shotguns can be used offensively or defensively: offensively is closing the distance yourself (like sliding in) and defensively is playing reactively like when they close distance and you swap to your shotty real quick. slugs are really good offensively because of their crazy range and consistency but very bad defensively. and pellets (mainly precision frames) are good at both but much better than slugs defensively. if youre having trouble with slugs in general it might be because you play more defensive than offensive with them, so id recommend sliding at people more to build confidence and awareness. but if its just specifically the chaperone you dont like id recommend trying duality (shotgun not dungeon) because its a hybrid of the 2 and feels great and easier to use

Li can relate so much to what you said. I get so salty when I get headshot with a aggressive or rapid fire shotgun from a mile away, and when I check the rolls they have some random one with 5-10 kills.

the archetype does play a major role, as each has a different spread, ignoring slugs, rapid fire shoots in a square pattern, lightweight I think in a diamond or a square standing on a corner, aggressive fires something like a octagon, or stop sign, But hands down, the best for PvP is precision frames as they fire in a standing oval, without going into perks, some of the worst precision shottys will stand toe to toe with better ones of another archtype simply because of the spread pattern.
