There was an instance in the US shark tank, where one guy pitched for a smart doorbell. Most of them were not interested and whoever was asking for higher equity. Some were made fun of as well. After that show, Richard Branson funded that company and Amazon bought the company. The company is called Ring. A few seasons later the person who got rejected became one of the sharks in that show. The gist is, never lose faith. Those sharks are not only your 'mai-baap'. There are other fishes in the tank as well.

In the US version of the show, every judge (Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Kevin O'Leary) is running businesses that actually turn a profit instead of riding on VC money or drowning in huge losses. So I decided to delve deeper into the businesses of each shark starting from Season 1. Vineeta Singh's SUGAR Cosmetics reported a loss of INR 75 Cr in FY22 up from INR 21.1 Cr in the fiscal year FY21. Ghazal Alagh's Mamaearth for the first time since inception had posted a profit for FY22 at INR 14.44 Cr after suffering losses of Rs. 1,332 crore in FY21 and ₹428 crore in FY20. Also the company has reported a 4 crore net profit approx. for the first half of FY23. So the company has just lately begun turning profitable. Also a recent Mint news report states that they are going for an IPO at a valuation figure of INR 24000 Cr. 24000 Crore when the profits are just 14 crore !!!!!! 😱 BharatPe's total loss stood at Rs 5,594 crores in FY 2022. In FY 2021, the company had recorded a total loss of Rs 2,961 crore. Ashneer Grover was removed in 2022 from the company so these losses will be also under his leadership since he was also at the helm in FY22. Anupam Mittal is the owner of brands like Shaadi. com, Makaan .com, Mauj Mobile. Except for Shaadi, it seems his other brands are either dead or not making enough money, as there is minimal or no news about those in the media. Even Shaadi's financials are NOT known in public except for one recent report about its future IPO that may or may not arrive since one such attempt was also made in 2009. Peyush Bansal's Lenskart posted a consolidated loss of INR 102.3 Cr in FY22. Enough said! Namita Thapar is NOT the founder of her company Emcure Pharma. It's her father who started it and still is its CEO. So, to some, her credentials may seem similar to that of Ananya Pandey in Bollywood?? (Did somebody hear nepotism!! 🙄) Amit Jain's CarDekho posted losses of ₹246.5 crores in the financial year 2021-22. Aman Gupta's Boat is the only company that has been profitable since its inception.

Why did he want a deal only from Aman? Ashneer gave him a better offer but he still wanted Aman. Why couldn't he just say no to Aman when he was asked to sell his entire company for just 1 Cr? Yes Aman was trying to intimidate him by saying "Hum yaha ke gunde hai". But I think this guy should have said no to Aman & taken Ashneer's offer in a heartbeat. Anupam was interested in the beginning but he backed off because the pitcher wanted to shut down audio business for electric toothbrush. Hammer guy was there to get an offer from Aman. Aman saw an opportunity to swallow that guy up.

Bro indeed. I remember one episode of shark tank season 2 where this guy who had a cheesecake business came to pitch his business. His business was legit making profit, bootstrapped and he had no debt whatsoever. And he could not bag a deal becoz the equity they asked from him was too much. Even a non business guy like me could understand that the deal they were giving out to him was so subpar. Props to that guy he denied it and walked away.

At first i thought the shark tank show was mainly for start-ups and new entrepreneurs with creative ideas, to help them grow but after watching one or two episodes i observed their main focus is on profits. They invest mostly on those deals where they see more profit or have some strong background or have successful associates.😃😃

Generally, people do not have any idea that so many business enterpreneurs exist in the country even in small towns. There was an article from ABP live updated on 17jan 2023 where they have similarly talked about this. Somewhere I feel profit and losses are part of businesses, most important thing is that this show is giving boost to entrepreneurship sector as well as giving financial literacy to homemakers, budding minds and those who are ignorant about financial knowledge. Entertainment is just not about fights, argument or sarcasm rather middle class audiences are being entertained through innovative ideas 💡, technical, environment awareness which the contestants are bringing along with their enterprise.

Absolutely true, your last two advices for Sony TV was so so practical. But I don't think Sony TV will pay heed to you. But you have rightly pointed out the flaws of Shark Tank. It is actually becoming a soap opera or just another entertainment program of Sony TV. If Shark Tank aims to become a program which will actually bring something good for the young entrepreneurs from various social and economic background of India then they must implement your last two most valuable advices. Amazing perspective. Had to agree with you. For viewers, this should be a good entertainment show and not a temple that you have to worship them. And for the founders , not to get discouraged. Mere words by others can’t tell the course of your business. Predicting what the market will want in future is next to impossible so no one, not even the sharks can correctly say with conviction that your business won’t work. If you were an investor, you would be careful about where you put your money and how much you put. It's very normal if the sharks are also doing it. Also, lot of contestants go to shark tank for mentorship and not only for money and that's why they cannot have VC directly in the show. Declaring loss is a trick to escape tax. So, we don't know what's really behind their losses. I don't see anything wrong in the show apart from Nameeta and video clips about contestants' private life in season 2.

In the US version of the show, every judge (Barbara Corcoran, Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, and Kevin O'Leary) is running businesses that actually turn a profit instead of riding on VC money or drowning in huge losses. So I decided to delve deeper into the businesses of each shark starting from Season 1. Vineeta Singh's SUGAR Cosmetics reported a loss of INR 75 Cr in FY22 up from INR 21.1 Cr in the fiscal year FY21. Ghazal Alagh's Mamaearth for the first time since inception had posted a profit for FY22 at INR 14.44 Cr after suffering losses of Rs. 1,332 crore in FY21 and ₹428 crore in FY20. Also the company has reported a 4 crore net profit approx. for the first half of FY23. So the company has just lately begun turning profitable. Also a recent Mint news report states that they are going for an IPO at a valuation figure of INR 24000 Cr. 24000 Crore when the profits are just 14 crore !!!!!! 😱 BharatPe's total loss stood at Rs 5,594 crores in FY 2022. In FY 2021, the company had recorded a total loss of Rs 2,961 crore. Ashneer Grover was removed in 2022 from the company so these losses will be also under his leadership since he was also at the helm in FY22. Anupam Mittal is the owner of brands like Shaadi. com, Makaan .com, Mauj Mobile. Except for Shaadi, it seems his other brands are either dead or not making enough money, as there is minimal or no news about those in the media. Even Shaadi's financials are NOT known in public except for one recent report about its future IPO that may or may not arrive since one such attempt was also made in 2009. Peyush Bansal's Lenskart posted a consolidated loss of INR 102.3 Cr in FY22. Enough said! Namita Thapar is NOT the founder of her company Emcure Pharma. It's her father who started it and still is its CEO. So, to some, her credentials may seem similar to that of Ananya Pandey in Bollywood?? (Did somebody hear nepotism!! 🙄) Amit Jain's CarDekho posted losses of ₹246.5 crores in the financial year 2021-22. Aman Gupta's Boat is the only company that has been profitable since its inception.
