Dice Cards sounded like it was inspired by Rolling Realms, but seems to have greater variety between the cards because they don't have the shared mechanisms that Rolling Realms has. Though that will also make it easier without that extra "layer".

Really liked the quick recap at the end. Agree that Dice Cards is a fun little game. I don't mind the cover at all. Sure the art isn't Bosley, Sobel, or Davis level, but the cover is bright & colorful. It's a keeper for me.

This reminded me of the stuff I liked in Zooloretto. Scanning the table and thinking "Oh this truck is my truck" (and then being wrong obviously) is a good fun time.

I have seen several games similar to Quibbles. I think it's based on a game that can be played with a standard deck of playing cards. Though the version I'm most familiar with is Safaru, one of the games in Mu & More.

Zooloretto is great. Though without expansions, I prefer Coloretto since it has much the same feel and since it's a small card game, it's super portable.

@@watcherfox9698 Honestly, Coloretto is such a great game. It is one best small box card games out there. The interaction, the table talk and the greed they are so much fun. Although i have never played Zooloretto, from the reviews and explanations I find it hard to see what justifies the bigger box over colorreto, since it seems like the player dilemmas are very similar.

@@PreptiossAble The biggest difference is that there you get coins that can be spent for certain upgrades and such. I've not played zooloretto with expansions, though there are several for it.

Thank you for reviewing the Gerhardts games! They all look so cool, but so abstract, so it's hard to know which ones would be best for me. This really helps 😊😊

Tom is 100% right about the look of Dice Cards. This is a case where the art actively turns me off of even trying the game. The game itself looks pretty fun. Imagine if it had better art!

Around 22:05 Tom says that you can start picking trucks after one of them has three things in it; is this an expansion rule or a difference in the new edition? I just checked Coloretto and old (Finnish edition) Zooloretto and there the only restriction is that you have to pick a set with at least one thing in it.

@@kerim8666 They should all be one position lower (or have a key signature), and the notes in the last bar are the same as the ones in the first two bars but have different numbers: I guess the graphic designer just copied the graphics from the first staff and didn’t bother changing more than the numbers.

Tom has mistaken and missed a few rules in quibbles, which would make a HUGE difference to the game! The most important one being that if you discard a card, you can choose MULTIPLE sets of cards that adds up to that number. Example, if I discard one 6, I can collect 2+4 and 5+1 fours cards from the middle. Another rule Tom missed is that if one player ever run out of cards from hand, all other players have to discard their hand and redraw to 6 cards. These two rules combined makes a massive difference if you are being strategic at this game. You have to consider when to keep bigger number cards for a huge value grab, or when to try to empty your hand to reset your opponents' hands. Another minor rule that tom has mistaken was that there's a maximum of 9 cards that can be in the middle, not 10, but this one is not ad important. If you like cubird fron the same publisher, it gives a very similar feel to it, but still feels different enough. If you likes cubird, I'd highly recommend you to try, online at least. I've played this games a dozens of times on board game arena, and my best ranking was top 3 in the world. I will say that even after all those games, imma still learning a lot. There's much much more strategy involved than Uno FOR SURE. The timing, planing ahead, reading your opponents, when and how to empty your hand and go for a reset. All those take more than just a few game to realise and then master. However, the more I play, the more I realise that luck also plays a huge roll in the game, which I'd like a little less. Overall, I think there's much more to this game than Tom explained. The rules are not complex, make sure to play it the right intended way, which makes the game much more tense. I know it's just a fire round up, and this is just a small little game, but I personally really enjoyed it.

We played both of those rules, but when we film overviews we try to keep them brief enough to give a feel of the game without covering everything.

@@DTChrisYi Definitely, totally understand, just personally feels like there's more to the game than tom thought, plus generally think that the part that tom didn't mention was quite important as well. Just personal opinions after all.

Couldn't I just always pick number 1 in Ensemble and hope that people pick that up and then all puck number 1 and just win the game?
@Rhino1186
@Rhino1186 9 ай бұрын
If you are going to do that, then you might as well just tell everyone which number you are picking. At that point, why are you even playing?
@chofmann
@chofmann 9 ай бұрын
@@Rhino1186 I assume it's forbidden to say that by the rules. And the other example games he mentioned like Dixit don't have this issue. I think it's a pretty big design oversight that this strategy is not only viable but pretty much benefitial.

I disagree. That would be straight up cheating, and against the spirit of the game. Why even play at that point?

That Music card in Dice Cards really makes me angry. The graphics are bad (the first note on the second line is vertically off) and the whole melody is one step too high. Those are things that will annoy any musician (professional or amateur), but there’s more: the 5th and last notes on the second line are simply wrong. Even a non-musician can see the numbers don’t fit with the heights, and that the graphics were simply copied from the bar above and only the numbers changed. For me, Dice Cards might simply be expensive kindling.
