Forgot to explain this one. Basically I was planning on starting a new channel for pokemon game videos, but my team convinced me to just upload them on this channel since its still pokemon. So we will have card game and game game videos from now on. Though I will be going through the gens in sequence. So the videos will only be about gen 1 until we go through all the ideas we have on our list. Then we'll take what we learned and start gen 2 videos, and so on and so on.

If you're going to do a whole series on the RPGs starting with RBY, I'd advise having a video about all the abnormalities and bugs which come to define competitive Gen 1. Ranging from the minor like the 1/256 glitch (where even 100% accurate attacks can rarely miss due to a programming error), to more egregious ones like Speed-based critical hit rate, Special Attack and Defense being one stat, or Psychic effectively having no weaknesses. Even the weird ones like why Dragonite has no STAB, or why Dig and Fly are banned. Gen 1 is a VERY different beast compared to later generations, and would help catch people up to why Gen 1 is so... Gen 1.

@juliansantana187715 күн бұрын
Kingler in the context of gen 1 has a weak crabhammer because of its 50 special, both body slam and hyperbeam are physical in gen 1 so that's why they do damage, and the starmie thing is incorrect, crab hammer and surf have relative power, starmie would do more damage because it has double the special

It's funny how Gyarados was kind of mediocre for the first three generations, but then the Physical/Special split happened in Gen 4, and Gyarados became a monster. While a lot of these Pokemon still aren't great, Dewgong is probably the only one that has stayed utterly awful. Everybody else got something of note, but Dewgong has always been a Pokemon that has several dozens others do what it poorly attempts to do ten times better.
@SuperWiggler16 күн бұрын
@melvinshine9841 Gyarados has 100 special in Gen 1, that is not in any way "mediocre".
@holowisewolf168815 күн бұрын
Dewgong's biggest problem in Gen 1 is when it comes. You could make an argument that stab ice beam/blizzard makes it better than Blastoise, but it just comes so late, and you get a free Lapras before that. Gyarados is also just cracked I'm Gen 1. It destroys every gym and elite 4 except for Surge, amd the 4x electric weakness is laughable when there are only, what, 3? 4? Electric attacks you'll ever see after evolving it.
@robertlupa827314 күн бұрын
In Gen 1, Gyarados was a powerful mixed attacker thanks to the combined Special stat, though it didn't have any physical STAB. Still, with how broken Hyper Beam was and how strong Body Slam was, it didn't really need any. In Gen 3, Gyarados was mostly held back in-game by its horrible movepool. The moment it gets Dragon Dance + Earthquake (or any reliable move, like Strength), it dominates. Having Intimidate definitely helps. By comparison, Gen 2 Gyarados has neither high Special nor Dragon Dance/Intimidate. It's definitely the lowest point for the angry serpent. Still, it's a difference between "S tier" and "A tier", so it's still good.

Second place Smogon Nintendo Cup 97 tournament winner here. Most of the video I thought was fair enough 👍 given that you seem to be making your decisions based on single playsr and multi-player performance amongst different tiers. But there are a few things I disagree with particularly in Nintendo Cup context, and I'd like to mention them since you might find them interesting. Starting with your number 1 choice. Seaking, as funny as it is, is much much better than 50% of this list in NC because it's allowed to use Agility plus Horndrill, and Blizzard has a 30% chance to freeze, so it can basically sweep any team if it rolls favorably which makes it terrifying to play against.
@terraSpark90213 күн бұрын
Another pokemon thats a lot stronger in NC is Poliwrath. You called it a worse Golduck and I ultimately think nobody would agree with that in any gen 1 format, Sleep is more than enough to make it stronger, Submission gives it a niche in OU.. But anyway, in NC Poliwrath is straight up a B tier pokemon overall because it's a pretty good stall breaker capable of 2HKOing Jynx, Lapras, Exeggutor, lv55 Tauros, and Jolteon all at once while having a sleep move on top of it, and excellent bulk to use Doubleteam and Rest effectively. You do have to pick and choose what moves you're using on the set carefully, it can't do everything at once. Side note, 70 special is not bad at all in gen 1, Tauros has 70 special and it's completely fine for any pokemon clicking Blizzard.
@terraSpark90213 күн бұрын
I was surprised to see Kingler here tbh, since it has a strong OU niche (although it's fallen off over time) but unfortunately I actually agree it should be high on this list because in NC it's probably the worst it ever has been, and can't really accomplish any niche at all unfortunately.. Something that may be shocking however is the fact that Cloyster is barely better than Dewgong in NC (it's a lot better but there isn't really much in-between them on a viability ranking) and Cloyster itself is almost never used because Lapras and Articuno are actually objectively in the top 3 to 5 best pokemon in the game.
@terraSpark90213 күн бұрын
The final thing I'll mention is in purely Nintendo Cup 97 context, Vaporeon would be right there near the top (worst) with it's mono water type brothers. It's about on the same level as Omastar, and Omastar is awful in NC, neither of them have any true niche of their own, but Omastar gets Horndrill and at least a Hyperbeam resistance, while Vaporeon gets Haze. Pick whichever you think is better, but trust me, both of them aren't going to accomplish much of anything.

Eh... some of the competitive stuff on here is a bit iffy. 10) No one really uses Electrode or Nidoking, but Thunderbolts and Rock Slides do hurt it. The rock weakness is why it's not so good a ground type check since Rhydon can hit you with rock STAB anyways. 9) Moltres and Dragonite? I mean yeah, it counters them (ignoring wrap hax) but lots of the tier has good match ups against those two. Omastar is more for checking 2 of the big 3, Tauros and Snorlax, as long as they don't have Earthquake or are Amnesia Blizzard Snorlax. Also Tentacruel? In a tier dominated by strong Earthquakes and Psychics? Plus the water weakness isn't realy as bad when you gain a resistance to normal and ice, some of the best offensive types in RBY. 8) Dewgong is still 2HKOd from those attacks. Probably more nitpicking on my end, but yeah, others do its job much better as you said. 7) Not really anything off I know from the competitive scene. In game, I think you undersell it though. 6) Everything alright here. 5) Kabutops is not meant to check flying/fire types. It is a swords dancer that beats Rhydon with Surf. It still would want a rock type move, but part of that is to hit Gengar which walls you otherwise. It's not really good though as it's slower than or unable to OHKO a lot of pokemon which threaten it back with Thunderbolt. Also Rock/Water is good because of how it checks Normal and Ice types. Fire isn't that good in RBY because of all the water types and all but one of its moves can thaw freeze which otherwise stays the entirety of the match, plus Burn on some pokemon is the best status you can get because it means you can't be slowed with Paralysis or rendered useless with Sleep or Freeze. 4) Body Slam and Hyper Beam are good moves in RBY, especially with an attack stat as high as Kingler's, and Crabhammer basically always crits, so the low Special isn't nearly as bad as you would think. It's just really badly hurt by paralysis, faster special attackers, and anything that can survive a +2 Hyper Beam from it. 3) Mostly alright, though it's more defined by Amnesia over Hypnosis with some OU sets even cutting out Hypnosis altogether. 2-1) Yeah, don't know much on these, but they really don't have much.

I would rather use Lapras because it's pretty tanky. 7. I hope you've hot a flame shield ready. Because I KNOW you're going to get a lot of hate because of this entry. 6. I wonder if it wouldn't be on the list if it was also a Psychic Type. 5. Even in the Gen 3 remakes it only learns AncientPower via level up at LEVEL 65! And the only other Rock attack it can learn is Rock Tomb via TM. 4. What were they thinking when they gave this thing an abysmal special attack. Also doesn't help that it's SO FREAKING SLOW! 3. Yeah if I want a Fighting Type in Gen 1 I'm going use Primeape since I can catch a Mankey on Route 3 in Yellow and Gen 3 remakes. 2. And then they gave it an item trade evolution and Gen 2. OOF! 1.
