Political donations shouldn't be proportional to how many states the party has government in or how many public representatives they have elected. By that logic, the biggest party would continue to to receive the largest sums of donations, which would result in them investing more in advertising and propaganda, which in turn, would result in more victories for them. This would become an eternally repeated cycle, and by the end of it, only one ruling party would remain and all others would stop existing. Reality is that businesses only donate that big sums of money to parties, they think would benefit them, either they believe in their economic vision which would benefit them, or they seek direct favours. There is also strong and irrefutable evidence about extortion and quid pro quo. It's a two way transactional relationship, not charity. Businesses don't spend a penny unless return is guaranteed.
