I appreciate that Tom gave his honest opinion of the game and that he even mentioned who might like it despite the fact that he didn't. His comments were exactly what I needed to hear to immediately go out and preorder it. With that said, it's really odd to me that anyone would play a dice/roll & write version of a medium-heavy weight euro and not expect it to be a light version of the original. Isn't that exactly what dice/roll & write versions of bigger games hope to be? A lighter version of the original that you can play in cases where the original would be too heavy/big?

Actually, no! I want them to be a good game IN THEIR OWN RIGHT. If they're just a watered down version of the big game, who cares? A good example is Ra: the Dice Game. A VERY different thing from Ra, and fun game!

@@thedicetower Well, I kind of impled that I care. I play games with many levels of gamers (as I'm sure you do). Not all of them can handle the board game version of Rajas of the Ganges. I would love to have a lighter version with a similar feel to play with those groups. Additionally, I can't break the normal game out at a restaurant or somewhere with limited space like I can with a roll & write.

@@thedicetower Ironically, I might need to watch your review on the Ra: the Dice Game. I wrote it off because I wasn't as big a fan of the original as most people and I assumed it would be similar.

Rajas of the Ganges is one of my favorite games - I would definitely get this for traveling.

For me Rajas of the ganges has a special place in my heart because it got me back into the boardgame scene, so if someone wants to play that one ... YESSSS, YOU WERE CALLING? :p But I got this one as an introductory to the game mechanics, because while rajas isn't a difficult game, the board is often overwhelming to non-boardgamers. This can serve as an introductary to some strategies in the game. Next tot that Rajas-Light sounds pretty good for a two-player game :p

Sounds like if this came first Tom would have loved it. And then when the bigger game came out it would replace this one.

Tom, thank you the review. In my opinion, your coverage of this game should be strictly viewed as a comparison with the original board game, not as a comparison to other roll-and-writes. In this pandemic, many of us do not have the luxury to meet and play in person. In this context it should reviewed as its own entity. Yesterday, I played this game over Zoom with my board game group. All of us loved it. I agree that its bonus mechanics are reminiscent of Ganz Schon Clever, but this game felt less dry ( a bit longer to play). Out of the two, we liked it more, and at this time it is the highest ranked game we can play remotely (We regularly play Welcome To, Cartographers, Gun Shon Clever, 30 Rolls, and others). I highly recommend it to people who want to play games remotely or would like to have something close to the original game experience in a small / travel package.

This game really needs to be an app. Ganz Schon Clever is my most played phone game (all three versions), but this would very likely replace it.

I appreciate the honest opinion about how you were 'not looking for Rajas of the Ganges Lite'. Because that's exactly my thought when you introduced the game as a Roll & Write version. I can understand why a lot of designers are jumping on the roll and write trend right now...since it's trending and therefore you can sell more of your work (which I support). But i'm in the same boat as Tom with this, i would just prefer playing the board game (which i love and have the goodie box expansion which is great fun). But if this game draws in a more casual crowd who Then go on to buy the boardgame (and other games by the game designer) then that's awesome for everyone. Being in Australia, it was pretty hard to get my hands on this game (let alone the mini expansion), so if there's more demand for this game then it'll make it easier for local shops to stock it etc. Good on them ay! cheers for the review Tom, i'll pass meself but i'll definitely recommend this to my more casual gamers getting into the hobby (it'll be like a cheeky Trailer for them, before I introduce them to the boardgame - ie. the Feature length film.

I love the walk through and the honest opinion. And then I love reading the comments for other opinions. Thank you for another great video! Now to find the Ra: The Dice Game Video 😊❤️

I have this in my hands right now and I am very much forward to playing it... I really wished it was a mini version of the original game... Sometimes you just dont have the time or the patience to open up a big board game and if this one gives me a smaller taste in a shorter time period, but keeping the spirit of the mother game, it is a winner for me.
@SirBlackjack0103 жыл бұрын
Interesting, did they market it to be different than the original? Because Tom seems to be adamant that it is too similar, but it has the same name (with Dice added), so I'm confused why it should be different when they set out to capture the feeling of the board game.
@Lwilibert3 жыл бұрын
love the original one, everyone wants to play it when we gather.

I think I would prefer this one over the board game. I like the board game, but there is a lot that is going on. If I could simply it down and shorten the time of play then I would pick it up in a heart beat. This seems to be up my alley then.

Just never asked for it. Raja’s is a great game and we are up to here with constant roll and writes coming out as a easy way to get a game out using the original IP. The main board game has cool elements that this doesn’t.
