3:50 always worth noting, is 5m is often the length limit between paying 'car' rates & paying 'van' rates for ferries in many places. For instance Western Ferries in Scotland (Calmac the limit is 6m)

I like the outside look of the T 6.1 with Leightons vans front splitter. I only wish they continues with the T6.0 car-like comfort dashboard, along with the foot rest. I was very lucky to have managed to obtain in March a brand new highest spec'd T6.0 Highline with a Kenwood upgrade.

So… at the end of a 30yr career… next week is when I will be buying my van for full-time Vanlife… I have been looking at Vans in general for about 5 years but in earnest after a change in domestic circumstances for about the last year. If you really are at a point where you feel the need to hack your partners passwords it’s time to move on, it is very sad that you feel the need to either not trust them or want that control over them, maybe a maturity or morality pill will save your controlling possessive nature, but nothing will stop your green eyed monsters living inside. I want an auto gearbox and something with good power - enough to make it pleasurable to drive! Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

When you talk about known faults like the DMF I think I must have got a good'un (no problems)> But you don't mention the 5th gear failure which the company that rebuilt my gearbox were very casual about being a regular problem. Love my 200k+ T5 to the extent that I just took the plunge into Lithium leisure battery territory, Had to fit Victron DC-DC as the split charger isn't up to it and it seemed weird spending £800 on a 12 year old van, but as you say they hold their value (especially given the demand during covid) and I reckon even though it can be a money pit, if you stick to the practical not the bling it'll still pay you back in the end. And as you mentioned, I've got mates with transits who have had worse problems with a van that's relatively worthless after 10 years. Caveat Emptor.

Mate really helpful video. I need a bigger van. Kid, dogs, lawnmowers strimmers spades etc. Got fed up with waiting hate modern bulkheads. Got loan and put deposit down on vw. Got cold feet now. Its 2021 1.9 t30 45000 miles. Took out bank loan and it comes to £30,000 with vat (not counting interest on loan). Now its time to pay up I'm worried its such alot of money and I'll feel like an idiot down the line. What would you do?

Got 4 kids and twins on the way! So I'm looking at the Transporter Shuttle, long wheel base as the family car. I wanted to know if the middle row of seats can be flipped to face the back row of seats? (Similar to how it's possible with Mercedes V Series 8 seaters). Great vid, I subscribed and liked, thanks!

Unfortunately not, they are all front facing. The Caravelle however does have the middle 2 seats that turn around but that is a 7 seater in a 2 2 3 formation.

My personal recommendation if anyone is buying a T6.1 new, get the LED headlights. The halogen lights are awful. If I knew they were as bad as they are, I'd opted for the LED headlights.

Just recently bought a Fiat Talento lwb 170 bhp diesel combi onyx edition, much more van, for much less money and in my opinion looks nicer as well. OK for sensible people who are not badge snobs.

Agree, but the I'd argue about the sensible bit, if you bought a T6 3 years ago and added 20k miles on it you would make money selling it. Your fiat will be half the price in 3 years. There are not many vehicles you can make money on, and with a transporter it's possible but at the very worst the depreciation will be minimal. To me that's a sensible vehicle choice for people that think about the future rather than just the now.

I prefer auto personally but it's a personal preference, if it was a drivers car I would want a manual but with these vans it's nice to have the extra mod cons for daily use

Look underneath to see if the rear wheels have drive. Check the log look/registration with the initial build spec from vw Launch it in gravel up hill and see if the rear wheels start to grip

Awesome content mate! I'm in Australia & wanted your thoughts, I'm looking at a Multi T5 Highline 2010 twin turbo tomorrow, the seller had the turbos replacements 10,000Kms ago, ($8K later) but now is having smoke & limp mode comes up from time to time. Seller said it's likely the dpf, however he got that cleaned & serviced a few weeks ago, worked fine for 2 weeks & same issue again - stated it will most likely need to be replaced as what the mechs said. The price is very good, well below others & has done 160K, your thoughts on the issue? Any help would be amazing! Thanks Adam

smoke and limp mode can be EGR or DPF related, would be impossible to confirm without diagnostics though. Maybe worth buying a code reader and checking it out.

It's a tough call as I'm wondering if more issues ahead with the twin turbo version? Bu the price is about $8-9K lower than the usual listing price for a Mulitvan. Thanks

It's not ideal but not a problem either. Some people make the second door a type of service door so you can access water tanks, and stuff without going into the van

@@dannymacarthur13 a lot of people get sensitive over that video but every issue I raise is valid. That being said transporters are still great vans and you shouldn't be deterred from buying one, just know what to look for is a good thing 💪

Shit, there are so many and they are all white. This is Transporter shopping! I like your video about what to look for. Many years ago I was a mechanic. I have just finished another lockdown motorcycle restoration. However, watch our video eventually when I go to view a van, I will be making a"crib list" of all the things I must check. I would just say go for the optional extras that you want and don't be put off by year or milage as long as it's been well maintained

I’m a moderator on the vwT5 forum. Great video mate. The most sought after van is a 150ps model as comes with a 6 speed box. Some lower models like the 85 and 102ps only have a 5 speed box. The newer 7 speed DSG box is fantastic and comes mated with the 204ps (199 bhp) .
