Winter Architecture was approached to design a renovation and extension to a two-bedroom Victorian home. Now providing four bedrooms and two bathrooms, the minimalist interior is filled with light from the courtyards, soft oak flooring and clean, crisp lines.

I am a hardcore minimalist and I have to say that the designers nailed this one. I loved how there are very few ‘things’ but rather gorgeous and luxurious textures everywhere. The stair rail, the upholstery, even her jumper. Amazing.

I gotta say kudos to the interior designer. Minimalism is so hard to do right. I see so many clever touches. The shade of white is just right, with a cozy velvety texture. Some surfaces are brought to life with pastel greys and mint greens. The black furniture provides much needed contrast.

Just awesome concept. I totally agree w. the philosophy of not having all spaces designated for the traditional idea of occupancy. We live in a tiny old Victorian style house that we had filled w. period antiques- lots of very beautiful pieces that after 7 years just felt like suffocating clutter. As of today we have no couch or upholstered velvet chairs. We do have a bit of cash from selling those, and a nice spare living area.

It’s really beautiful. Especially all the outdoor space and the edges and the light coming with it. Sometimes it’s definitely good to reduce some indoor space to get this very unique character and almost playful area. What I (as a European...we kind of only use integrated fridges- at least before an unnecessary wave of US-American “style” invaded Germany/ Europe) will never understand: why don’t u use an integrated fridge? It’s SO MUCH calmer and cleaner..! ;-).

I’m also European and I know a lot of people who don’t have integrated fridges, myself included. They are more expensive and the selection is more limited. But in such a project the price increase for a neat integrated fridge would have been minimal so I agree it would have been absolutely worth it! What I really don’t understand though is why they didn’t at least choose a white fridge since everything else is white?!
@Halbmond
@Halbmond 3 жыл бұрын
However, pretty much everyone I know has an (at least partly) integrated dishwasher! The price increase is absolutely negligible. I think it’s unfortunate but somewhat understandable they didn’t choose an integrated fridge but it’s completely beyond me how anyone could have thought that ugly generic dishwasher there was a good idea. Everything else is so neat and minimalist!
@MissTeaAddict
@MissTeaAddict 6 ай бұрын
They did mention that this property is a rental and in Australia, it's expected that you bring your own fridge with you (along with microwaves and washing machines). Most other kitchen appliances are included (e.g. stoves). But some rental properties won't provide a dishwasher, I guess because you could install a washing machine in that space if there isn't a laundry space.

The title of this video is very clever. Minimalism doesn't always own less stuff, i mean u can still enjoy buying things. I got tired by colors in my surroundings, the noise and the clutters by other people, that's why i choose to own less stuff and surround myself with earth tone colors. The level of minimalism is vary depending on yourself.

On one hand, this is a brilliant interior. the courtyard is brilliant. The space looks amazingly usable. I can find no issue with it. I even think the point about having un-used space is really wonderful. On the other, despite it's brilliance, walking in from that wonderful facade into that completely modern interior, I couldn't help but have my heart hurt a little bit.

1:49 the designer claims that the kitchen is so beautiful despite using standard stuff, yet the video tries to hide the ugly non-integrated dishwasher there and only shows the fridge for very brief periods of time as well. Seems like someone doesn’t really share her opinion ... And what exactly would have been non-standard about an integrated dishwasher? Of course, they’re standardized! IMO it’s such a pity they didn’t integrate everything because the kitchen looks quite nice otherwise and gets by without super-expensive materials.

Well, of course it's beautiful now, but please show me this home after few month of some family living there. Especially children, they'll go crazy in such ascetic(boring really) spaces. I don't really understand, why designers can't use colour? Everything white/beige/grey, and of course - sterile white kitchen that will empower every greasy small spot after cooking into devastating interruption. Hopefully future inhabitants will fill this neutrality with some emotions.

So true. I don't understand why Australia has this obsession with clinicalising and 'gentrifying' old places without keeping any remnants of the buildings history like they do in the US incorporating old and new thoughtfully. It's criminal facadism and shows a lack of creativity and the clinical cosmetic surgery clinic look will be dated in fifteen years. If you want a new house, live in one, if you don't like old houses, don't completely destroy them for those who do or want to renovate and modernise sympathetically. To say its good is cap.

I see it differently. When that house was built it was the latest fashion and most likely furnished as such. Living in my own era with current conveniences is better than going back 150 yr. or so. The facade had to stay- that's enough history for me.
