Ep. 4 - My Free Sailboat: Coronado 25 Re-fit- Replacing The Anchor Chain and Line

It's part of your safety equipment so don't overlook the impirtance of all parts of your anchor. My friend and I head out on a windless sail day on Lake Mead so we did a job on the list which was to replace the chain and line on my Danforth anchor. I don't have a cradle yet so for now it will live in my lazerette.

You should have put a shackle on the anchor also or put lock -tight on those threads and tighten with a wrench real good! You can always anchor in front of the dam! I'm sure if it reaches the bottom it will hold! Ha Ha!

Yes upon further reflection I am indeed going to put a swivel shackle between the line amd chain. Lock tight! Check! And yes hand tightening is not enough! I should have indicated that! Edit coming soon! BTW the depth behind the Dam is the deepest in the area! Over 300 feet!! But Boulder Beach or Castle Cove or Swallow Cove...perfect.

Just think of the ballast you would have with 600 feet of chain!

Wouldn't you need 100' of chain and 2000' of rode to anchor in 300' of water? (Just a ballpark number)

I would never anchor in the 300 feet on Lake Mead!! Nice and close to Boulder Beach or in Rufus Cove would be more suited to having to only put out enough rode safe enough for a good hook and not so long that in the night when the wind shifts the boat isn't thrown on the Cove rock face! That's why I do prefer docking up on the "poop docks". Chekout those videos!
