyo caliper will not.

The calipers aren't "vampires". When you put the calipers back in the case, the padding gently presses the power button. I was able to fix the battery drain by removing the case padding just above the power button. No more dead batteries.

@@wjpreslara bump, jostle or slight movement will turn them on. Thus I always remove the battery.

Craftsman has ball end hex key metric and sae for 20$ they’re the best I’ve used. Not t handle but it comes with a handle that you can slide each hex keys into it to use as a t handle. Really good fit into fasteners compared to my harbor freight set. For 1/4” impact hex keys Milwaukee has been my go to for the fit into fasteners as well.

Can't believe they're not carrying any of those DCK tools you were talking about in the last video. Competition must be stiff... Some goodies at HF like that pen light and angle grinder (already have the drill master version which is great for under $15). Thanks for posting Jeff!

15mm and 16mm are fairly common drain plug sizes. It's too bad they skipped those. And the 18mm is the size for the transfer case check plug on the GM Silverados. Another miss. Personally, I really like Quantum AAA penlight, usually around $6.99 and they include batteries. They are only about 68 lumens but they work good. I use them all the time when I'm servicing vehicles. And the lower power is just fine for looking at only what you want to look at. 100% agreed. I buy one of these almost everytime I go to Harbor Freight. Walmart has a similar penlight and it's around 100 lumens but it doesn't seem to throw as focused a light as the Quantum does. It's more of a flood light, and the Quantum is more of a spot light. I keep the Walmart light handy as my backup because my tool pouch doesn't hold the Quantum as nicely as the Walmart light, it's more slender than the Quantum, so I keep the Quantum in my shirt pocket with my pens. I go to the Walmart light when I forget my Quantum or the batteries die.

Caution with the extension double ratchet, when extended, I snapped the 1/4 inch part right off! Too much leverage for the small part. They replaced it no questions asked.

I had a pair of Harbor Freight dial calipers for years. Then I dropped them. Now I have a scribe tool. So yeah, just don't drop them and they work fine. Cheap digital calipers eat batteries. With what you're going to shell out in batteries you might as well get Mitutoyos. Because eventually you're going to end up paying more for the cheapies in the batteries. You can pop out the batteries when you're not using them but that's a pain to do.
